And yeah I wasn't allowed to decorate my own bedroom. She even threw everything out because she didn't like the colours.
You know what i love what this question implies? The fact that mom is ready to accept her daughter would move out one day and it might entail she'll be busy with with life, be it post graduate studies, climbing the career ladder, traveling, and/or having a family of her own thus wont be able to talk as much but then her daughter STILL MAKES TIME to talk to her mother. This is precious. 😭✋✨

So happy you did things according to her vision and not your own aesthetic! A lot of parents decorate their kids rooms according to their own beige aesthetic and don’t let them decide. I eventually grew out of it and wanted it white and it’s stayed that way since, but I just appreciate that my parents let me have my room setup to how I felt comfortable. They didn’t force their own ideas on me

Yes, smart move on Mom's part to keep the "themed" stuff as removable decor. Kids change their minds a lot as they grow up, and the colors and permanent fixtures are pretty versatile here.
Things like this really impact a child’s life. We were really poor growing up but I’ll NEVER forgot my mom and my aunt remodeled my bedroom for my 13th birthday into vampire/twilight themed. They even got posters to hang in frames, Edward and Jacob one on each side 😅 a big ole black canopy, new bedding and decorations. It’s making me tear up just thinking about it now at 30 years old. It wasn’t much but the gesture alone was HUGE and worth a million times more than any dollar amount ❤

My children are all grown now. But my 30 year old daughter reminisces of the 4x in her life I gave her complete bedroom makeovers of her choosing. And i look back on doing them with such joy for her. I watch now as she has done my 10 year old granddaughters bedroom 2x now of her choosing for a magical space catered to her hobbies & interests too. My daughter got her vanity in her 16 yr room make over but my granddaughter at age 10 is ready for that now, currently wanting to be a makeup artist when she grows up so my daughter just set a vanity up for her repurposing a white desk for this. Im getting my granddaughter the same big vanity mirror with the bulbs & light change settings for christmas to complete that project, & makeup storage containers with a sephora gift certificate. I cant wait to surprise her with this at Christmas! You did an amazing job creating a magical space for her. Great job!

This looks beautiful. I do think, if you loved the original color scheme that is very silly to change it because it matches a flag. Do what makes you happy and use colors how you wish if you like them! I've accidentally painted another countries flag for my bookshelf. I love the colors so i decided to say oh whatever, it's my bookcase so since my intention wasnt anything specific, and the bookshelf is only there for me, I'm keeping it as is because it makes me happy. In this case, that lavender just looks more blended than yellow. If you wanna get technical about flags, you could argue that you changed it to the bi flag 😂 Colors are beautiful together, i think it looks fantastic

I find it interesting that she moved out to her own room at 7, my daughter wanted hers at 2. But it just goes to show how different every child is, and when they’re ready, they’re ready! That room turned out so beautiful.
My sons 6 and still sleeps in my room on his own mattress. 😅 But mainly we have this set up cause I'm a single mom and he's a type 1 diabetic. So it's easier for us this way.

My mom! We were on a budget so she sewed my curtains, duvet, throw pillows, and a couple other tidbits here and there. She painted my room cranberry, white, and black and it was old Hollywood stars/paris themed. We got an ugly gold chandelier free out of the dump and we cleaned it up and painted it black and it was GORGEOUS! She bought posters of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Katherine Hepburn, and painted my furniture black. Had little Eiffel Tower knickknacks. And she let me help with every little part of my room! It’s one of my best memories! Also, I did pick the theme myself. I was obsessed with old movies as a kid and would watch the TCM channel everyday when I got home from school.

I remember when my parents saved enough $$ to let my pick me own color schemes out (black,white and a bubble gum pink via the very early 2000s). It was so exciting helping my dad paint the whole thing knowing I had designed it. It isn't the same bed room now, as I haven't lived at home in almost 15 years. However, they still asked me for details when they made it the guest room. It meant so much. 😂❤

I've accidentally painted another countries flag for my bookshelf. I love the colors so i decided to say oh whatever, it's my bookcase so since my intention wasnt anything specific, and the bookshelf is only there for me, I'm keeping it as is because it makes me happy.
In this case, that lavender just looks more blended than yellow. If you wanna get technical about flags, you could argue that you changed it to the bi flag 😂

I find it interesting that she moved out to her own room at 7, my daughter wanted hers at 2.
But it just goes to show how different every child is, and when they’re ready, they’re ready! That room turned out so beautiful.
My sons 6 and still sleeps in my room on his own mattress. 😅
But mainly we have this set up cause I'm a single mom and he's a type 1 diabetic. So it's easier for us this way.

😍😍😍 I think a lot of us with sh*tty childhoods are extremely happy for the childhood you’re giving your daughter while also feeling a twinge of pain because this is something we couldn’t have even dreamed of our parents doing for us…which is why most of us are living out our childhood dreams as adults. 😂 This is really cool and I’m so glad to see people my age doing better for their children. :)

My mom! We were on a budget so she sewed my curtains, duvet, throw pillows, and a couple other tidbits here and there. She painted my room cranberry, white, and black and it was old Hollywood stars/paris themed. We got an ugly gold chandelier free out of the dump and we cleaned it up and painted it black and it was GORGEOUS! She bought posters of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Katherine Hepburn, and painted my furniture black. Had little Eiffel Tower knickknacks. And she let me help with every little part of my room! It’s one of my best memories! Also, I did pick the theme myself. I was obsessed with old movies as a kid and would watch the TCM channel everyday when I got home from school.

Maybe when she's grown up and she grows out of it she may want to go through the hard work of paining over it but i assure you the memories she'll have in that room and the love she'll have for you will be unparalleled. I remember when my parents saved enough $$ to let my pick me own color schemes out (black,white and a bubble gum pink via the very early 2000s). It was so exciting helping my dad paint the whole thing knowing I had designed it. It isn't the same bed room now, as I haven't lived at home in almost 15 years. However, they still asked me for details when they made it the guest room. It meant so much. 😂❤
