I've never thought I'd spend almost an hour watching a video of a lovely couple touring a town. What an absolutely amazing tour that was. You guys got me hooked from the beginning right to the end through your commentary. A vlog nothing short of spectacular! 🔥🔥🔥
Nice to know an animal center in South Africa! I'm glad to see rescued animals living happy there. I rescued wounded and mistreated birds a lot of times.
Good on you for rescuing birds, we have the highest admiration for folks like you. 😍🐧🦆 It was fantastic to visit the Flag Animal Farm, the animals did indeed look very happy and well taken care of, which was very heartwarming. 👌🏻🐖🦌🐊🦎🐍
In the whole of this video the only places I recognised was La Montagne (where we frequently stayed) and Boulder. Way back in the late 1980’s it was a small town nesteling amongst sugarcane fields.
Hi you two! Thank you for taking me along up the Dolphin coast! Ballito is a stunning place. I have lung and heart problems after this trip. The stunningly beautiful designed buildings in town took my breath away, and the big rocky beaches (of whatever name), the fantastic blue ocean and the green trees and vegetation along the roads and streets stole my heart. The Flag rescue farm with its variety of animals - from peacocks to a large iguana! - was also unique. Ballito is clearly a very grand holiday town. That Eddie Rubenstein really knew what he was doing when he started it off in 1954. Btw. I am a few years older than Ballito, but my heart and lungs will have recovered i time for our next trip. I'll be waiting for the pick up. Keep safe!
Oh no, heart AND lung problems, no less! 😱 That wasn't our goal, although I must admit Sonia had the same symptoms at the animal farm. 😨 We tried our hardest figuring out the names of the different beaches, but it was tough for these out-of-towners! 🤣🏖️ The vegetation continued to be next-level and we thought by this time, we would've been used to it, but no way. We gasped around every corner and mostly for the natural beauty which is on display everywhere! 🌳🌊 The farm was a fantastic cherry on the Ballito cake, I loved every minute I could spend with those special animals. 😍🐖🐐🦆 I'm so glad you enjoyed it with us. You better make sure you're in tip-tip shape for the next leg! 🚙😁 Look after yourself.
You are amazing you brought back so many memory's me and Marlene had a holiday in Belito about 12 years ago and wow how amazing and stunning it became thank you 2 kindly

Ballito, beautiful part of the world, I remember it as Ballito Bay as well. My company had a team building exercise their once and it was at a venue called la Montagne, on the beach. Never will forget it, we the for the whole weekend.
Balito is a wonderful place indeed. Went there many times wen it was nothing but holiday flats, a post office, small convenience store and a games arcade with Pac-Man being the game of the year. When I went back there ten years ago I could not believe the size of it. We used to stay at Cowry Cove and La Mystique.
Hi guys the wind and the waves no wonder its where they hold the surfing competition. I felt sorry for the stall holders trying to sell their towels. Every thing looks neat and tidy also plenty of holiday accommodation. The people who live here are very lucky indeed it's a beautiful place tree lined streets stunning. Monkeys in town very cool plus the little Staffordshire. The big house on the hill built in jetty style with millionaire views amazing. The story of the towns name is brilliant st Albans one the oldest towns in England. The wind was pumping, let me tell you! 😳 Those towels had a hard time clinging on to those lines! Their bright colours were incredible! The properties up on the hill must indeed have a spectacular view and those folks must be able to see forever! 🌊 The vegetation continued to surprise us with its non-stop beauty, we just love that so much of it is kept in place! 🌳💚 The moment we had a chance to jump on gravel, we did and it was the best decision! I'm with you 100% about the alligators and the white wolves. I just couldn't figure out why folks would want to bring them here and then ultimately can't keep them. You make a very good point. Bring them to South Africa, where we have such an incredible variety of wildlife as it is! That blows my mind! You certainly had a major close call with that rinkhals! 😨🐍 I bet you got the fright of your life, and your friend probably too! Only in South Africa, as you always say, you will walk along and pick up a snake. 🇿🇦
Thank you for watching our video of your hometown! 🚙😍 I have no doubt that you never run out of things to do and see. You're lucky to live in such a beautiful area!
Visit in season and the place is packed and very colourful with lots of young people walking everywhere. Spending holidays there for years and experienced the old Ballito, Chaka’s Rock and Salt rock and all the construction and expansion of the that areas over time. I still miss some of the amenities that were near the Spar. I must say that the small Checkers is a wonderful change and walking distance from the main beach and where we normally stay. Going there beginning of December with family. Can’t wait to walk all over the place during the day
Even though it's very developed now it's still beautiful and has character, unlike umhlanga. The old north coast flanked by sugar cane fields had a unique charm and atmosphere.
Thank you for this trip. The animal rescue is insane. Wow what a dedication. Excellent done. The rest of the footage was great. I enjoyed it so much. Definately on the next trip If you allow me in!
First off, it's not even an option for you not to join us on the next leg! 🚙😁 That animal farm was such a highlight. Animals will always be one of our true loves and it was just incredible to see how well these ones are taken care of. They're so deserving of that. 😍🐒🦎🐊 Happy to hear you enjoyed Ballito!
Lol we really get a bargain watching your videos, we get 3 in 1, the animal planet, history and adventure lol😂..... Well done to everyone involved in taking care of those animals I got alot of respect for them dedicating themselves to take care of the animals ❤
I agree with you and I felt quite sorry for the wolves. 😥🐺 I hope you saw the sign which mentioned that they go home with the owners every day and for a run three times a week. So they were waiting at the gate since it was almost hometime. That made me feel better. 😊
I was always a south coaster also. Never really explored the north, so thanks for sharing this. The growth is probably really helpful for commerce; jobs and the like. Good job Ballito. Safe travels DustBugs.
It's quite interesting how most folks seem to be either Southcoasters or Northcoasters. Although we'll always have the softest spot for the South Coast, it was great to see how gorgeous the coastline and the towns we visited on the North Coast are. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them too, we so appreciate having you on board with us! 🚙😁
The bridges in this part of the world are so beautifully designed. I think the last time I saw dolphins was at Hermanus. A whole school passed close by to us where we stood on the shore. It was so special. Didnt you get sandblasted on the beach in that wind? I also prefer dust over traffic. For me the highlight is definite Those little piglets are too cute!! And the little goats! Why are babies so adorable! I could easily have driven away with a little goat or two on my back seat. Lovely old horse. And wow! Blown away by the iguana, they are so sweet. I have had the privilege of cuddling an iguana at Butterfly World and will never forget it. They seem to enjoy human warmth. How wonderfully are our animals created! Now this is an example of a dinosaur that adapted to evolution. That ostrich expects food!🤣Now why is Sonia missing this experience? I just wonder at the work and the money involved in keeping this place running.
Yes, our love for bridges was properly entertained in KZN, we just loved all of them so much! 🚙🌁 The baby animals always floor us, but so do all the others too. I thought the 31-year old horse was super special too! 😍🐴 Spike letting me inspect him so closely, was the star of the show! 🦎🤩 Sonia has had serious knee issues for over six years and three major surgeries. The last thing we need, is for her to get hurt while we're far away from home. We've talked about this a million times and whenever she gets given the choice between us staying at home or her staying in the vehicle, she chooses the latter every time, with not the slightest hesitation. She of course also gets to see the hours of footage which doesn't make it into our videos. 🥰 The wind was rather rough the day of our visit to Ballito. Living in Strand though, one kind of gets immune to it and you just push on. Quite literally! 🌬️
@@DustBugsTravel such a shame about Sonias knees. I didn't realise it was that bad. Wow! I feel for you guys. What about a wheel chair for such occasion? It's just so sad to miss out on the actual experience.
She really has no issue staying in the car at all, the levels of FOMO are really low with her. 😍 Me on the other hand, I don't want to miss out on a single thing if I can help it. 😁 She's not keen on a wheelchair. She's fine to walk once she's out of the vehicle, just not far, on uneven surfaces or more than three or so stairs / steps. The constant in-and-out of a vehicle puts extra stress on her knees too. 🚙😖
For someone who only watches RUclips, I can say you guys have the potential to make even better videos. Love this video, especially. Keep up the good work. Hopefully, you guys read this. And I hope you guys are enjoying life. Lots of love from Vanderbijlpark 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you. 🚙😁 We regard ourselves as vloggers and not professional filmmakers, so these videos are essentially our memories of our trips which we look forward to looking back on one day. We're quite happy with our efforts. 🤩
Love it. Keep it up. And if you are in Balito again, I would Recommend that greek restaurant that you drove past that goes by the name of Nikos. And Mozambik which has nice prawns. And also another Greek restaurant in Lifestyle and its name is Atikos. The place you guys also drove past by the super spar. There is a nice market place there full of restaurant. And another place is salt Café by salt rock which is a nice place to get some coffee. I know it's a big recommendation. But I think you would like these places 😂
At one stage, at least, Ballito was the fastest developing town in the country (largely driven by Jo'burgers retiring, I think). Might still be, by the looks of things. Interesting the pets some people keep and then fail to keep. Thank goodness there are some people out there willing to rescue them. Looks to me like everyone there is really into the animals, and their natural biology. Great to see. I think with exotic pets, or even "specimen pets" (as opposed to "companion pets" like dogs, cats, and small enough pigs) people should maybe only be allowed to have them in the context of some kind of "club/society"? That way you try to accommodate the acceptable part of the demand for these, and hope to avoid the worst aspects of this kind of pet keeping - by having others involved in decisions to get new "pets", for starters. It would also give even small towns some kind of "zoo" others could go and learn from, and relax in. Just a thought. It seems to me the problem starts where people can just "buy" animals as Things. "Get a puppy and three teddy bears for the kids at Xmas". That kind of approach. And then puppy becomes inconvenient, and the kids are bored with him, so dump him on the road the way some people will dump an old mattress on the side of the road. It's bad enough that people are allowed to treat dogs as if they're not people (they are!), but all these exotic pets are so much more open to abuse. And so much better accommodated at a place where they can have a "day job" entertaining the public, and hanging out with other animals in natural light. That's maybe getting a bit "political" (but that's just claiming a right to have some say in things as an ordinary person, so it's not really a bad thing?). Good. It means your rescue centre lady got through to someone.
We don't have a firm reference point for the Ballito of yesterday, so have no idea exactly how much it exploded over the last, say two decades. Flag Farm is a fantastic facility and I was so happy that we decided to take the gentleman's advice and take a drive out there. It was a wonderful experience to meet folks who are so passionate about animals, and of course some of the animals thenselves. 😍🦎🐎🐊 I agree that certain animals, like those Canadian wolves for example, should never have been pets to begin with. 😥 Animals not being treated properly is a huge sore point for my darling wife and something which troubles her deeply. We most certainly need more Flag Farms under the care of folks as passionate as the team which runs this one. Thank you for your opinion, I appreciate it! We might differ sometimes, but that's also not a bad thing! 🚙😁 Oh, and cats and dogs are most definitely family members, they just don't quite talk like us or live as long. Sadly. 🌈
@@DustBugsTravel Yes, if I could change one thing about the world, I think I'd make cats and dogs live as long (or maybe nearly as long, to avoid the "surviving parrot problem") as humans. And a world in which we can disagree agreeably is probably a better one than one where we're always falling in line.
We've only visited Ballito a handful of times over the years, so we really have no idea. We've never experienced any safety concerns while visiting the town though. You'll have to make enquiries with local folks and organisations for accurate info. 😊
Those people make the world go around, well said Sonia.
It's always great to see folks working in and around a town to fix or clean it up. I believe there were serious floods in April of this year and they may still be repairing residual damage from that sad event. 🛣️🌧️ If Sonia had her way, we would've left Flag Animal Farm with a whole truckload of those precious animals, but they're very happy and are so well taken care of. 😍🦎🐴🐊🦌🐒🐺🐰🐖🦆 The staff were all incredibly friendly and approachable and they're clearly a wonderfully-committed and passionate team. The wind down by the beach was wild! 😳🌬️ I think I did wash out a few million grains of sand in the shower that evening! We look forward to showing you what place we visited next! 🚙😁
@Skyworth Modem You really don't have to worry about Sonia, she's the happiest person I know! 🥰 She's not keen on a wheelchair since the constant in-and-out of the vehicle will also be uncomfortable for her. I don't even have serious knee issues and mine complain sometimes! 🦵🏼😨
I get the wheelchair issue. I need one so badly but won't get one. I dont want to be pushed around. Electric or nothing and the electric bloody pricey....So much for helping people who need mobility. Things cost a fortune. No horrible thing a wheelchair
Sonia has had three major knee surgeries in the last six years, all which failed. 😥 So, while she is completely mobile, she is unable to navigate long distances, uneven distances and stairs / steps. The safest place for her when I go walkabout, is in the vehicle since the last thing we want, is for her to get hurt while we far away from home. She is totally happy staying in the vehicle and we do most of our exploring from our vehicle anyway. 🚙😍
If you had walked the slatted path promenade you would gave encouragem ent tired all of the Ballito Beach coves I clouding Willard Beach which is considereal the main Beach where the life savers are on duty, ( and where international surfing events take place) and you would have e got a better idea of the geography of Ballto. You drove right past Boulders apartments and the little access road adjacent to each Boulders Beach and granny's pool too. All the little rocky coves were missed. LA Mantagne was unnoticed and en route to Salt Rock along the beach road you missed the best treasurenof all Thompsons Bay with its hole in the rocks beyond the tidal pool, leading one through to another heach cove only accessible at low tide. At the far northern end of Thompsons ay is Chakae Rock where the famouse King Chaka (Shaka) threw errant warriors off the rocks into the raging sea below. It isnt thatfar to fall and legend says that they died of fright before hitting the wild waves below!
You may not know that Sonia is unable to walk longish distances or navigate uneven surfaces or steps, so the promenade was a no-go for her and she remained in the vehicle. I never wander too far away and we explore mostly from the vehicle since that suits our specific circumstances. Thank you for the info and for watching our video! 🚙😁
Guys love your videos.....I find them very "Rustig".....and I love your interaction with each other. Now for the Bad news....Granny Pool Beach does exist, so the car guard was right....A cursory glance at google maps would have confirmed the fact, and you could have educated the person who misinformed you.
Thank you for the info. We travel for fun and are really not in the business of doing extensive research or correcting others. That's not important to us. If we make mistakes, we're happy that folks like you correct us. We're totally fine with that. 🚙🌊
you obviously are not aware of the death and destruction to the Balito area in April 2022, where people lost their lives and roads were washed away. Maybe a little bit of research and talking to the locals would have highlighted the local disaster that took place. I was expecting you to at least mention something about it , as I remember the area around the Al pescatore restaurant . their was a traffic circle at the intersection at the Al pescatore. its all gone now
We were not aware of this at all. There was no insensitivity intended on our part. We chatted to several locals, including right outside the mentioned restaurant, and not a single person mentioned it. 🤷🏻♂️
I've never thought I'd spend almost an hour watching a video of a lovely couple touring a town. What an absolutely amazing tour that was. You guys got me hooked from the beginning right to the end through your commentary. A vlog nothing short of spectacular! 🔥🔥🔥

I agree with you and I felt quite sorry for the wolves. 😥🐺 I hope you saw the sign which mentioned that they go home with the owners every day and for a run three times a week. So they were waiting at the gate since it was almost hometime. That made me feel better. 😊
Wonder what became of Hickorys pub....Used to consume beverages there '95 to '97...and then hit the dancefloor downstairs!
Oh wow that shopping mall is built to resemble the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Very cool
Ek is mal oor die rondryery. Is asof ek saam met julle ry. Geniet dit julle twee
Surfers paradise, was there once (December 2010)
Hi guys please let us know when you are doing the eastrand Gauteng as we would love to meet up with you guys
And another place
is salt Café by salt rock which is a nice place to get some coffee.
This is content why im on RUclips Premium. Who needs Dstv??
That is a big compliment, thank you very much! 🚙😁
Is ballito safe guys? Looking to move there soon
We've only visited Ballito a handful of times over the years, so we really have no idea. We've never experienced any safety concerns while visiting the town though. You'll have to make enquiries with local folks and organisations for accurate info. 😊
Baie welkom na my Dorp toe.
Thank you kindly, it was awesome to visit your beautiful town! 🚙😍 We appreciate you watching our video of the place you're lucky enough to call home!
Why don't you get Sonia a wheel chair so that she can join you in most of your wanderings. She would have loved the animals there
Easier asked than done, .......consider thereof..............I too am in a wheel chair. Give thought to your questionioning.....et al
Wy not I love whatching did big travel
Thank you for watching! 🚙😁
Just curious, why does your wife sit in the car and didn’t come with in the animal farm?
Sonia has had three major knee surgeries in the last six years, all which failed. 😥 So, while she is completely mobile, she is unable to navigate long distances, uneven distances and stairs / steps. The safest place for her when I go walkabout, is in the vehicle since the last thing we want, is for her to get hurt while we far away from home. She is totally happy staying in the vehicle and we do most of our exploring from our vehicle anyway. 🚙😍
If you had earrings that ostrich would have taken them right off your ears.🙃
No shiny stuff on my ears! It would've had a hard time getting my wedding ring off my finger! 😁 They're super cool birds with such personality!
Your time consuming car driving is boring. The comments are minimalistic. Sorry, not a good add for Ballito.
