I would do just one line item for house per pay $750. Of course you will need to review the account to make sure everything checks out. It was a good learning lesson about sinking funds that I also had to learn the hard way. I am not understanding though the need for cleaning people. You have 2 adult women that could easily clean your half of the house. This is a lot of money going for something you can do. You have given me the inspiration to get my own budget book to keep better track of the expenses. I do not have a mortgage but with a house there are other expenses. If the prices on everything increases next year as people are saying, I really need to buckle down and keep an exact budget and possibly see where cut backs need to be made.
I would just do a line item for your half of the joint expenses each payday. I would keep a single sheet for joint home expenses where you track the actual numbers just in case you need to increase your share in the future and to make sure you’re accurate in your estimates, but for your personal budget I’d just go with the single line item.
I think you should make two budgets. one for only the house stuff. I agree with yhe total amount in just one line of ur main budget. Do a second budget just to keep up with ur part of the house expenses.
I second this option. Tracking detailed expenses as a new home owner is key. After a few years you will be better able to predict home maintenance needs. One rule of thumb I’ve used over the years is to build up to 1% of the value of the home set aside for normal maintenance and expenses each year. Even owning a new home you find out things you need or want as you live there that are not part of the warranty. I love that you are documenting this journey for others to learn about homeownership. Thank you!!❤
Agree with the others, I'd just do a separate joint budget for the house. In your personal budget, your line item is just your half due. It'll really simplify things and make it easier to track and it'll be easier to look at just house expenses as it's own entity and it'll also give you more content for your channel to separate it out.
Do one line marked JOINT ACCOUNT ...think if as as a line item or a single bill! You could do 1/2 and 1/2 each paycheck...you could also set it up as a auto save just from one account into savings or other account.... Get well soon ..take care of yourself🌻😻🌻
I would do one budget for you that includes one line for Housing/Household. Then a second budget with your 1/2 plus Carol Ann’s 1/2 as the income with the bills and expenses that come out of that account. Basically each account has its own budget. Hope this makes sense.
When I moved into my house, I tracked all my utilities for a winter and summer. My most expensive seasons. I now budget 1/2 of that amount every pay. I am paid twice a month. I put that amount aside for utilities and of course 1/2 the mortgage. I like how it streamlines my budget.
Thanks for sharing your budget, it’s so helpful to me, as I’m starting my own to pay down debt and get a house. I sure hope you feel better soon! I’ve had Strep multiple times in my life. It’s definitely no fun! Hope you get lots of rest!
I think keeping the expenses separate for house expenses will allow you to know you’re in budget or over per expense. At least for a few months, it might be important to know you’re in budget for each item.
I would just do a one line for the total household amounts that you are transferring to the joint account rather than tracking each item separately. Since you're going to let any buffers/differences ride in that joint account, just monitor that separately to make sure it doesn't get upside down.
Hope you feel better soon! I budget my expenses by what’s do when. Ex. Pay check 1 is mostly mortgage, check 2 is utilities etc, and any extra is shopping/ fun. They all come from the same account so it’s more a matter of keeping enough in the account vs. Transferring it elsewhere.
Great video Lisa. My first thought on you being sick was that Carol Ann probably brought it home to you. 😢 One line item will probably work well for you but will inevitably lead to questions I’m sure 😂. Hope you feel better.
I think a single line item for household expenses in the amount of $750 would be better since the amount is consistent and the remainder stays in the account as a buffer
Hi Lisa. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Strep, IMO is much worse than covid. I feel for ya! UGH. You have been in this new home for a little over a month. Please give yourself some grace. Yes, saving and paying yourself first is SO IMPORTANT. I get it. But until you've had a chance to get used to your new situation, like say 6 months or so, perhaps scale back the savings just a bit. Just for 6 months until you are fully acclimated to the new deal. LOL Keep a healthy buffer in your checking. Have faith in yourself. I am a recovering spender/shopaholic and will always be. We make errors in judgement, it happens. But we learn. I think by depleting yourself so much it may be to your determent in the first few months in your new home. Budgets take time, as I'm sure you know. Adjustments are imminent. Give grace and have faith. Learn what the new normal really is. I think you are doing great. Have solid goals and will make them all come to fruition. Look at all you have accomplished in the past year! 🙂 Great video. Feel better! REST WELL.
I would keep it separate for a few months so you can have a track of the expenses. then once it all settles out and you have a good grasp on the numbers, then you can do it to one line. I hope you feel better soon! I used to get strep all the time when I was younger and haven’t had it since I got my tonsils out. 😊
I agree that you need a separate budget for house expenses, them list only one line in your personal budget. It will be way too confusing to track expenses on one sheet between two accounts.
I think having one line for the household bills on the paycheck budget makes sense. Then, you can track the actual amount for the expenses separately on the monthly budget.
Love your videos! Sorry you are sick. What size Frixion is your black pen? That is all I use. I use the navy in .5. I have a black in .7, but it isn't as dark as yours.
Sorry to hear you have strep throat. I was just looking at your budget. I don't see a column for home insurance. Will you have a sinking fund for the renewal premium?
My husband and I have separate budgets. We have a joint checking for just bills and my portion gets automatically deposited from my check. The only thing i put in my budget is any money that is direct deposited into my own checking. If that makes sense.
Hey Lisa, I vote for the one line for "Monthly House Fixed Expenses" since the leftovers goes to buffer. Sending healing hugs for a speedy recovery.❤
I hope you feel better!
Carol Ann is so sweet to do all that for her momma!! 💗
She’s the best

The cleaning lady is worth every penny. I have trimmed my budget so I can afford $150 per month to have it done.

I just deposited my $5,$1 and change for the year. It I came to $808 for Christmas. I love savings challenges.
That’s great
That’s awesome!!!!!!

This is what I do. My account, My mother's and a joint for housing.

That is definitely the plan!

Mine are Clicker 07

It is included in the payment

That’s a good idea. I might do a budget for myself and one for joint.
