    Dude your videos have helped me so much, thanks to you I got my hands dirty and fitted a 6 speed to my 330ci convertible. Best upgrade ever. Completely changed the car, makes it so much more fun. Big fan of your channel. Cheers! Frans

    It seems you have installed used SAC pressure plate. Does the clutch engage with pedal near floor or does it do anything wrong? Normally it's said you can't reuse the self adjusting pressure plate without having it "re-locked" by a shop before: so it adjusts correspondingly to disc state and does not click into the "thin clutch disc" position with no ability to adjust itself anymore

    Where i messed up was NOT using a socket the same size as the Pilot bearing I used a flat board to punch the bearing in flush, this shifter wasn’t seated right
    Proceeded with instal and got a rubbing noise when pushing in clutch, noise was rubbing of the springs
    Luckily nothing broke I know that much, am gonna have to drop the tranny and punch in the pilot bearing in more

    Hopefully that self adjusting pressure plate works out for you. In my experience if reusing it as it ended up with clutch slip which wasn't noticeable until it got worse. When pulled it out of the car the clutch had cone shaped wear and plate had clear marks from slippage and overheating. Second used self adjusting pressure plate I installed, I spent half an hour cussing to get self adjusting mechanism back into default position.
    Not trying to hate, just warning in case something starts to feel fishy

      Yeah I know--I'm aware of the chance I'm taking and all that, but in my opinion these components were in good condition and I detailed why in my intro video in the manual swap series a few weeks ago.

    • @vadimosovski9664
      @vadimosovski9664 7 лет назад +1

      I heard you mention that clutch is in good condition and it does look like new, but the problem lies in self adjust clutch being torqued down/installed without resetting the self adjust mechanism. It is fairly easy to do with larger 3-way puller and thick flat head screw driver to rotate the mechanism. If this project is already done then let's hope for the best, and if not, we will get another great video.

      Ummmm... I really don't know what you mean by getting the selt adjusting mechanism back into default position. That is not a procedure I've ever heard about or read about with any clutch. The clutch disc just has some springs in it to cushion things and the dual mass flywheel has springs in it as well for the same purpose. Yeah the project is already done and everything is fine. Can you point me in the direction of some literature on this subject?

      Ah, interesting. Yeah I was aware of the lock that you had to remove on a new pressure plate but just didn't look into it further. I surmise that because I installed the same clutch disc that was installed with this pressure plate before, it must have been adjusted to the correct position already? I dunno. Doesn't seem to be any problems, though. The clutch fully disengages.

    Hey, just a little question. Was there anything in the hole you fed the clutch high pressure line through, like a rubber plug? Or is it open on automatics so dirt just goes in below the carpet?

    To get your pedal on; couldn't you just trim back the 2 white runners on the plastic support bracket with a dremel tool? They look longer for the step down pedal. If you shorten the runners, you may be able to slide your manual pedal all the way.

    littletrick on thatrear main seal, drill a tiny hole thru thr metal round face of the seal and simply screw in a sheet metal screw and with plyers pull the 3 inch roundrear mail seal and clean the bore and tap in a new one! no need to take that housing off or compromising the seal of the housing to oil pan seal surface..

    And what is funny, I am doing clutch kit replacement aswell at this day.

    hey, i know there’s been a couple comments about the pressure plate, but i was also wondering, if i have to just do my pilot bearing and rear main seal, can i remove the clutch and pressure plate and reuse the pressure plate without compressing the middle, aka mimicking the locking tool? i just redid the clutch last year, and i would really hate to have to repurchase a pressure plate. thank you, love all your videos

    Great job, 1 question when you connect the transmission switch to br/sw do you disconnect the wire going to the transmission control unit. I assume it does nothing now. I forgot to unplug the transmission computer. My switch failed, I think this may of been a result of a short if the computer was putting out 12v.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid 3 года назад +1

      I didn’t because there was nothing in the other end of the harness. Not plugged into a trans anymore.

    Would you be kind to maybe give us the pricing for all the parts that are needed used or approximate price that you think one should pay for used parts. I am thinking of doing this myself to my e46 , but would like to have general idea how much would it cost. Thanks.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid 7 лет назад

      I will do a video on how much everything cost me, but there are too many part numbers for me to detail in a spreadsheet--I just don't have the time. Others have done it already, though. Please read the description to find the link to the forum DIY threads that contain all that info. Watch my intro video on this series to see details on all the various parts you need for the swap.

      Well apparently it's more of a problem with the older 99-01 vehicles, less so after that. I've already inspected and not noticed any cracking at all. I plan to keep an eye on it and if I see anything developing I will deal with it then.
