Rhiannon Giddens is one of the most talented female vocalists I’ve ever had the privilege to see live. She, along with Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive, Brandi Carlile & Adele form my own personal Mt. Rushmore of current female artists.
I love hearing AND watching Giddens perform so much. Her shimmies and sways and dancing, her great expressions, the exuberant joy of her performance add so much to what is just an unbelievable, almost unearthly level of musical talent.
This is my new favorite song, because my S.O. called my hair black. I admit it, I have dark brunette hair; but his calling my hair black surprised me so much. I asked my brother (who is an illustrator) what color he thought my hair was, and he said, "Well... it's like a very dark auburn..." Hehe. It's even funnier because my S.O.'s hair changes color in the summer with exposure to the sun. I'm thinking, "What is the color of my S.O.'s hair?"
And she can dance too! Could've done without that breath-blown keyboard, though. Sounds more like a toy. Should've used a harmonica instead (the kind that Stevie Wonder uses, not a diatonic). Seriously, it almost ruins the song for me.

Heard this from Joan Baez in a traditional version many years ago. Nice version from Rhiannon.
First performed by Sister Rosetta Tharpe--the God Mother of Rock n Roll. :-)

She is amazing.
Check out Christy Moore's version.

Yes great voice, but garbage rendition of a classic song. RUclips "the Holohan sisters" singing this song!
Great version. - saw her live in Australia. Absolutely Brilliant
Hey. C'mon. It's her group's interpretation of the song! A bit upbeat from the traditional, but they're having a ball.
I just listened to the Holohan sisters' version - sorry, good voices but nothing original or inspiring in their arrangement.
