Wassim Alhajomar I think you're right in general. But, if you're pitching at a learner attempting to play odd time signatures, I think it's fair for the uploader to assume a level of viewer competence such that they'll be unimpressed by "attention grabbing" playing. We definitely all came here to see what he explained perfectly, which is how to count the rhythms in a natural way.
regardless of what he knows and what viewer knows. this is youtube. in general if you dont grab your viewers attention in the first couple of seconds they are most likely going to skip to the next of thousands of videos. that is, speaking of newcommers. not usual subscribers. as my advice was aimed for newcomers not subscribers
Wassim Alhajomar As I said, I think you're right in general: i.e. if the uploader were aiming at a wide, populist audience. However, I was just considering the possibility that he wasn't and that those strategies might be less effective on the leftover demographic, given the fact that 1) musicians represent a small subset of the general population, 2) guitarists are a smaller subset within that and 3) guitarists with an interest in Balkan gypsy rhythms are an even smaller subset still - a very thin slice of the population that generalist strategies normally apply to. I, for example, having never visited this channel, subscribed on the basis of this video, so I seem to buck your trend.
I love the sound of your guitar! , reminds me of george katsaros , one of the early Greek rebetes . There was that period in Izmir where Turkish , Greek , Gypsy , jewish and Armenian music influenced eachother , politics divided us but the music does heal somewhat. Keep up that lovely tone!
In İzmir is still the same my friend. My girlfriend is a Greek living in the TheSsaloniki (Selanik) more we talk about culture, Greeks, Turks etc. , more we find out about the things those exactly the same. Food and food names, Swear words and way of swearing or getting angry, traditional proverbs, behavior and attitude of the people, family life etc. so and so. Greeks are like Turks ( I means the Turkish Turks those actually behaves like real Turk = Real Turkish culture) but only speaking different language and have different flag. Anything beside these two are exactly the same. Even religion named different but in practiver and way oıf living the religion is almost same. Motions are same too. Before I met my girl friend; I new it was close culture but never thought that it is almost exactly the same.

That was one of the doorstop videos I’ve seen in my whole life! Only 3k likes? This is absolute gold, man! With practical drills to run even! Clear teaching style, to the point at a good pace. Loved it. Subscribed.
Great lesson! I had been looking around for info on Balkan rhythms, and your lesson was super easy to follow. You explained it exactly the way I was wanting to hear it! I've been trying to study the similarities in rhythm patterns and structures in music around world (most recently African 2/3 polyrhythms) and have always been fascinated by how complex rhythms everywhere can be broken down into subdivisions or groupings of 2s & 3s.
Weknow it is very good but we came here to actually learn how to play, not to listen to good music. If we just wanted to listen we would listen elsewhere
Chugging on the E string for rhythm, similar to Metallica riffs, only they have distorted guitars. Some wayfaring traveler in the past taught me a gypsy scale & some chords to create with, I forgot the intervals, but at the time it was really a great lesson for me.
Murat Keyder I don't think it's a bot. I think it's because you've called a part of the eastern european folk music "gypsy rhythm". Honestly it's a bit offensive calling the Balkan nations gypsies.
Hi just found your videos and wow they are absolutely incredible. I see its a long time since you posted anything, but if u ever feel like putting something up again you definitely have a devoted follower in me. Hope this comment finds you good, and thanks again.
You are amazing. I've followed you for years. I have a Bachelor of Music Composition and would love to get formal lessons from you one day. Well done!! ... please give me lessons!!!
Amazing playing! Great style, great talent! I'd like to learn it :) Do you have the tabs? Do you make bendings on the frets to make these nice Turkish effects on the notes?
Great authentic playing and great instruction, if you made a dvd/ book cd etc - I'd buy it. The only minor criticism I have is, it would have been beneficial to know the tuning of the guitar and the scale ( Is it Phrygian dom, I thought maybe something else ). It would be worth stating it at the start of each vid. Otherwise, really, really good -loved it!!
hey thanks for the video very informative and easy to follow. Ive recently been getting into balkan music do you think you could possible post a video of different ornaments and trill type stuff?

I think the title was kinda meant to include their presence in Balkan, Turkish, AND “gypsy”/Romani cultures. In which case, Bulgaria would be included because it is part of the Balkans.
I would say the best way is to listen to music from that part of the world and try to drum along. The concept is pretty simple but it takes practice to follow it under a complex melody.
Tip: start by playing to grab people's attention then explain and break it into pieces

Somewhere an elderly Balkan man is mad that you are giving away his secrets.
it is not just the gipsy rhythms, but also the national folklore rhythms. great job!

Man he is turkish but living in the West.
Hey, big fan of your videos. What scale are you playing??
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. Thanks for putting this together. I can't believe I only just came across your video, really great.
Thank you thank you=)
Could you put tabs for the scale you're using?
Looks like Phrygian dominant scale to me but I’m not sure
Its E phrgian dominant minor
@@osmanaliman2121 I'm still new to music, does dominant in this case mean that E Phrygian is the fifth?
@@Sam-qc6sz I am not so sure but I am familiar with E dominant minor so I am sure it is
@@Sam-qc6sz it's the same as the harmonic minor, but starting in a different note.

Where did all these dislikes come from?!
Someone unleashed a dislike bot on me. They all came in one day from Vietnam and Romania. I have a mystery enemy=)
Murat Keyder
They're probably jealous, haha :D
Murat Keyder Im sorry about that :( Those jerks!

Thanks man! This was super helpful.

This is just what I've been looking for. Do you have any good resource suggestions for learning complex rhythms?
An EXTREMELY difficult concept, moving the thumb on the bas string and playing the melody with two fingers. I tried but surrendered just now.
Very good thank you man
great ! I will buy your book
Great lessons. Please, if you can, make a lesson on balkan and oriental ornaments.
Putting the accents on the one cleared up so much.
Oh hell yeah, that looks so fun. I need a guitar.
Beautiful!!!!

Are there any names you can give so I can find the tabs online? I really like this kind of music
Excellent info. Can't help but think of Mark Sandman from Morphine as I watch the video.
Wow thanks always wanted to understand this.. how can i deepen my knowlage in odd rythams?
I would say the best way is to listen to music from that part of the world and try to drum along. The concept is pretty simple but it takes practice to follow it under a complex melody.

thanks, can u make them?:P(rhythm 5 only so i can figure upthe pattern cuz i like ur style, and am looking forward to play it correctly:))
Is this standard tuning? Are actually turkish yourself?!
yeah I'm planning on making one on those...
