- During my travels, I realize the important thing is not where you're going, it's getting there safely. After hearing a noise while driving, I end up in a country garage before it was too late. Not only did I avoid disaster, but I also got a tip for a really neat local spot!

A good mechanic is worth his weight in gold.
or hers, but don't bite my head off
My husband and my father are both ASE master mechanics. They are amazing and do incredibly tough jobs! Just change your own spark plugs to teach yourself how amazing mechanics can be.
Thanks to the great people of Kentucky for helping Slim.✌️🇺🇸👏👏👏
Kentucky people are wonderful. Great state
A garage in Kentucky playing ACDC nahhh…..never seen that before lol
Love Kentucky!
Loved Kentucky the best!
Especially the food.
@@maybee... fried chicken?
Wow Slim, you were lucky that they took you on right away. Edwards Garage certainly deserved a mention and glad you were sorted and on your way. Good for them. Nice to see that honesty still reigns in this modern world
As a trucker I thank you for the kind thoughts. It's nice knowing some people appreciate the truckers still!
I keep my eyes peeled for your little egg camper and jeep! Safe travels!
I learned to appreciate truckers long ago, on the Alaska Hiway. 👍🇨🇦😎
My husband and I always change lanes so they can pass us safely.
Nice that he let you into the bay to demonstrate how to check the bearing! I love old fashioned, independent mechanics. They are getting hard to find.
Over thirty years ago on a family trip to an amusement park our fuel pump went out. Always prepared I called the 800 number for a dealership right down the road. "It's Friday night we're closing for the weekend." 😢 Now what? A car full of kids, out of state and stuck in a hotel room. I called around and a local garage agreed to tow our vehicle and promised to look at it first thing in the morning. Not holding out much hope we played the waiting game. They called the next day before ten and offered to pick me up. They couldn't have been nicer, and practically cheered my arrival. I guess my frantic tearful plea had struck a chord. I was amazed and very grateful for their fantastic service. The big company had let me down, but the local garage went above and beyond.
I bet lots of people have a story of kindness and good auto service while traveling. I know I do, and I'm glad you and Slim brought it to mind. Bless you, Pronto Auto Repair of El Paso TX.
That service man seems so nice!
If the mechanic watched this episode, THANKS for the suggesting the ‘World’s Shortest Stream.’ Those are things I like and assume most viewers here do to! And thanks to Slim for another informative video!
Another great post Slim!! I have been saved a few times by truckers warning traffic of highway patrol ahead, and have followed them through snow storms/blizzards. Those tail lights can be mighty beacons out on the road. And have seen them lined up for miles on highway 40 going in and coming from Albuquerque, NM. They run the highways so we can have our fresh fruit, veggies, etc. Thanks Slim and Truckers for making my day!
My family doesn't understand why I drive with no music on. I tell them: it's my time to meditate, have a conversation with myself and be keenly aware of everything around me, all at the same time. Thanks for the validation Slim!
As a Kentuckian I am so happy we did right by you, Slim. Thank you for appreciating our humble state. ❤
SLIM YOU ARE ALWAYS POSITIVE AND FIND JOY AND HAPPINESS IN EVERY TURN MORE BLESSINGS TO YOU
really cool you showed the guy in the rural garage. Great that he was okay with you filming him. I have had really good luck with rural garages. People are friendly, helpful, and know the business.
Happy for you getting the bearing fixed in such a timely way. And I can understand why the church does baptisms there. Immersion in 52-degree water will shock the devil out of anyone!
My husband and I REALLY appreciate your videos! The waterfalls are beautiful! Thank you for showing beautiful scenes. I can tell you appreciate nature like we do.
Yup, its all about listening to a vehicle. Hats off to the mechanics!!! 👍🇨🇦😎⭐
Thanks for the shout-out Slim 👍 UK trucker here
Always enjoy your videos! Best wishes
Hello there! ❤ Didn't even watch the 1st 5 minutes of the video and I can relate. I'm a professional driver I drive 9 hours A-day it is terrifying. It's so scary out there. You Never. Know These people's emotional state or what they're going through and why they are in such a hurry...
Crazy drivers, the accident I have seen in South Florida, so sad.
No matter how much you tell them To put that darn phone down they don't.
Hello there!
Wow!! What a beautiful hidden gem there in Kentucky 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, Slim, thanks
That noise sounds like the soundtrack to an awesome 1960s sci fi movie.
Please stay safe!! Glad you got it fixed. THANK YOU EDWARDS GARAGE!!!!!! ❤ wow love that creek. THANK YOU TRUCKERS!! WITHOUT YOU WE HAVE NOTHING!!!! FROM THE TINIEST THING TO THE LARGEST..THEY BRING IT
KY and WV is prime real estate for cave systems due to our abundance of limestone!
I have worried about you losing your bearings. I'm glad fate led you to an honest mechanic. This video goes on the short creek list.
At least I had a paddle!
I'm so glad you got the Jeep fixed before a lot worse happened! And Edward gave you a great tip! That place looks like a blast to explore! Very cool!
Glad you got your bearings replaced and good on you for thanking truckers and for one telling you your light was out. Happy driving.
At least with noisy wheel bearings it's not going to go bad immediately. After you start hearing the noise, you can normally wait until you get to the next town. You can also hear a bearing when it just starts to go bad when you make sharp turns and the weight shifts on and off of it.
Yes, shout out to the truckers. They hold up America (and everywhere else)!
Let them pass, they're bigger than you!
I have passed within 1/4 mile of that short creek about 10 times over the last 10 years and never knew it was there! I will definitely be taking a look at it this summer. Thank you, Slim.
My dad was a country mechanic. They don't have the required 4 hours to pay per part u put on. I always thought it is crazy to have a set number of hours to do a job. It cost what it cost at the rural mechanics.
Amen - to the shout out for the truck drivers. They deserve our respect.
Great ear for car maintenance! Truly saved your own and possibly someone else's life.Maybe that's all your vehicle will need, suspension type of things, instead of engine or transmission parts and labor.
Thank you for mentioning the service garage that gave u good service
Slim, that short creek is stunning, along with your videography skills.😊 I'm glad you noticed your tire issue and got the repair. Safe travels!
Finding friends along the journey is the best part of travel. From the garage fixing you up and sharing a local beauty spot to the good sam trucker keeping you safe. Travel light and be safe.
Thank you for praising the truckers, for I'm retired. I spent over 45 yrs on the road.
It will be sad if your Jeep must leave; however, as you said, safety must come first. I'm glad you found an honest and helpful mechanic.
The car carrier truckers must be extra special. About number of years ago, I was on my way home back to Ottawa with muy mom after having taken her to see her sister in NYC. I was travelling at the posted speed of 65 when my front passenger side tire blew out. Talk about one of those events that could cause you to need a new pair of underwater! So I get out my jack and tire iron, and attempt to loosen the lug nuts on the tire before jacking it up to change the tire...and they were not turning. I could stand on the iron, and it wouldn't move. While I was struggling with this, an empty car carrier pulled up just ahead of my van and the driver got out and came over and basically said that this was a dangerous stretch of the interstate, and he could see I was struggling with it, so he said, "Let me do it, I can do it faster than you can because I do it all the time." I said "Sure, thank you!" So he went back to his cab, pulled out a few tools and came back. He was not as fast as a F-1 pit crew, but he did have the tire changed in under 5 minutes. I profously thanked him and my mom tried to give him some money, which he refused. And then we were off on our way to try and find a tire shop as the space saver spare is not a safe way to complete the few hundred miles left in our trip.
Glad you found a reputable mechanic when you needed one. Love that little creek and waterfall/rapids.
Woolwax or fluid film for your undercarriage slim. It's not a paint or rubber that traps even more moisture. It's the natural oil made from sheep's wool (Lanolin wax). It stays fluid so it creeps well and blocks off oxygen. Will stop any rust you have currently in its tracks. I live in upstate NY with ton of road salt and its stop rust in its tracks. Love the videos!!
Edwards Garaje ......... Thank you for keeping Slim on the road !!!!!!!!!!!!
Nap time the scenes @ the shortest lake is very calming… Safe travels.
Save the sound for Alien sound effects for future sneak in's on vids! We all learn from others mishaps, so thanks for sharing your trials.
Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly!
The short creek is beautiful!😊
the short creek was an interesting fact to find on your travels, and then you also got the truck wheel bearing fixed for what you said a reasonable price, so this was a nice find. nice video. Most truckers are good people. I like to travel by them on the roads, they are great to be behind at night as they shine the light more on the dark roads.
Hi Slim. Keep the videos coming. I just love them. By the way....Hello from Nova Scotia.
Slim, I get the same way when I’m traveling I worry about the other drivers and I’m always glued to the road watching for problems, that’s why I try to travel small two lane roads instead of major interstates and as a added bonus you get to see real America and meet some wonderful people.
That’s a great find…
I'm sorry you had car issues. Being careful is the most important thing. The world's shortest creek was beautiful. The trees and caves around it were wonderful. We live in a wonderful 🌎. Take care of yourself and be safe.
I love truckers, they are awesome
Truly a sensible advice to not listen music and other things that might distract - modern cars are so much full of displays and such that you better be aware all time for distracted drivers...
Hi Slim glad you got the car fix and it wasn't any worse, it's beautiful there by the water, thanks for sharing stay safe
Definitely want to listen for new, strange noises, which is telling you something. Lucky, lucky you, that the shop had a replacement bearing on hand. And you got a bonus tip of an interesting place to visit.
When daylight starts getting dim, or if it's foggy, rainy, or starting to snow, I always make a point of tucking in behind an 18-wheeler & then get off the road at the first opportunity.
Kindest Regards from Reno, Nevada
Good afternoon from Godley Texas, glad to see there are still honest mechanics willing to help strangers. Great find on the hidden stream. Your videos are always amazing. Stay safe and happy travels 😎
We are heading to Godley Sunday!! Our son lives there.
@@deekelley891 small world indeed, I'm actually outside of Godley near Sky Rd and FM 1004
Hi Slim from New Brunswick. Have you ever lowered the spare tire on your Jeep ? Over time the system can get rusted to the point that you need a grinder or cutting torch to get it free. Just a thought. Have a great trip. Tom
Was just thinking the same thing, I've also heard good things about fluid film being a good rust preventative, never tried my self though as all my vehicles came undercoated.
Nice to know they’re still good people out there. 😊
Being a Kentucky native I had never heard of Shortcreek. Now I know. It's beautiful. Thanks Slim/
Having a common vehicle makes part of easy repair possible.
Good people left
No review of the camp ground??!! I agree, small town mechanics are the best. I have required their services from Rocky Harbour, Nfld. to Watson Lake, Yukon to Inuvik, North-West Territories. The most helpful people for those of us on the road. No matter what the preparation on the road worthiness of your vehicle something will inevitably malfunction along the way. Safe travels.
If I were 40 years younger, I'd grab a flashlight and explore those caves on the creek! Nice place to stop for sure.
In Britain, most garages would recommend that though only one wheel bearing had failed, you should really replace both sides.
It's not uncommon for the passenger-side of vehicles to take the most abuse, as the road is typically worse near the edge. SP
Not needed whatsoever. But I can see why a garage would advise that. The number one rule in car repair is that anything you can add to the repair bill, no matter how small, is icing on the cake. I
Loved the video, Slim! Especially the part on the world’s smallest creek. It was beautiful. Your cinematography is outstanding! Thank you
Good country people honest hard working backbone of America!
I LOVE your adventures. You've inspired me and my family to explore a little bit more
Slam is a stable force in an unstable world…😂Thanks Slim! Love all your vids!!!😊
The running water sound was amazing, I loved it, a very nice places for a picnic 😁
That Mr. Edwards really gave you a great tip for a pretty nice spot to look at. Beautiful!
Your cat and dog comments are imaginatively hilarious
I agree, I'm always listening for odd noises too. And always scanning, in front of me to the sides of the roads and behind me.even in the fields , watching for deer and other things.
Wow! That was a beautiful spot. I am so glad you found a good mechanic to fix your vehicle.
Thank you for the shout out. Trucker here. Please buy stuff. We need the work :)
You're one of the best, Slim. You're thoughtful and with purpose. I appreciate your being you. ❤ From Illinois
Hi Slim, I thought you would have mentioned the garage for their service to your jeep, but even towing a lightweight Camper will put a strain on the towing vehicle, safe travels 🇬🇧🇬🇧
I did mention the garage. Edward's Garage. SP
He did , Edwards Garage". Slim said it more than once
@@SlimPotatohead I do apologise, I didn't hear it.
Good video Slim, beautiful state Kentucky, lots to see and great history.
That creek was great! Nice hidden spot. I must say I believe it is spring water feed. That is why it is that color and has the year round temp. Almost thought I was in Texas hill country for a minute.
Talking about making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. You did that. Very nice pictures.
Glad to hear a good experience with the mechanic!
It's nice when you stumble across an auto garage 1:27 that doesn't take advantage of you because you are a stranger and / or tourist
Good on you for the shout outs 😅
😅😅
Wow, that cave ledge area looked small until you walked down there and stood in comparison. Its massive! Camera shots like that make all the difference.
Great videos, my kid sister was born in Kentucky and still lives there. Liked the video, and enjoyed seeing the worlds shortest creek.
Thanks Slim for the advice of turning off the radio and listening to the vehicle. While I love listening to music, it’s a good idea to turn it off regularly.
Safe travels. I hope to someday meet you and thank you personally for sharing your journey with me and my wife. Safe travels, and peace be with you!
By the way we went from an Aliner to a fiberglass trailer like you. Except we went a little fancier, Escape 21C.
I couldn't travel for hundreds or thousands of miles without music, but I might not have heard my wheel bearing going out until it was too late. Good advice.
Yay! Another KY video! Love my state. Great people, beautiful sites. 💕
Excellent video again! Lov your stuff! Stay safe.
4:55 - WOW !!! That is shocking, how much that wheel moves.
It's always nice when you can find a honest mechanic. Slim as for your surface rust, I have been using Fluid Film on my Wrangler for 2 1/2 years. I have no rust under the Jeep, living in NY with the road salt.
Great reminders to keep our tow vehicle well maintained, and to always be on the lookout (earout? ) for something developing. No matter what tow vehicle you have, there is always something lurking to surprise you. As always, safe travels...
Enjoy your videos and its great that you share the repair issues that could become Major if left unattended. Its good info for all travelers.. I'm a retired big rig driver with a 2 million mile safety record - commerative watch as a souvenir of my career. For the most part CDL drivers are the best.
Love KY as that was my family's home state but I grew up in Southern OH. I love all of my great country but that mid west section holds such fond memories.
Happy Trails
from NM
Pretty cool. Nice editing and composition. Very enjoyable.
Hey Slim! Hello and thumbs UP! 👍, now on to watch the video!
Was recently in Kentucky. Folks were really nice in the areas we visited. Love your exploring Slim. Glad it was a quick fix for the Jeep.
Safe travels to you as well Slim Potatohead! Happy Fathers Day! Have a week as wonderful as you! I will be on the lookout for you.
Thanks for another great video Slim!
Safe travels to you as well Slim 🌴👍👍😎🌴
Truly enjoy watching your travels and your narration, thank you.
Next vehicle should be a Toyota. My 2005 Tacoma just passed 345k miles and no issues, well maintained, they last forever ! Safe travels!
I agree Toyota's are the best. But, who can afford them now a days?
Also Rav4, 4Runner
I sadly 😥 have to strongly 💯 % agree with you, and I hope Slim will do some research, Jeeps 🚙 ain't like they used to be. But Cheap Chinese Unit 🐻 Bearings🐻❄ are Hit and Miss. But the jeep has served you pretty well......high from the n.w corner of Oregon.. land of green algae
Very well done video SP. I'm with you...I pay full attention to the road too...no radio, etc...the road is unpredictable. Safe travels SP.👍
It isn't the roads. It's the drivers that are hell bent on getting where they want to go no matter what the consequences.
Noticed the Horse and buggy in the beginning. FYI in Kentucky is the Noah Ark replica. Gotta love good ole locals.
Good afternoon Slim! Highway driving .... I love it. It's the rush hour, city driving that I don't like. My key to successful driving (to date) is never give up your right of way and never trust the other drivers.
Being unwilling to "give up your space" these days can make you a victim of road rage.
Another great episode. Glad to see you found a great garage to get your vehicle fixed.
Many thanks
David in the UK
That was great finding a good machanic to get you fixed up fast at a reasonable price. Stay safe.
Hey Slim if you spray the bottom of your vehicle with linseed oil it protects against it rust. Old beach fishermen trick
Hats off to that great shop.
Sorry you had car trouble but so happy you got to see more of my home state. ❤
