The clashing note mentioned around @1:01:00 actually adds an ambient dissonance to the pad and something about the sound is lost when he EQ’s it out. So interesting, January is a longtime favourite of mine. Maybe it wasn’t in the Final Cut and I’m just making it up in my head lmao Peace ✌🏼
How do they record the drums like do they click in the midi notes, or play it on a keyboard or drum machine, or take samples and loop them? Unbelievable how much detail is in their songs
It's a combination of all of them, Guy normally takes samples for stuff like tambourines, shakers, etc. sometimes he uses looped samples for an underlying beat such as on his new Jungle track- using Amen breaks etc. Mostly he uses J Dilla samples, which will be an array of kicks, hats, snares, and whatever else, he then records them one by one using a keyboard until he has a beat, then he clicks the midi to arrange notes he doesn't like; he increases the velocity, and often the beat mapping so that it feels more 'human' ie. moving a bass kick just before the first beat of the bar so it is slightly out of time, but not so much that it makes the song out of time.
@@kevino2578 normally this means that they've sampled a chord (lets say Gm7), and instead of writing a new chord, they map the sample to a keyboard so that pressing G on the keyboard triggers Gm7, and then they would pitch it down by playing D, which would trigger a Dm7 chord. They've not written a new chord, just pitched down the original sample, to create a new chord.
