Looks like you had fun with this review.
My use case is I am thinking of downsizing from a reasonably large 4WD PHEV SUV, which I find just too heavy to throw around and too large to park easily. My short list at the moment is either something from Mini or something from Smart. I had thought 4WD essential, but maybe this Mini convinces me I can have just as much fun as with say an ALL4 or a Brabus and save some money. I am seriously tempted.
My first car, around 1973, was a Mini so I am well disposed to all the look and feel of this car. It always kept me on the road which at my then age was quite an engineering feat. The balance of tech and proper buttons and switches of this new incarnation really appeals to me, while feeling mildly familiar. I like very direct and even nervous steering, so go kart mode suits me. The question will boil down to whether suspension which is more Mercedes from a Smart or suspension which is tighter from Mini works best on present UK (and Irish) roads. I would love to see a review of this coast to coast in Ireland, please Derek…

Good review Derek. The problem a lot of car makers have IMHO with regard to small cars is that they are aimed at the younger market and unfortunately most of them can't afford a £30,000 plus car.

I’m old and am getting one shortly after my 65th birthday. I had two of the classic Minis in the early ‘80s - this reminds me more of those than the 2023 models.

Looks good - think they got the revamped front, side and interior right (cleaner and less fussy than previous model) but not a fan of rear (gives me Suzuki Swift from 12 years ago vibes 😕).
But price is high in Ireland, given you could now get a Tesla 3 for that sort of money since their price cuts...
Also, if you need rear doors for kids or elderlies.... not sure I'd swap the Yellow Peril (Peugeot e208) for it..

      It's definitely a smaller/niche audience but I think they'll move a few

Considering Suzuki Swift is a subtle knock-off of Minis on the outside, it actually makes sense. Suzuki Swift is good looking and a nice commuter. But wish it had a fraction of the driving quality of Minis.

Yeah €36k is 7 times the car I now drive. Sub €20k is interesting and worth reaching for. For most your project to refurb a second hand may be the only option until Dacia or one of the Chinese models finally breaks the EV glass ceiling. Its a lovely looking car but is it worth 2x VW eUP ?

The Dacia Spring Irish price should be imminent. £15k in the UK so looking like sub €20k

Great video. Interior looks excellent but the outside looks like an upgraded Suzuki Swift - not a fan of this new look. The range is also quite good which has been a problem in Mini Electric to date. Price has always been Mini's weak point. They are just too expensive new.

Interestingly, you're the second Swift comment since I published the video. I don't see it myself but it's obviously on people's minds. Premium price for sure. Sales figures will tell a tale

In countries where they use kilometres why don't people use km/kWh as a measure of efficiency? I am in the UK and I always think in terms of miles/kWh as that feels very similar to MPG. It also feels easier to do the mental arithmetic when figuring out how far you can go on a charge. The kWh/100km messes with my head. Maybe it's just me.

BMW do the mini. The mini is an ecconic car. How does this equate with BMW? IS IT OVERPRICED? That said nice car.

I’ve heard there are no common parts. Poor driving dynamics is a common criticism of the Ora, so they probably don’t share the same chassis.

Please stop spreading that bullshit about how a gokarty the car feels like. Have you ever driven gokart? Main differences - gokart has no suspension, no rear diff, and is RWD only!!!! While this elektric vehicle is FWD. You will never make a fwd car with rwd car handling qualities and vice versa. Go kart weights up to 100kilos, that's 16 time less then then your car. Go kart has atmosferic ICE, while Mini is electric, or has turbo charged engine. Go kart drives like nothing else of this planet, so please STOP!
