- Released in 1966 on Parlophone, this was The Morloch's 2nd of three 45s. The band was named after "morloch" in H.G. Well's classic, "The Time Machine". The song was written by band members, Noel Neates & Laurie Crooks. Sometimes regarded as the 1st psychedelic record produced in Australia, the song, sadly, did not dent the Top 40.

I once heard Stuart ,the bass player say , " We play what we feel, we never rehearse, despite all rumours" ........ unique band.
I'm middle aged and nowadays I prefer my songs to be 3 minutes or less because they tend to be tighter and less indulgent than baroque overproduced songs. GREAT SONG!
I was 5 in 1966. I wish could turn back time.
1966 is far the greatest year in terms of popular (?) music ! just sayin' 😜
Same here. Born in 61
Amen.
I like this Song
Love the sound of this song! Wish I can go back in time to 1966.
i was there but i'd still like to go back
Save me a seat! Go take a look at the Billboard Top 100 hits for that year. Insane.
I’m about to write a time travel story that lands in 1963-64. Just missed it by two years!
Great tune. Some tunes never grow old.
New to me - brilliant!!! Thanks for uploading this.
Good song! Nice production!
Wow, such a great song. Love the long outro too...
Great track. Remember it well.
Heard the intro and immediately thought 25 or 6 to 4 was gonna play, I need to add some more stuff to my playlist.
The "Morlochs" ('Morlocks') were the creatures who, in the distant future, after the nuclear wars, dwelled underground & fed on the innocent "Eloi" in H.G.Wells' "The Time Machine" (movie 1960 dir. G. Pal) as has been pointed out below by some other commentators.
…..in the year 802,701.
Seriously groovy 😮
Excelent😮!
😊
sounds like almost a prelude to psychedelia.
Игра на сопротивление.
Люблю такие треки.
Classic........
sweet
H.G. Wells......'The Time Machine'....The Morloch....
You are the only one who name here H.G.Wells outstandig SF novel, which was general knowledge before internet times, nowadays I sense only a dessert of mainly dumbest people !
@@Allan-zb7mb The 1960 film is really good, the Eloi / Morlock thing is quite creepy.
@@rojtaggbert8444 -- This band sounds more Eloi than Morlock.
there was an absolute RIPPER of a band in the early '80s called The Morlocks (out of control garage rock)
@@hanskloss1331 I know the Morlocks certainly, they were great too and the Miracle Workers, Chersterfield Kings, Fuzztones , Strollers, Primates.etc..and a lot more. The early Eighties until the early Nineties were the biggest Garage Revival with so many good bands. In my opinion, after the original Sixties, the era between the Mid to Endseventies until the early Eighties were the best years in "Rock music" in the widest sense with all it's subgenres , but every decade has its highlights , nowadays all good music is rather utterly Underground , the mainstream is so terrible today as it was never before !!
Peter Kelaher, hello,
This didn't put a dent in the top 40, but did this record crack the top 100 ? or did it remain underground like the "morlochs" in the movie ?
It's a cool little pop ditty. Kind of like an Aussie surf song.
Thanks !
Thanks for your comments Thomas. Had a close check through the Top 100 from March (release date) to June but it did not appear.
Beautiful
great
Check out another song called Time Machine bi Mick Softley
I think we all wish we had a time machine. 1966 or hell, even 1986 or 96', HERE I COME!
STRAY released a song called TIME MACHINE also inspired by HG WELLS, look it up it is great.
Thanks Michael.
Could well have come out of the joe meek hit machine
Very Spacie.
OK for me save the voice!
Certainly!
I wish I had a time machine..... and a magic carpet!
I have this track on mp3-- this version is running far too fast
Here's the correct speed ruclips.net/video/eak_ayJx2SI/видео.html
Simon, the track was digitised directly from my copy of the 45, speed unaltered. I’ve listened to Kim’s version and it is certainly slower. I’ll take your word that the correct speed is Kim’s version. I’ll also dig mine out and have another listen.
I see Rex Bullens' photo but not his name?
Always happy to give credit. To which photo do you refer?
@@OzMusicArchives - the first Black and Red photo - Rex is second from the right on lead guitar. Rex and Laurie Crooks played in groups in Canberra in the mid/late 1960s. I knew Rex very well - he filled in for us on bass a number of times in 1966!
@@bernhardnizynski4403 I have no record of Rex being a member of The Morloch. I do have a record of Rex being in The Bitter Lemons and of you and your brother (?) Frank being in The Casuals. Here’s a link to Kim Challands’ great site, where he has a brief biography of The Morloch and lists the group members; historyofaussiemusic.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-morloch.html Cheers
@@OzMusicArchives - Rex left Canberra to go to Sydney mid 1966 and when he came back he told me he'd been playing with the Morloch - I understand from Rex they had a falling out with them! Laurie Crooks came to Canberra around that time/soon after. I deduced that Rex and Laurie were both in the Morloch and that photo confirms as Rex guitar player at some stage. Rex was a great guitarist and musician and ended up playing keyboards wit the Rene Geyee band (of which you probably already know)!
@@bernhardnizynski4403 Thanks! I think that the best explanation of Rex 'missing' from The Morloch is that there was a disagreement, as you said. I can find no other reason why he has been omitted from the relatively short history of the band.
Music is good, the singing is a little weak.
