When I was little we would put autumn leaves between to pieces of wax paper, cover it with a towel, and iron them in. They would stay preserved colorful for quite some time. 😊
I remember doing that with fall leaves too! Older kids had to make a leaf notebook.
We used to add crayon shavings to ours. Then the shavings would melt when you ironed it. We made placemats with them.

We did leaves in the fall also and small florals in the summer. Great learning for children.
I remember using an iron to enclose autumn leaves in wax paper. And then hung them in the window until it was time to cut snowflakes out of tissue paper and stuck them to the window using plastic wrap.
If you use your iron to press the wax paper onto the first page, it will work. We do fall leaves between 2 sheets of wax paper for a fall Sunday School project. You an also grate crayons in between and iron. Makes a really cool "stained glass" look.

A million years ago in photography class, we used the wax paper to mount photos on mat board. We had an iron in class that we used to melt the wax (paper was same size as photo) and secure the photo.
Thanks Matilda yes I think it needed an iron from the start. I try that next time 🐝🦋
@@TheTreasuredPage You might want to experiment because I'm pretty sure we didn't apply the iron directly to the wax paper. We probably positioned everything in layers and covered it with something else like if you were ironing some type of fabric that you don't want to melt, but I don't recall specifics. Seems like we wouldn't have put the iron directly on top of the photo or wax.

Is the piece of wax paper that was heated more transparent than the other piece? It looks it, but is hard to see from the video. Just watched you heat the embossed piece & it’s definitely more transparent. That is a wonderful technique you discovered! Beautiful result

When my washi sticks like that, I blow on it as though I’m warming up cold hands…that does the stick and is less risky than the microwave!

It’s very cool, but I will spare myself the trouble and just use freezer paper and an iron to fuse it. At least I know it will be perfect.
Yes exactly, let me make the mistakes and experiments to save you time and expense. It was the glassine texture that I was impressed with. Freezer paper is also not that transparent but will definitely fuse napkin etc 🦋

You are so welcome Tania have fun with it. I heated my wax paper first before running it through embosser then heated it again after on camera to create the glassine effect. Not sure if heating first makes a difference to the outcome I need to play more with it. ❤️🦋
If you use a hot iron that will melt them together, when I was a kid in vacation Bible school, we used to do all kinds of things with wax paper. But you have to use a hot iron not the embossing gun

Hi, I appreciate your ideas and this wax paper Ephemera. Question: What size are your embossing folder? It appears to be closer to 8 x 11 size. Please advise. 2nd question: if larger what are the names of the machine you use and folder description. The links in the description box appear to be only addresses. Hi Christine, Yes, correct It is a larger A4 8 x 11 embossing folder, it an old folder I found in a thrift store. I have a Time Holtz Switch Embossing machine I will share more in depth information in my next video as I just stumbled on technique while filming rather than planning a video around the idea. I’ll keep you posted 😉🦋
How did you emboss that whole page? I have the sizzix big shot but don’t know how to emboss the bigger pages.

I tried it, but the embossing folders tear the wax paper. I tried double and triple layers of wax paper--the triple gave one image out of 3 without tears. It was shallow though. I tried simpler patterns with the same problems. My wax paper cut rite is very transparent initially so maybe a more opaque brand? Suggestions?
Well done for having a go, I guess the wax paper brands may vary. You could try heating it first to get the wax to soak into the tissue paper more. The embossing doesn’t take much pressure for wax paper, I only used one pass through a machine, maybe try a rolling pin over the top to vary the pressure and too see if your wax paper is too thin.
Also It won’t work on 3D embossing folders. Hope that helps ☺️🦋
Don't use a Magic Mat with the Big Shot Switch..! I did the correct sandwich with the Magic Mat and the machine jammed.. Actually exploded the sides out, as well. It was a brand new machine but the warranty did not apply because the warranty only applies when using specific products and the Magic Mat was not one of them. Examples of jammed machines all over RUclips..! Be sure to check for the approved products; it can be a very expensive mistake..!

Traditionally Junk Journals are books made from junk, clutter and scraps destined for the trash. We use surplus supplies, waste materials and recycled papers or fabrics. We alter them into something worthwhile and inspiring. Junk journals are a perfect platform to process day to day obstacles through safe paper play while discovering creative thought and new ideas. Making something out of nothing and getting a buzz from the sense of achievement. We make something once boring, beautiful. Great for those who like to keep a regular handwritten journal but also like to add ephemera to pages of treasured memories such as tickets and pictures. A visual artistic record or your creativity but with the freedom to play and craft without needing rules or a reason. 😉🦋
Don’t microwave. Use your hairdryer on a low setting and just warm the edges.
