Hi, I passed my test today at Tolworth with three minors! It would not have been possible without watching all of your videos for the past two weeks so thank you so much for the help.
31:13 Serious kudos to Richard for being so direct and genuine here. I find people like Samir seriously intimidating and I’m in awe of Richard just telling him how it is and not shying away from telling him the truth.
@@binepivk4196 How? He's simply saying their attitude is intimidating did you even watch the video, I'm sure he'll be less intimidated by you attaching a label to him as "xenophobic".
As a road examiner, I was polite but direct unless the situation was dangerous to the point of prison as a possibility, in which case I was blunt. (Had someone drive the wrong way in a construction zone. If they hit a worker, prison.) Doesn’t help anyone if they don’t know what they did wrong. If someone tried to intimidate me, I just withdrew and took the next hour to write every last detail of the test. Bosses backed me every time I had to resort to writing a narrative.
Passed my test today first time with 3 minors. Watching these mock test videos have been a massive help in getting ready to take my practical test. Also thanks to any drivers that have appeared in your content, they're very brave for putting themselves out there and it is appreciated.
As a retired flight examiner, I found this video quite interesting. My takeaway was that Samir needs considerably more time to establish a better relationship a) with the vehicle and its controls and b) with general situational awareness. Good debrief. I was reminded that in flight tests, younger candidates had flexibility in their aircraft handling and listened to debrief items. Older candidates tended to be more anxious and tense and often would not react positively to constructive suggestions as to how to improve.
He drives like a Romanian. There's a certain expectation that you will be able to drive and know most of what you need to know about cars by the time you're 18 if you're a man. Some people are surprised or even disappointed if you don't have a license by 20. Cars are a national cult in Romania, and probably generally in eastern Europe. Looking at him i just know he felt some of that pressure and it's probably why he took the risk of driving without a license back home. Feeling that peer pressure makes you rush a little and skip the learning process, you forget you're a learner and act like you already have 5 years experience minimum. It's why i needed 10 extra hours of driving just to stop rushing as if some Bucharest taxi driver would honk me for whatever reason.
Nice to see other country's driving teaching and driving tests. In my country they don't even teach the handbrake hill start anymore, they say: "House moms from the 70'S drive like that." They teach us exactly that same method Samir is using. Brake and clutch down - clutch to bite, as to the point where the car would hold without the brakes - add gas smoothly. Same as backing up, it’s done with using mirrors, not looking back like they used to teach me in Spain years ago.
Found this very helpful! I am also a rushed driver at times so seeing someone who does similar mistakes as I do really helped me see this objectively! Hope he will pass his test! :)
If you're banned from driving in Romania, and you do a mock driving test anywhere else in Europe, it's pretty much a given that you'll fail. It's not that he's an innately bad driver, he just needs a ton of help with the basics, hazard awareness and so on. It's hard to know if you're a bad driver, until you realize you are.

Samir, A lot of driving today, is actually thinking for other Drivers. You have to get the car ready for the change of situation. I know you looked at the roundabout, but you were too fast. Get off the clutch! Let the engine help the brake and put the clutch down to stop the car stalling. Good Luck with your driving.
It's an interesting point where you thought he hadn't looked when he had. When I was learning and for my test, I made all my observations much more obvious than they would appear now because if the examiner didn't see it, it didn't happen. I normally wear sunglasses for driving but didn't for my test so that the examiner would be able to tell that I was looking in my mirrors. Move your head, not just your eyes and make sure you're looking early enough to be able to comfortably react to what you might see!
The point was he didn't look before he was committed to entering due to his speed. So although he looked before crossing the line, he didn't look before he could no longer stop safely by the line. I can't remember every detail but I do know his check was not sufficient at the mini roundabout and that's the mental note I made.
@ConquerDriving Yeah. No point looking at the stage where you'd be unable to respond to what you see. "Oh look! A lorry coming from the right! Shame it's about to hit my car."
@@SeanVlismas Exactly, but I shouldn't say he didn't look before the line unless I'm sure that's what happened. He has passed now though, this video was filmed 6 weeks ago.
@@ConquerDriving I point out to my learners that when the roundabout is open ahead with no potential blockers approaching, you need more consideration to the right because vehicles to the right won't be planning to stop. You get this a lot at T-junction mini roundabouts. To the learner it looks open but the danger is what you cannot see to the right until you're almost on the roundabout, which is why we need to slow down so much before deciding to proceed.
21:07 He might have been looking at the tachometer here because it was roughly halfway between 10 and 20 x100 RPMs. But that's wrong, the tacho measures how fast your engine is spinning and not your speed.
wait, I thought not checking blindspot at all after emergency stop is an instant fail (serious fault)? Checking just one side is minor but he didn't check any
Personally I don't agree with it being a fail because it doesn't feel like a genuine emergency stop when you've been instructed to do so under safe conditions; when the road is clear. And in your normal driving position it feels like a normal traffic stop when moving off if that makes sense. But yes I believe it's a fail because you're meant to act as if it's an emergency scenario. Same with observations when reversing in an empty carpark you've just entered (imagine busy carpark). Edit: Richard has responded above me as I was typing this reply, keep in mind not every examiner is the same as he said in the vid. I basically failed for going the wrong way for example.. (reply if u wanna know more)
@windroid_user It's not uncommon for another person to show up either from round the corner or out a side entrance when you've done an emergency stop. That's why it's important to check still. Empty car parks have their own host of possible dangers in comparison to busy areas: it's more common for other drivers to cut through bays (and to do so at higher speed). In a similar vein, driving at night might be quiet, but the people you do encounter are often going faster and likely are more tired and unengaged with safe driving.
@@user-mv5zt8qd9l For sure, FYI I am imagining a nice visible straight road with no nearby junctions & side entrances for the emergency stop. And driving to the back of an empty car park where you carry out the reverse park exercise against a fence/hedge shortly after stopping (so you'd be checking behind at an area you saw while going forward a few moments ago). In both those scenarios you could say the risk is quite low, but in no way am I saying or ignoring the fact that there's NO risk and that it's not worth checking by doing proper observations.
I think the entire country of Romania needs driving lessons like this. Suffice to say, 99% of drivers would completely fail a UK mock test, as there is no such concept of 'do not make other drivers break' or 'look in the mirrors before you signal' or, dare I say, keep within the speed limit and drive peacefully.
We learn in driving school about these and get marked down on the exam if we do them so it’s a matter of not caring. I doubt everyone in uk that already got their license drives like they are still taking their mock tests. Not saying it’s a good thing but it’s just how it is

14:36 Don't agree that this is a minor fault. He had an HGV oncoming that was provably 2 feet away from the centre line and when he pulled out you can clearly see his car has to straddle the lanes, if anything he's further over the other of the road. That would mean an extremely limited space on both sides of his car while passing the lorry and I think a minor for his positioning prior to this or waiting is unnecessary. Even with the cars, they have to hug the kerb as they pass when he pulls out. Ideally you want to leave a metre of room between parked cars and your car and not have to encroach onto opposite lanes.
I’ve just come back from a Danube river cruise that started in Romania, the drive on a minibus from the airport at Bucharest to the port was interesting if not challenging. The driver knew what he was doing and kept us safe but driving there did seem fast and furious and not much respect for other drivers it seemed. Know it’s different in each country but I did observe some very aggressive driving.
Is your SEAT by any chance a badge engineered VW jetta? I ask because I just bought a 2020 VW Jetta and 90% of the interior details are identical, aside from badging
Lots of standing on the clutch and coasting when approaching and on turns. I also noticed that on uphill sections he shifts up too early and doesn't shift down when the engine already struggles.
To be honest, to all these people in the comments saying he’s a bad man, it’s just classic British judgement to anyone who can’t speak like them. It’s clearly a communication and culture barrier.
yes you’re spot on, he’s seems like a good guy, but he doesn’t look like his attitude so that’s probably why and people should consider the frustration that can arise when you’re failing over and over again
It is concerning if he cannot read road signs though. OK if he knows the symbols, bit if not the words that could be an issue - e.g. realise he's going wrong way and suddenly change direction
I've never been in a car that couldn't hold itself just by half releasing the clutch and I've driven a lot of older cars. What I usually do is release the clutch slowly until the engine sound changes and the front of the car lift up, then release the brake and add gas until it starts moving and I slowly lift the clutch. Does that work in all cars, or did I just not drive old enough cars?
i contest the emergency stop being a minor....it should of been a serious fault that he didnt just not check the left but also the right, can you please explain this decision?
Was given to understand that dvsa regarded both clutch and neutral coasting as a gear fault not clutch? (Clutch faults only harsh release and forgetting to press it down so stalling?)
First of all, thanks for the brilliant videos! I've got my driving license back in 2003 in Turkey but as the UK government doesn't accept it here i'll have to take all exams from the beginning 😒 My question is I have two habits as a 20+ years driver. One of them is, I just rest my foot on the clutch most of the time and i steer with one hand when turning or making a manoeuvre. Are they a fault? Btw my driving test is in November 😬 Thanks in advance 👍
Banned in Romania, he can't read, which theoretically means he can't write either, at least in English. Yet, he's pursuing a driver's license. Absolutely fantastic mate.
Its quite common in Romania sadly. Mainly amongst his.. "people". I wont mention them by name as youtube removes comments for everything these days. Many of them get their licenses and cant event read/write
Gods I am wondering if I would pass a British driving exam. I only started driving stick this summer after 27y of driving automatics and 4y and 4 TBIs as a road examiner.
This happened on my test too where i sped up too much before the speed limit sign, at the end she said the sign was in a stupid place but she gave me a minor mark for it, I think I was quite far over the current speed limit.
Hello there! Just an observation from this video that the clutch was first pressed before the brake pedal - time @7:10 ruclips.net/video/mzo3RPXsGGE/видео.html In my opinioin, it's safer to do the other way, brake pedal first to press slowly then clutch to change the gear. Cheers!
you can use any car you like in the test. if u had a car that u just press a button and it parallel parks on its own, and in a test the examiner says do a parallel park, and you press the button and it parks itself and u dont even touch the wheeel, thats allowed (given u still did all the necessary blindspot mirror checks etc). you would still pass as long as u didnt mess up another part of the test. idk where u r from but in the uk students often use the instructors car in the test
I can see why he failed his test. Way to erratic and overall poor basic skills. I would not put a pupil forward for a test based on this level of driving
I'm not sure if he had taken driving lessons in Romania, but most Romanians can relate to their driving instructor telling them to only use the clutch move off from a standstill. The car in this video seems to also be a diesel (correct me if I'm wrong), which helped with the extra torque on the hill starts and in low RPMs.
It took me way too long before I learned not to coast through corners. It feels more comfortable to just use the momentum of the car to keep it going, rather than the engine pulling you along, so I feel it is a natural thing to do.
He's not Romanian. Most likley from an Arab country. Also you don't mess with the Romanian police. 😅 He may not be able to read, because he may use a different alfabet...so the people that judge him, probably never traveled further than their local town. He will eventually pass it.

Man, banning someone from having a license because he drove without one is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. If someone wants to drive for whatever reason, he will. Banning him from getting a license will only extend his illegal driving. Plus, depending on what he did, it would literally help if he was just given a ticket and have the car picked up by someone with license, as now he has a but of an incentive to get a license. Now if it was someone who was driving dangerously ( very high speeds, cutting people off, running red lights, etc.) Then sure, ban him from driving for a half a decade. But if he is much younger then this guy, say 16 to 19, then just ban him for 2 years. He is almost guaranteed to change so it is just idiotic to do more than that.
Yeah, i agree this is just stupid. There in Cyprus we have a driving ban for getting caught driving without a licence. The fun part is to get a licence you need a residency permit. The plastic one printed. And if you have it for a year - you will probably get it within 6 months. Meaning you live half of the year without being able to pass driving test. So i was lucky i planned starting to learn the moment i got my visa and completed everything before expiry, but i know many people who are even ready to pass the exam but no visa printed yet/appointments for exam are up to like February next year

Passed yesterday, thank you!
Congratulations on passing!
As a general rule (for me anyway); if the car is moving it should be in gear.
I thought not checking the blind spots after an emergency stop was a serious fault and not a minor fault.
I have a certain feeling Samir is a bit of a speed demon, and that is the reason his license was revoked in Romania. If he ever had one.
😂😂😂😂
17:00 mini roundabout was that a minor or serious? He was lucky to have a shield but not checking the right at all feels more major
This was by far the scariest mock driving test in this channel.
Put your hand to your eyes😅😅😅😅
I’ve just come back from a Danube river cruise that started in Romania, the drive on a minibus from the airport at Bucharest to the port was interesting if not challenging. The driver knew what he was doing and kept us safe but driving there did seem fast and furious and not much respect for other drivers it seemed. Know it’s different in each country but I did observe some very aggressive driving.
It's the country with the most fatalities in the European Union
Just passed today, its way easier than you can think, just dont let emotions take over and dont think that youve failed
Is your SEAT by any chance a badge engineered VW jetta? I ask because I just bought a 2020 VW Jetta and 90% of the interior details are identical, aside from badging
My SEAT Leon is very similar to the Golf, A3 and Octavia. Also the Jetta.
Love this guys accent lol 😂
Lots of standing on the clutch and coasting when approaching and on turns. I also noticed that on uphill sections he shifts up too early and doesn't shift down when the engine already struggles.
i dont think id be able to control my laughter at the roleplaying 🤣
To be fair to him, he was probably distracted by his own watch.
Interesting to think that if your instructor had a new car you’re more likely to pass due to the driving assists than in an old car
True but when you pass and you buy your own car you have to use common sense when doing stuff like bay parking, parallel etc
Tough gig. Is Jason working at a different test centre now?
😂 Not to the best of my knowledge
We've all been there Samir:) some of us just escape uncaught:)) the jurisdiction in Romania is hard , don't ask me how I know it 😅
To be honest, to all these people in the comments saying he’s a bad man, it’s just classic British judgement to anyone who can’t speak like them. It’s clearly a communication and culture barrier.
yes you’re spot on, he’s seems like a good guy, but he doesn’t look like his attitude so that’s probably why and people should consider the frustration that can arise when you’re failing over and over again
Give the guy a break typical British attitude judging accent with bit more help he will be fine.
I mate, he’s simply a poor and unsafe driver
The comments you're referencing are both by non-British people lmao
It is concerning if he cannot read road signs though. OK if he knows the symbols, bit if not the words that could be an issue - e.g. realise he's going wrong way and suddenly change direction
I've never been in a car that couldn't hold itself just by half releasing the clutch and I've driven a lot of older cars. What I usually do is release the clutch slowly until the engine sound changes and the front of the car lift up, then release the brake and add gas until it starts moving and I slowly lift the clutch. Does that work in all cars, or did I just not drive old enough cars?
Doesnt work in all cars, typically old cars. I know that there are some sports cars that dont allow that as well
There are plenty of cars that struggle and stalling is more likely in most cars without gas. All cars have some power at tick over but they vary.
There's probably a milimeter of bite in my buddy's 08 Focus before it just immediately stalls without gas.
i contest the emergency stop being a minor....it should of been a serious fault that he didnt just not check the left but also the right, can you please explain this decision?
Thank you Pastor
My question is , how he will gone pass the theory test if he can't read?
You can get assistance as part of the test process i.e. a reader/scribe

A ban for 5 years in Romania does not count in the UK in the same way as the ban in the UK does not count in other EU countries. Am I right?
Is he not coasting whilst going round corners ? Wouldn’t that be marked in the test ?
15:45, he also knew he was too fast there🥶
😊😊😅
This happened on my test too where i sped up too much before the speed limit sign, at the end she said the sign was in a stupid place but she gave me a minor mark for it, I think I was quite far over the current speed limit.
Hello there! Just an observation from this video that the clutch was first pressed before the brake pedal - time @7:10 ruclips.net/video/mzo3RPXsGGE/видео.html In my opinioin, it's safer to do the other way, brake pedal first to press slowly then clutch to change the gear. Cheers!
Definitely gonna be either an Audi or BMW driver.
What i don't understand is why they are using a car which has a computer that helps with the clutch and gas pedal?
you can use any car you like in the test. if u had a car that u just press a button and it parallel parks on its own, and in a test the examiner says do a parallel park, and you press the button and it parks itself and u dont even touch the wheeel, thats allowed (given u still did all the necessary blindspot mirror checks etc). you would still pass as long as u didnt mess up another part of the test. idk where u r from but in the uk students often use the instructors car in the test
Hi Richard. How to book for the mock test????
I’ve never chuckled so quickly before
I can see why he failed his test. Way to erratic and overall poor basic skills.
I would not put a pupil forward for a test based on this level of driving
He has actually passed the driving test a few days after this mock test. Which means he just needed to fix some mistakes.
-Are you nervous?
Yes
-Try and calm down
Thanks mate 😂
I'm not sure if he had taken driving lessons in Romania, but most Romanians can relate to their driving instructor telling them to only use the clutch move off from a standstill. The car in this video seems to also be a diesel (correct me if I'm wrong), which helped with the extra torque on the hill starts and in low RPMs.
No this car is a turbopetrol but it has start assist which automatically adds gas when moving off to prevent the car from stalling
2:33 Hello Arthur!
Is it not handbrake then neutral?
Love video
❤😂
Fascinating. The main take away for me is there's good money in barbershops these days - nice wristwatch. Did he pay you in cash?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
It took me way too long before I learned not to coast through corners. It feels more comfortable to just use the momentum of the car to keep it going, rather than the engine pulling you along, so I feel it is a natural thing to do.
Not checking the blindspots after an emergency stop is a serious not a minor isn’t it?
If it lead to a serious issue then it would be a serious mark. But he got lucky on this occasion.
Therefore to be on safe side, do not skip on checking blindspots etc before move off@@ConquerDriving
