Yes it was, but there's not much left from a mortar REALLY. Spigot mortar works a bit different than a "classic" mortar. And if you propel the grenade using spring tension, then it barely resembles a mortar. And that's what PIAT is. A spring operated spigot mortar. Mortar, but not a very "mortary" mortar.

Simple thing is it had a very low velocity compared to a Bazooka/Panzerfaust/Panzerschreck as it relied ona rod forcefully pushing it down the barrel and igniting a cartridge whihc proppeled the HEAT warhead towards the target compared to the rocket in the 3 aforementioned AT weapons. Advantages of this it being quieter, cheaper to replace the barrel and atleast in real life you could fire it from a building without burning or killing yourself with a rockets Backblast.

This concept of shooting ahead of or behind the target is actually accounted for very precisely in today’s modern artillery. The angle that you shift to account for the difference in vertical interval between you and the target is called the Angle of Site
tip: if you can..go for the high arc first and then the low arc both rounds should impact at the same time. I haven't tested but its the same principal that the MRSI (mulitple round simultaneous impact) systems of the Paladin self propelled howitzers use. So instead of 1 shot and then long reload...you may be able to get 2 impacts in a shorter window reducing the tank, sniper, group of enemies ability to react in time.
@Tentai, yes. Less time for sure but he's talking about where you make all rounds hit at the same time to give instakills. Reaction time to damage is kinda short, just look at your average quickscoping/dragshooting video. If you are hit by an explosion you are likely to change your direction or at least bug on out of there. Since the splash radius is small, a randomly moving target is an impossible target with the piat.

Spethman Jones airburst mortar in BF1 is shit these days tbh after the dmg nerfs over the lifespan of the game was a one hit kill back at Launch. But now IT takes like 2-3 rounds to kill ppl with it

You should try using Staghound upgraded with rockets, it can be used as rocket artillery devastating infantry from afar behind cover though you have to stay near a resuply station because you only have 4 rockets at time. It's especially good on Aerodrome. And it has huge damage radius and can almost destroy a Tiger in one run.
This is something I will be having a go at, hitting 3 mortars into an objective before rushing it will give the enemy something to think about. Ty for the info Sir jackfrags

another thing you can do, if you're reloading an mg and you have ammo pouch, press the ammo pouch button during the reload animation and you get full ammo without breaking the animation
Man, I was really missing the mortar these snipers are so damn pesky and keep dipping in and out of cover popping shots off no matter their health cause they can't be supressed.

For anyone trying this, I recommend doing it with a party chat 3 mortars and 1 recon, play on frontlines or conquest where you can build ammo stations close to capture points. The 3 mortar guys stay near ammo station and keep refueling while recon uses the binocular device/ flare to spot out enemies. (For those new to flares shoot into the sky for maximum effect). Was running this with some friends and it’s hilariously fun. You don’t get a crazy amount of kills but there’s some funny moments where you sometimes get quad or vehicle kills. Also I don’t know if jack mentioned this but the ammo station gives you 1 extra piat rocket for a total of three each time you refuel atm.
I'm not entirely sure why there is a smoke trail with it; however within the projectile there is a charge which assists the spring return when the projectile is launched. The PIAT is a heavy fucker, trust me... I've manhandled the thing more times than enough. If there was no charge; you would be priming the spring every time you use it.

Even if you don't kill your target it can bring some movement to the enemies because they normally try to change their positions. This often gives you new opportunities and can change the whole game. You still don't see many people playing with it because of the low damage and many players don't know that you can see your aiming on the minimap.
It's not really indirect, you still have to aim physically on the screen. It also doesn't always hit where you're aiming, and the lack of 3D spotting makes it not as easy to use.

Anybody using the launcher was essentially already doing this anyways, they were just eyeballing it and hoping to hit someone rather than using the map and marker that shows up.
This is reminiscent of something in BF1. Ammo packs (not the deployable bag) would instantly reload all rifle grenades so my group would occasionally run 4 medics with rifle grenades and 1 support with ammo packs. We'd all use the HE grenade due to it's large damage radius, near instantaneous detonation, and effectiveness against vehicles. Incredible area denial; much better than mortars once you were on target since you could put out a steady stream of them indefinitely. This was also around the time that the landship's armor was bugged and deflecting everything, but HE grenades couldn't be deflected. We almost pissed ourselves laughing when we first saw how fast a landship melted under a steady barrage of 4 HE rifle grenadiers.
This weapon/gadget looks soooo fun I know my deaths are gonna go up as soon as I’ve unlocked it😂 but without this video I’d of never saw the map addition so thanks👌🏼👍🏼
the level mechanic for mortars in BF4 was actually exactly the same. I used to take out snipers in hainan resort by basically aiming long to hit them on top of the roof. After you do it for a while you start being able to mentally estimate your aim points.

Just got the game, few hours in and it's very fun. More challenging than BF1 and the gunplay is great. Only issue is that lengthy animation when you bleed out. Other than that it's nice so far I like how it's harder to see enemies makes this game more competitive
Could make a potentially very effective indirect fire anti-tank squad with this, 3 guys with the piat and 1 with the recon spyglass to spot the tank, then all lob shots at it from behind cover.
0:28 PIAT is a rocket?? NO! It's a bloody projector! It's powered by a huge spring in the body of the weapon that most be cocked (with immense difficulty) before firing. It works like a massive nerf gun almost, but instead of a nerf dart it is a bomb with a HEAT warhead.
MRKN FORCE No, there is no explosive propellant in a PIAT. A PIAT is reloadable, something impossible with explosive propellant. It is a spring, cocked by extending the shoulder rest. You pull the trigger, the spring is released, compressing the air and forcing it out a small hole behind the projectile, pushing it out. The projectile does the rest.

I've noticed that if you aim so high that the marker start heading back towards you it's no longer accurate to where the shot is going to land

The piat's projectile is projected by a high powered spring. Why is there a blast and powder smoke when the piat is lauched from the piat's muzzle?

The s-raw was absolutely beautiful to use on bf4, perfect for counter sniping and hitting tank campers!!

This was also around the time that the landship's armor was bugged and deflecting everything, but HE grenades couldn't be deflected. We almost pissed ourselves laughing when we first saw how fast a landship melted under a steady barrage of 4 HE rifle grenadiers.

the level mechanic for mortars in BF4 was actually exactly the same. I used to take out snipers in hainan resort by basically aiming long to hit them on top of the roof. After you do it for a while you start being able to mentally estimate your aim points.

Wow, this helped me so much. I just thought that Piat is way worse than Panzerfaust because of its drop, and it is included in the game just for the allied faction. Thanks !

Just got the game, few hours in and it's very fun. More challenging than BF1 and the gunplay is great. Only issue is that lengthy animation when you bleed out. Other than that it's nice so far I like how it's harder to see enemies makes this game more competitive

Could make a potentially very effective indirect fire anti-tank squad with this, 3 guys with the piat and 1 with the recon spyglass to spot the tank, then all lob shots at it from behind cover.
0:28 PIAT is a rocket?? NO! It's a bloody projector! It's powered by a huge spring in the body of the weapon that most be cocked (with immense difficulty) before firing. It works like a massive nerf gun almost, but instead of a nerf dart it is a bomb with a HEAT warhead.

MRKN FORCE No, there is no explosive propellant in a PIAT. A PIAT is reloadable, something impossible with explosive propellant. It is a spring, cocked by extending the shoulder rest. You pull the trigger, the spring is released, compressing the air and forcing it out a small hole behind the projectile, pushing it out. The projectile does the rest.
Yes, but the projectile uses explosive propellant to propel it self, the spring only propels it about 3-5m
MRKN FORCE No it doesn't. If you see a PIAT being fired, there is no boom as it's launched. There is no explosive propellant.
