You could have added how that by adding the new "chime" in the umpires earpiece has actually caused a new controversy to happen in the future. In 2014 in a hawthorn game against adelaide at adelaide oval, umpire Ray Chamberlain stopped play just before the quarter ended believing he heard the chime in his ear signalling the end of the quarter but it wasnt. He balled the ball up and a few seconds later the actual siren went. He said to a player that he heard the chime in his ear thats why he did it but the afl confirmed there was no Chime and they dont know what noise he may have heard to mistake it for the chime (maybe it was static noise or a brief buzz who knows).
Would love to see a video about the Father-son rule. It's one of the weirdest concepts in world sport and seems super counter-intuitive for a league that strives for parity.
@FootyA2Z most were confused but understood it to be a draw. I remember an annoying kid who was a Saints fan near me that was upset, but his Dad was telling him not to worry as they got 2 points.
Hey guys, great channel; I love the animations and music. Quick suggestion: I've been looking for some good non-fiction books on footy, real classics of the genre (much like The Game by Ken Dryden is to hockey). I'm a Canadian footy fan and a late convert, and am interested in the history of the sport (recent and/or ancient). So I was wondering if you had any recommendations. It could also be the content of a new video.
I'm a big fan of 'Time and Space' by James Coventry, a really interesting history of football tactics. If you want something epic, they published a big red book called 'The Australian Game of Football' in 2008 for the 150 year anniversary of the sport, which is one of my prized possessions. If you want something recent and scandalous, 'The Boys Club' is interesting.
I'm curious if there is a law about faulty equipment or not using equipment properly. The siren was used but not loud enough. This was unacceptable for a professional sporting organization.
Im not an AFL fan at all, it feels like half the things you say are in a foreign language.. But I really enjoy your videos and the weird history that comes with it
Amazingly, to this day I still feel the saints were robbed. Sure, freo did win in reality. However, an AFL match ends when the umpire blows his/her whistle, not when the timeclock was meant to signal the end of the game, not when the siren was supposed to sound and certainly not when the afl steps in and changes the rules... If the saints got the 2 points from that result they would have made the top 4 and could have maybe (******maybe*****) stolen a premiership. Frustrating how afl rules and rule changes effected the saints in 2006, 2010.
the rule should be void for the sake of the integrity of the afl in this kind of situation and hah, no way saints were beating sydney or west coast in the finals if they needed a daylight robbery to go their way to make top 4 thats just like saying ben keays "point" wasn't actually a goal against sydney because the goal umpire ruled it as a behind come on, its common sense, its actually shocking to see how much it lacks and if anything, freo would have been more likely to beat the eagles instead of the crows in the first qualifying final (as they would have been 4th and eagles were 1st) and the dockers beat the eagles twice that season, so if there was more a team that was likely to steal a premiership between the two, it was definitely fremantle
most st kilda shit ever is losing the same game 3 times

While we all know that umpires are blind, this video teaches us that they are deaf as well.
Another brilliantly researched and compiled video!
Hmm, maybe you could do a video on the Sydney Heist that has been this year.
Sirengate hexed both teams for the rest of history
It would be awesome if you guys did a video about the tumultuous last few years at North Melbourne. Love your work 👍👍
Yes, please. It might provide some answers to explain what a basket case we have become.
For your next video please review the blatantly incorrect decision by the goal umpire in Swans v Crows from Round 23, 2023.
haha i was looking at you're past videos today, great to see another one again!
Just watched the port and crows rivalry vid, awesome work! Need a vid on the West coast and Freo rivalry and the Demolition Derby!
Great vid as always.
Would love to see you you do something on the demise of Fitzroy and the years leading up to this
That 2021 game in Geelong is one of the worst umpires non calls in history
A video on why it is so hard to kick bags of goals like in the past. Or on International players past and present who have played AFL.
Can you please do a video on the time Carlton nearly couped North Melbourne and took over the club?
great vid

I agree that it's not great for parity, but it's great for the romance - and the culture - of the game.
the afl does the exact opposite of striving for parity.
There is no video about the Father-Son rule but it is explained in the National Draft video ruclips.net/video/O6yNeVtNbos/видео.html
3:20 - I hope they got rid of the impotence of the horn. Nothing worse than an impotent horn
Please do How did Collingwood do so well I’m 2022 🙏
there is a lot more to this
I was at this game. First I ever went to. I didn't hear the siren.
Wow what a crazy first game. Did anyone around you hear it/realise what was going on?

John Devaney's two histories of the game, A Far Off Land and A Stolen Dream, are worth reading.
