Bent down, pretended to tie my shoe, blocked the view with my backpack, slid the $10 into my sock. A few minutes later a girl comes running up to the cashier crying harder than I've ever seen anyone cry, full on panic about losing her whole week's lunch money. Making a huge scene. Everyone in the whole lunch room was looking at her. I'm standing a foot away sweating bullets, probably turning beet red, just hoping no one saw me pick it up. I felt guilty, terrible even. But the deed was already done.

Yes, but this is Rocco. He's the kind of guy to speed off from McDonald's drive thru to go somewhere else just because one of the things he wanted wasn't available at the time. Not knocking his way of doing things, just giving context.

They're not gonna waste their time tracking down someone who stole something as small as an AirPods case. My friend lost her Macbook, knew where the thief lived, even had screenshots of his face, but the police did not care. The police only pursue thieves if it's something big like a car or anything that amounts to over $10,000 dollars. Even when photographers get all their gear stolen (which can easily be way over $10,000), police don't care much. Police departments mainly focus on violent crime and drug busts, not stolen personal items.
