  • Aversion to of the video I posted earlier. Somewhat laughingly I called the gridflux the rift core. LOL, these are Impressions 24 hours after receiving the pack. Hopefully it helps you with your decision.

    always being the enabler... I let a friend borrow my Sitka. First taste is free you know. :-)
    I'll be getting it back I think this week and then I'll do a load out comparison. I'm glad the video is helping people make a decision. I'll also give a small update on traveling with the new pack. Thanks everyone.

    @Greff Carter On the 15" laptop, yes. I borrowed my wife's MacBook Pro 15" and I had no issues with space, it even provided 1/1.5" to spare. As for the one to one on the Kodiak I'm not really sure as I don't own one however looking at the size chart on Maxpedition it's a little smaller. I think it was pretty much 1" on each dimension except for depth where it was 2" more.

      Even if your post is a year old, maybe you can answer this: will the 15" Macbook even fit into that "tablet pocket" inside the main compartment?

    I really like the AGR design. Is more allrounder to carry as an EDC. Old model (like sitka) is more for BOB. I will surely get this gridflux once available at my local store. I have riftcore and i like it alot.

    Nice review Sir. I too am of shorter stature and have been rockin the Monsoon for the past 4 years. Hate the way the strap cuts too high across my chest. I've been looking forward to the new Max AGR stuff and hoping that the new designs will help. I'm considering the Edgepeak, Gridflux, or maybe even the Wolfspur. Still waiting on RUclips reviews to help with my choice. Agree with one of the other quotes and would like to see your loadout.

    Thank you for the review and great comparison. I've started using Maxpedition products since early 2000s, and after watching your review, I am convinced that newer doesn't mean better. Although nothing is perfect, I feel they should have updated their original gear sooner, instead of abandoning the entire time-tested legacy line. Many people I know have moved on and will not give the new AGR a try simply because it's pure fashion and it will be outdated in a few years... Besides, that AGR price is hiiiiiigh!

    So is the Gridflux Smaller then the Kodiak? The S-Type Kodiak is what i have currently and i was looking into the Gridflux as an upgrade. My main concern is is the strap on the same side as the S-Type packs, and will it be able to hold a 15" laptop in the main compartment?

    How’s the gridflux holding up ? Just curious cause there’s very few reviews and update videos are non existent at the moment. Any information on the bag would be much appreciated! Thanks ! Good comparison/review of the bag. I also have a sitka and have just recently purchased the gridflux waiting patiently for it haha.

      It's going well. I have a frustration that came on shortly after purchasing the pack and that's the depth of the pack itself. How far it sticks off of my back when wearing it. The Sitka lacked that rigidity and when empty or most of the times took up a fraction of the same space with the same load out. I understand why but it's still been my only frustration. It was with that frustration I bought the new AGR but quickly returned that one. This one is still my everyday carry and certainly does the job.
      For those who are interested my return of the AGR is due to the same issue others have voiced. The pockets are so incredibly tight you really can't store anything in them. There's no pleat in the fabric like there is in this and the Sitka and thus your not able to carry much. If I can find a few of the videos I'll post them here as those folks voiced my same issue.

    I am debating between a few of the new bags and have a question on color. Does this black collect lint and crap like crazy? It seems like it won't given the new pattern/material.
    I have a 5.11 sling bag in black and it looks like crap since it just collects lint or anything it comes in contact with. I am trying to convert over from a bunch of Multicam pattern bags to a more discrete colors. I was originally thinking of the Edgepeak in the new Gray color, but after seeing your video the black looks really nice.

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  8 лет назад

      you're right, it doesn't for lint. But it does for dog hair.

      ***** ok cool, and thanks for such a quick response! I am going to be carrying a 13" Chromebook Pixel, 9" tablet, power cord, snacks, Yeti bottle for a drink, some random small electronics and possibly a few spare mags for my pistol, as well as my gun (if I don't have it on body. Would you recommend any specific bag for that gear? I am trying to go with the smallest bag possible. I am thinking the EdgePeak might be too small, and this bag that you have might be best option. Thanks!

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  8 лет назад

      I have to kind of agree with you. My Dell XPS is almost exactly the same size as the Chromebook Pixel, it's 16x9 not 4x3. You'll have plenty of room in there. As for mags there's a multitude of areas for that. The felt inside can hold a couple of the small 5.11 velcro mag holders quite nicely and while haven't touched the Edgepeak I have to think that you may actually be good there, can anyone else comment on that one? The dimensions don't look that far off but there's one serious thing to consider. The Edgepeak pockets don't face you when you swing the pack to front. When I swing my pack to front all of the pockets are facing up so I can rummage through them much easier, this includes the CCW pocket. Honestly that was the deciding factor for me. I couldn't live without it after having it in the Sitka.

    • @rickjames4283
      @rickjames4283 8 лет назад

      ***** ok, thats a good point to consider. I thought the pockets on the Edgepeak were ambi, but I need to look again. Also, the water bottle pouch on the Gridflux is a huge bonus. I always have my water bottle with me and finding a spot for that on the smaller pack might be an issue. Thanks again for the responses. I just have one last question. Did you by chance see any other colors in person? I am really torn between the gray and black and would love an opinion on what they both look like in person. Keep up the good reviews!

      Rick James Definitely check those pockets, keep me honest. Heh..
      I've only seen the black.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion on this pack. Its a nice comparison with the older series to see which direction the company is going with their products.
    Just wanted to ask, would you think a Microsoft Surface Book would fit in there? I understood that you were able to fit your old Dell 13" Laptop in there, but I didn't know if you just meant in the main storage compartment or slipped into that larger zipper fold in the main compartment.
    Its a shame that there are not that many reviews of this product out there on the web of this product! I reckon it looks quite nice. So thanks for your work on this review.

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  8 лет назад

      kensei1984 a Microsoft Surface would fit easily in other backpack. that was on my list as a possible replacement for my old laptop when I settled on the Dell. The Dell has slightly larger dimensions. I would even guess the Microsoft Surface would fit in the padded back zip up pocket.

    Hey Matt, it's a bit late question, but how do you deal with primary strap free end sliding while slinging the pack back and forward? I just got one and that's the only problem I have so far, it's just moving with the loop almost freely.

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  7 лет назад

      xlorki all in it spins well. I admit if I'm not going through it I have I secured with the extra strap. So I can't say I have an issue with it.
      So if you don't have the stabilizer strap it just slides forward/around?

    • @xlorki
      @xlorki 7 лет назад

      Pardon, didn't describe it properly, I marked the strap and a loop ring on the picture. The loop ring slides along the shoulder strap's lower part, for now I'm trying various ideas to get it fixed without stapler.

      The slingpack overall is pretty solid, this is just a minor issue.

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  7 лет назад +1

      Gotcha, that really is an issue. Mine used to slide out all the time until I put two of my daughters hair ties on it. I have one above and one below and that seems to keep it rather stable. It still slides out at times but the hair ties are small, black and mostly keep it from sliding out.

    • @xlorki

      Well, seems like it's time to steal some hair ties from my daughter, thank you :)

      I'm afraid I don't use either pack anymore. I moved to the 5.11 Tactical AMP10 BACKPACK 20L; I have mobility issues and because I can wear it as a sling pack when I use my canes and a standard backpack when in my wheelchair it's perfect.

    I'm curious to know if you still have the gridflux and if so how did it hold up ?

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  4 года назад

      I recently moved from it to the 5.11 AMP12 but it had been holding up perfectly. Not an issue in the world. I moved packs because the AMP lets me carry it cross body as well as duel straps. This makes it easier with my wheelchair.

    which one is better the new edition or the kodiak

    • @MattWells
      @MattWells  8 лет назад

      I never had the Kodiak and it's funny that you this question came through now. I've been using the old Sitka a bit more lately. I really like the Gridflux and it's clear they put a lot into it however my issue is with how rigid it is. The Sitka would at least collapse down if it was empty but this one doesn't. I hoped over time it would but it just hasn't. I use a wheelchair and forearm crutches and that extra width has started to become a bit of an issue for me. Outside of that it's still a great pack but I also mentioned in another comment you don't have the same storage capability. After chancing my loadout at least 6 times I still can't carry some items and have had to trim down my med kit and a few other items.
