After playing with my GP200 for a few weeks now and rewatching this video i can definitely appreciate it even more and think out of the box it sounds better than the boss, at least on your particular amp/cab comparison here. Thanks Leo for the great content, keep it coming!
This is kinda surprising, Valeton GP-200 sounds really close to the real amps. I was watching hoping for the opposite 😅 Even after tweaking the GX-100 lacks the fullness.
Totally agree with you, that's the only reason why I got the Valeton, after knowing that Hotone ampero sounds very realistic and Valeton use the same algorithms.
Leo ,I greatly appreciate your thoroughness in testing these units...I have been holding off on replacing my old zoom g7.1ut for some time , and was hell bent on a helix unit, alas, finances just won’t allow it...however,after hearing your tests with the Valeton gp200 ,especially how dynamically it responds, not to mention the spots on amp tones, I placed my order for one at a great $280.00..I always trust your content..and you are a very knowledgeable and versatile player..thanks...
Leo Gibson , first of all you are a great guitar player which gives a broad amplitude of sounds when you are testing those guitar boards . Besides you are in my opinion the best person testing them with a full comprehensive explanation . Meanwhile , I feel more inclined to the GX-100 but the GP-200 does offer some details not available on the GX-100 . I know you can't give your straight opinion on them but a tip to unlock the undecidedness would be welcome :)
Hi Joao, thank you so much, these are all great compliments, that really make me happy!!! Well, let me say that it's really hard to give a "black" and "white" opinion...as there are many little differences and things for which one unit is better than the other one and vice versa. It really comes down to your needs and what you prefer, what it is important for you. For instance here you may prefer the GX 100 for it more flexible signal chain or for the touch screen, or you may prefer the GP 200 as it has more amps, and maybe there is an amp in the GP 200 that you like and that is not available in the GX 100...In this videos I try to show you all the differences in terms of features and tone...so that you can judge by your own which is better for you. Thank you once more!
Thanks a lot Leo for that valuable tip . I think I will write the pros and cons of each other . Besides those differences that you have mentioned did you perceived some differences in what sound is concern ? They sound pretty much the same but from what a heard the GX-100 gives a more solid sound . Maybe it's just my perception . Keep on playing on your wonderful environment :)
Hi Joao, there are difference from the two units in terms of sound, but I don't know if the differences can be categorised in bad or good. If you listen the more sound section of the video, I think you can have an idea of the main differences. Thank you!
Great again! I encourage you to create a series of videos explaining techniques to create presets with any plugin/multi-effects (EQ, comp, audio levels...) even if it was with a payment method.
I owned the BOSS GX 100 and prefer it to my Helix. The Valeton is not bad, but has no chance against the BOSS. The BOSS has no gapping when changing presets. In my opinion as a live player this is a plus to go with the BOSS. I missed this point in your review.
Grazie a te!!! In generale entrambi suonano bene... Grazie ed un saluto!
I'm really surprised that Valeton sounds more accurate than the Boss GX100. Even in the tweaked section, GP200 sounds even more accurate. I'm more of a tone guy and definitely, Valeton GP200 is my choice. It provides more Amp & speaker Cab realizations. And now GP200 already have a firmware upgrade which clears some bugs and added 6 more effects plus a 4x4 USB audio. Price-wise Valeton win hands down.
Hi sir, could u do a demo on a multi effects in a situation of infront of amp/fx return n live in a band(if possible)?Cause mostly,if not all,on youtube, all demoing the multi effects straight onto PC...Thanks Leo Gibson for your wonderful videos🕺😉👍🏋♂
Hello mr Leo Gibson, very nice video. Sorry for my bad English, I liked the tones from the units. For more than 20 years, i use to own pedalboards from Line 6, Digitech, Boss and Zoom. When i play alone, i almost never use boss multies, i prefer the tone from other brands. That changes when i rehearsal with my band, or play live gigs. The Boss fits better, especially when we play 2 guitars in the band. So for me, after all this years, Boss for the rehearsal and live gigs, the others for practicing home! Go figure out ... While i am having the GT100 for gigs, i am planning to buy the GX because of the effects carryover, touch screen and that i can program also bank up/down switches. These are improvements for me, for live use.
One thing to keep in mind with Boss, they have at least 4-5 different Marshall amp base profiles they have used in the various GT products. They all sound very different. I’m not sure which ones they loaded in the GX, but the GT1000 has multiple, and some are much closer to the plexi tone than others that are modeled more towards’59 or modern stacks.
Hi, I've used the "BRIT STACK": its description in the BOSS manual is "This models a Marshall 1959". In the user manual there is no other amp which models a Plexi Thank you for your message! .
Hi Ivan, honestly I always prefer guitars over modellers ... guitars are an investment (especially high level ones), where modellers are gonna loose their value when new models are released. Thank you!

I need help. I’m looking to choose between the Boss GT-100 and the Valeton GP-200. Im going to use one of them for recordings into Logic as well as practice and live stuff. I want to be able to get experimental vintage psychedelic, Holdsworth inspired, and other ambient / synth sounds out of the one I choose. Any thoughts?
I have not compared the old GT 100 to the Valeton, therefore I can't tell from direct experience. Nevertheless, I have compared the old GT 100 to the new GX 100, and in my opinion the GX 100 is totally worth the extra money. Thank you!
Ciao Leo! Splendido come sempre. In mano tua queste macchine suonano tutte bene!
Ciao Lorenzo, grazie mille! Grazie ancora!
One advantage of the Valeton is its looper - 180 seconds -AND- an undo feature. Otherwise, for me, the Boss wins. The ability to have multiples of the same effects is huge (multiple ODs or EQ's anyone?). Plus the level of control you have is scary - you can control multiple parameters (on/off or values) with one footswitch or pedal. Whatever you choose, the ability to get YOUR sound should be one of the highest priorities.
I was struggling with GX100 for over a year. The main issue was getting a descent sound out of it. I don't need hundreds of effects and parallel chains that amount to nothing. The more I tweaked it the worse it got, it was very frustrating. I finally ditched it and will be trying GP200 next. I had GT-1 for years before it and I could swear it sounded better than GX100... Kinda reminded me of japanese hifi in the 80' - thin, pale and lifeless.
What I love from Valeton GP-200 are realistic amp sound, super easy to tweak, decent delay, reverb and OD, you can use fx loop in series or parallel, you can have global eq to adapt with your stage situation. The price is a half of boss gx, somehow barely use stereo scenario for live situation so i dont need parallel chain
Let's face it the amp modelers are really closing the gap V's a real amp. I have always felt that boss did a great job in the effect department, but seems to still really lack in the high gain amps. The Boss GX sound pretty good on clean tones. Also the Boss GX has a nice interface, but I fell the Valeton GP-200 leaves the Boss GX in the dust for tone matching. The GP-200 sounds far more 3d and very close to the real live amps in this video. There are some good effects in the Valeton but the reverbs are a little lacking, Pitch-shifting could be better. Most are very useable. I have to say it would be hard to find a better modeler for the price (314.98 Amazon, US) of the Valeton GP-200. Can't wait until they build there next one. Oh bye way, I did own the Mooer GE-300 and it was nice but someone stole it out of my car (long story) and then I replaced it with the Fractal AXE 2 XL with the foot controller, but that stays in my studio. I think the Mooer sounded pretty good and had really nice reverbs, but I think this Valetron is pretty close to my Fractal tone wise, but I can do way more with the Fractal if I work it hard.
It's happening to me that the gp200 is overloading too often. Even it starts finehen I awitch pre and eq and overloads, but then i disable them and continues making crackling sounds. It's really annoying. I feel it needs more processing power to handle a simple chain
The Valeton sounds streets better than the Boss... I'm surprised... There was very little difference between the original amp and the Valeton. In the Boss I could hear saturation and lack of definition... as if it was a much cheaper version of the original. I'm now between the Headrush MX5, the NUX MG30 and the Valeton GP200...and leaning to the Valeton...
This is not an apples to apples comparison, the GX100 for instance needs a different cab selected, you need to also adjust which output you're using when recording, front of amp etc.. You can hear the gain over saturating the input which means that something is amiss on the setup for this causing the tinny/sound that others are hearing, this is not the case for the Valeton as it outputs XLR always in Line mode. I have the MKII as well as the Fender Deluxe Reverb, and a Fender twin, with the IR's assigned, cabs selected properly and it going, I am able to nail the tone, and the effects of the GX100 are much better than the Vale, if I was telling a friend what to buy their teen player , I'd say the Valeton simply because of the price, as it is 80% of the way there, the GX when configured sounds amazing and honestly is also a GT1000 killer if you don't need XLR, the difference in 32bit DAC vs 24bit DAC is not noticeable, the GX and GT are more musical in the response. Hopefully the video maker can look at some of the IR's offered and play with them so that they match the real amp and see what I am talking about as well in the output selection needed.
Boa noite! Sou brasileiro!
I purchased a new Boss GX100 . It has terrible presets but tweaked up real nice. Then it started autochanging parameters for no reason, switching patches and menus even. I had this same thing happen with Boss GT6 which turned the things into a useless paperweight. I suspect There is something very bad in the Boss design. I took it back to the shop and have to wait for them to find the fault, it is entirely random. That will be my last boss purchase After buying their product for over 40 years. i am going to try the Valeton. Guitar world at Nerang are very unreasonable in not crediting back immediately as i showed them a video of the unit going nuts. Time to go to consumer affairs.
@@SujeetGT Oh really? Because I knew it from a video from an Indonesian RUclipsr and in that demo, I found it quite disturbing. I was just unsure whether it is the case for every GP 200 or just the one that owned by him. Anyway, thank you for your reply. Really appreciate it. Cheers
That Valeton sounds almost identical to the real amp, the Boss has it's own thing going on. I don't know how to explain it, it's got a different type of sound to it, where as the Valeton has the same fullness. Hey Leo, while watching the video I had a good idea. When you're running through your licks, if you could change the source of it mid riff you could hear the differences while the lick was playing since it's a DI track anyway. Just an idea. Great vid as usual. That Valeton is really impressive.
I think ill stick to my boss gtk or gx 100, gp 200 have good tone in the box, but boss have enough flexibility to tweak (4 eqs in gtk), boss also using its own AIRD where different from other amp sims processors, wish boss have more amps sims option in future like gp 200
I'm sorry, but the Valeton sounds very close to the real amps. Boss is nowhere near the real amps and it's twice the price of the Valeton in India. Boss may have better effects but Valeton has some essential features like XLR outputs and easy interface. To me Boss or even line 6 POD go is not worth twice the price.
I agree. I have a Valeton and the Boss IR200. The Valeton models are excellent. Where the effects come in and other features like more IR slots, Boss wins. But you can just throw some effects in front of the Valeton and save money. Sounds awesome! Wonderful analysis as usual, Leo!
@@eggshellalien yeah that's exactly what I do, I use a Zoom multistomp CDR post Valeton just for the effects and it sounds awesome. Still less than the price of Boss both combined. We all know how great is this Zoom pedal
Yea good luck with updating the Valeton GP-200s Firmware, I tried everything even visited GP- 200 forums. Every time I tried to update the software crashed. If I had known, it came from the same company as AMPERO I would have never bought it. BUYER BEWARE!
Wow, just listening to the first three or four licks... The Valeton unit is much fuller and more realistic. The Boss pedal is more twangy and hollow... seems to lack that fullness and sustain. Just my opinion. 😁
Kind of sad that the GX100 doesn't have balanced outputs. Very disappointing to have to add extra gear instead of simply use TRS to XLR cables, or direct XLR. I get with the compact size sometimes room isn't in the back for xlr, but there definitely is not any size change from TR to TRS outputs.
@@LeoGibsonGtr The GT-1000 IR bug has been fixed, but it has not been fixed in the GX-100, despite what the current firmware (v1.11) patch notes say. The issue has been proven to still exist by users on The Gear Page forum. Boss is aware and working on the issue. However, they seem to be sitting on the fix for a strategic NAMM release of the next firmware. BTW, the issue in the GX-100 isn't that it can't load IRs, it's that the IRs do not have full frequency response so they sound low-fi.
have to say i prefer the gp200. i do feel that the bass could be cut a little in the ir if possible from 150-200hz. it's a touch woolie and too much low end. but, it sounded way more three dimensional.

I'm now between the Headrush MX5, the NUX MG30 and the Valeton GP200...and leaning to the Valeton...
Hi Pierre, thank you for sharing your experience and your findings!
Percebi a mesma coisa.
Hi, one year later, which one did you choose?
Hi, I'm not quite sure if I have properly understood your points.
Are you suggesting NOT to use the same IR for both the units?
Thanks
Boa noite! Sou brasileiro!
You are welcome and thank you for sharing your findings!
Hi, I'm very sorry about your experience and I really hope that you will solve these problems!
I added a tc x3 for parallel effects....prefer the amps on the go200
Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi, Leo! How do you find the lag in the Gp 200 when you switch to other sound or preset? Will there be any updates to fix it?
The lag is very very minimal, you hardly notice it.
Cheers
@@kenminerva yeah, you can watch the full review of Valeton gp 200 by Leo Gibson where he demonstrates this feature
@@SujeetGT thanks, man!! 🙌🏿🙌🏿
No final das contas, o preço sempre dita a decisão
Yes, the price is a very important aspect to be considered!
GE 300 x GX-100 please
Hi, thank you for your suggestion!
Yes. I've had the same thought. Sometimes switch mid-sample, sometimes show the full decay.
Hi Five Finer, Hi Matt. Thank you for your suggestion...I will see what I can do...
I think ill stick to my boss gtk or gx 100, gp 200 have good tone in the box, but boss have enough flexibility to tweak (4 eqs in gtk), boss also using its own AIRD where different from other amp sims processors, wish boss have more amps sims option in future like gp 200
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your opinion and your findings!
Hi, thank you for sharing! By the way...You don't have to be sorry...all the opinions are more than welcome.
Loading the software, updating the firmware and installing the ASIO driver worked great with no issues.
for live performance i prefer the boss and valeton for recording.
Hi Endy, thank you for sharing your findings!
Valeton GP 200 sounds better as far as amp simulations, Boss GX 100 sounds better as far as effect simulations.
Hi, thank you for sharing your findings!!
Wow, just listening to the first three or four licks... The Valeton unit is much fuller and more realistic. The Boss pedal is more twangy and hollow... seems to lack that fullness and sustain. Just my opinion. 😁
Hi Paul, thank you for sharing! All opinions are more than welcome!
Hi, thank you for sharing your findings!
They are much closer on the Fender test.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
GX-100 has had an IR bug since launch which is probably why people are preferring the Valeton.
Hi, thank you for sharing.
Actually I think IR is fixed now, but you are right, at its launch time, GT 1000 did not have the possibility to load IRs.

Valetone 👍
Thank you for sharing!
nice
Thanks!
GP200 sounds very close to the real amp here.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Perfect gp200
Thank you for sharing!
have to say i prefer the gp200. i do feel that the bass could be cut a little in the ir if possible from 150-200hz. it's a touch woolie and too much low end. but, it sounded way more three dimensional.
Hi Scott, thank you so much for sharing your opinion and your findings!
Gp 200 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing!
wah sound?
HI, there are many wah available, and I think they are good in both the units.
Thank you!
Ok so no touch screen or parallel signal chain but who cares when you're getting better tones for less money
Hi, thank you for sharing your findings!
why pay more fore the boss when the valeton is cheper an sound way mor better
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Dynamic range test GX100 completely lost in my opinion
Hi, thank you for sharing.
Gp 200 lucks like better than the boss
Hi Joao, thank you for sharing!
Neither 😁 FM3
😀
Boss always sounds very very bad....super digital terrible multi FX for generations haha!
The Valeton blew away the Boss.
