- Why does my Rode Wireless Go Microphone sound so bad? If there is a crackling sound or you get feedback that your sound is awful, try this simple fix. Basically, you have to adjust your volume settings on the wireless microphone receiver. There are 3 volume settings, and I'll demo all three of them here. Warning: turn your volume down for setting 3.

Lol! It only took me 8 months to figure out that there are volume settings. Glad to know others were baffled. Thanks Ashley!
I made this video just for YOU! But actually, I got this question in my Instagram DMs from someone else, too. I thought, if at least two people ask me, I MUST make a video.
Thanks for the video. 2 years later and your video is still helping. Thanks.
Thanks Ashley! I watched lots of lengthy videos showing the setup of this mic, and yours is the first to actually show this adjustment. Nice short very informative video. Now I need to see what the little star thing is for in the top center of the screen... Might be time to get the instructions out! 😂
Finally, exactly what I was looking for. I could not figure out what the settings were doing. Now I know. Thank you.
Glad this was helpful!
Thank you!! You Are literally the only one who was able to answer this question thank you so much
I find that so odd, but I am also happy to be the only one answering specific questions like this. And besides being an Amazon affiliate, I'm not affiliated with the company at all. I just really enjoy this microphone.
I really do appreciate all of your videos. SO HELPFUL! another thing I noticed by lowering to the lower setting, it picks up less background noise and less swallowing/mouth noises lol
Yes, this is true. I would have it on the low setting if there were background noises like teaching outside. And I would just make sure to try to talk louder. It's also the setting I'd choose if I were teaching a hybrid class (both in person and online). I never ever have it on the high setting.
Ashley! Your videos have been so helpful to me and I have watched so many of them... but this one, omg... THANK YOU!!! It was driving me crazy how all of a sudden my students couldn't hear me properly. I had checked all the settings on my Macbook, unplugged and replugged, was about to call the store I purchased my equipment from and then BAM! Watched this video and durrrr... I had accidentally changed the volume setting on my mic to low 🤦🏻I had no idea this button was even there. Dur! Thank you Ashley, you are a life saver!! ❤
That's what I'm here for! 🎉😉
You are a life saver.. I watched hundreds of setup videos and couldn’t figure out the problem unit now. Thank-you 😊
I have been looking for why my rode wireless sounded bad and I found your video which has been very useful for me. Thank you very very much!
Thanks Ashley, your help is always appreciated.
You're welcome. Thanks for the love!
This is so helpful, I didn't even know but had mine on the high setting and it was horrible.
You are hands down one of the best youtuber who is great explaining things (in details) Hats off to you :)
Thank you!
Thanks Ashley. Nice demonstration. I agree, the Rode wireless Go is brilliant. 👍
Thanks, this made a huge difference. I was at level 3.
DUDE! Thank you so much for this. Such an easy fix
You're welcome! I am happy to help. I had no idea that this wasn't an intuitive thing until I was getting multiple questions on why it sounded to bad. So I made a simple video to help out.
Thanks again! This was super helpful! I am ordering the parts through your links. Hopefully, you get some perks for that.
In the RODE Wireless 2 you can change the the volume to dB to get more then three steps thru the RODE app on the Desktop for both Mac and PC, And if you try to use the wireless GO 2 with your desktop with the USB cable you have to change the volume on the mic withing your desktop settings. So dont give up on the RODE Wireless 2 they are more versitile when it comes to Volume. i Highly recomend getting the Desktop app for all the Rode Wirless GO 2 users.
Hey - thanks for extra advice on the mic setting in the desktop settings. Fixed my problem!!
My rode wireless go 2 microphone has been with me for several months but was not able to use it. It has an awful static sounds it's like heavily raining. I dont know if there's still need to setup on my android phone or in the microphone itself
@@extraboons6485 ive heard some reports on problems with some smartphones, u my self had some strange sound happening when i use the USB-c cable to my Samsung 22. but i have not used it in a while so i dont know. i mainly use my DSLR camera for videos nowdays.
@@kamratdennisI used my rode 2 to my Nikon dslr but the sounds so bad. 😢 I don’t know how to fix it.
@@Yammacapantao have you updated the firmware on your device? and done some settings from the computer or smartphone device via usb-c? you might wanna play aroud with the gain on your camera as well so you dont have to use the cameras preamps maybe you kanow all this allready but it would be nice to hear if you get it to sound better. do you have a sound sample of it right now?
Yes, thank you!!!! I too was confused. This was a big AHA moment!
Thank you so much for this video! Much respect. 🙂
Thank you! This is very helpful 😊😊
Thank you so much for this. Information which is by this time obscure and yet still very much needed! Good job!
Thank you so much for this video! I was afraid my mic was broken, when the audio was really low while editing! Such a simple solution but couldnt find it anywhere, lol.. THANK YOU!
Sometimes it's the simplest of things. I was amazed how many times I got this questions, which is why I made this video.
Great tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you. I am going to try this, because when its connected to my iphone I feel like I get some bad crackling sound. Thanks
thank you so much
Thanks for your videos, they're so helpful. Also this one with the volume settings. So simple, but hadn't thought about it and my sound was bad indeed. Thanks!
Your camera clarity is very nice. Which one model used for making video ❤
Thank you. Picking up my first rode go
Thank you so much for your video…. I was struggling with they choppy sound 🤣
Thanks for your help!! I’m buying this this weekend because of you. I wish I could order it through Amazon and support you in the same go, but unfortunately they don’t deliver here. Island life.. 😂 I’ll check out your other videos too. Thanks a lot🙏🏽😍
That’s okay! I just hope you enjoy it as much as I do. For years I wanted something like this exact product and was so happy when I finally found it. So I just have to share about it! It’s made my life and online teaching so much better.
@@AshleyHagen Keep on sharing! It's amazing. I tried it today and I LOVE it. Best buy I've done.. Thanks again
very helpful and clear thank you
Thanks. Also, you can disable Audio Enhancements in Additional Device Properties of Microphone (Sound Settings -- Input Device Properties -- Additional device properties -- Advanced -- Disable audio enhancements). For me it made sound much more stable and true.
So helpful thank you ❤
Thank you!! This is the video I needed to the point and now this will make my vids so much better!!
Thanks for this!! Just wish I had watched your video before filming a 40 minute pilates workout on the high setting! It sounds terrible and I probably won't be able to use it. Now I know about the volume setting 😜
Thanks for this informative video!
I put the DB at middle on both my dslr and rode mic. I do not make any changes on volume at post production. After I upload my videos the volume is too low n I’m not able to figure out what’s wrong☹️. May I know the db settings you keep on your camera and do you increase or decrease volume while editing?
I do not personally use this with a camera. I don't have a DSLR so I can't speak to my own experience. I keep the around the medium setting for my iPhone and computer when I record. Have you tested the difference if you turn the volume up to the high setting on your camera?
And yes, I will occasionally adjust the sound settings if I happen to be editing the video in iMovie. If it's a live video or a one-take, I don't edit and don't adjust.
@@AshleyHagen yes i tested on my dslr on low, medium n high settings n none of it worked. May be issue is with my canon m50.
Maybe i will switch frm dslr to iphone lol
Thanks a lot for your reply❤
You're a gem Ashley. Great content, always practical, clear and easy to understand. We have Covid to thank for sending you out to us all here in the cyber world. :)
I've been on the cyber world making videos for over 10 years. It's just the pandemic that helped me squeeze into this space a little bit more prominently. Thanks for being here!
I love you Ashley, you saved my life for like 3th time :D
Thank you, I follow you from Egypt
Thanks. I recorded one video with the Rode Go 2 so far, and found that through my camera it sounded great (even though I was in a room with echo). Through my computer into IMovie it sounded kind of distant and echoey, even though I tried to make sure the levels were good and had the mic at the same distance, in the same room. Any idea what might be happening?
Does it have a reverb setting ?
Also how can I use it to live broadcast online ? Is it by just connecting it to the device with Bluetooth?
Also does it connect to booth speakers to teach in person spaces.
Re doing meditation with music /sound effects at the same time ? Is this something that's possible through the same device you connect it to or should I use a separate gadget
Thank you for this info . Simple and to the point.❤️
I just want to ask if you know , I have a rode go 2 and when I record with one of the mic only left side is recorded and from second mic right side . I am not able to make it . If you have an answer to this please do help . Thnks in advance ✌️
I'm not 100% clear on your question. Sorry. I was unaware that there was a left and right sides when recording. I'm not sure what you mean by this. With the Rode Wireless Go II, you can choose to split the audio sounds into two channels, or merge them into one. Check the manual.
@@AshleyHagen actually when I record with only one mic then the sound comes from the left side of the headphone only . Simultaneously when I record only with second mic sound comes only in the right side of the headphone. I think that merge option I have to opt for. ✌️
Thanks Ashley, you're always so clear and helpful xx
You're welcome. :)
Very nice teaching
Good
I like the internal recording of the go I but I love the auto gain correction of the wireless me
Hi Ashley thanks for the helpful videos! Do you your receiver close to your camera? I have heard it needs to be at a distance in avoid to avoid interference. thanks.
I have used this microphone right up next to my computer for zoom calls and video recordings. The microphone and receiver are quite close. I've also used it with my microphone sitting on my computer and the receiver is right next to it. Never had any issues.
Hello. I was wondering how you are able to teach a dance class using this microphone if you also have music on. Thanks so much for your help
I'd need more information to answer this question. Are you talking about in person? Online? On Zoom? Outside? Inside? With what kind of speaker?
If you left it on the loudest setting is there a way to fix the audio afterwards in editing ?
Lifesaver. Thank you :)
Thank you for the tip, it really helps.
Can anyone help with reducing the outside noise? I like to use this mic for the gym but it picks up the music on the background 🥲
How do I do this on my go 2? Please help!
Should be the same. there is a volume button on the bottom of each mic.
Thank you from indian.. after 2 months i found the solution ...
Thanks for the video - it saved me a ton of time and hassle!!
omg thank you!
Happy to help!
Very informative very simple to understand thank you so so much!
Thanks for this quick, informative video. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you! So helpful!
OMG OMG OMG thank you so so sooooooo much I actually thought I broke my microphone, cause on my channel at the end when I’m showing the results of my art, I actually get VERY LOUD & VERY EXCITED & I really though that I blew out my mic hahaha, but yeah I just the volume & yes it was on FULL BALL, OMG I really thought that I was was needed to buy a new one, thank you so so sooooooo much 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
I’ve just subscribed to your channel because I truly appreciate this video 🤩
Very good but even in volume setting one and two, I can hear room noise. I have that problem too ,,,, crackling in the air , lab mics don’t seem to produce this as much as wireless. Please help
Didn't fix it at all. It will work so well and then start buzzing mid class breaking up super bad. It's so annoying. i'm about to throw them out. This isn't the sound I'm getting. It's cutting out and almost sounding like it's cutting out disconnected but it's not. Garbage. I've bought two sets of these and I'm done with them.
Hey , just bought the mic and even though everything seems connected it doesn’t work ! I can see the volume going up and down ( I have the Rc7 cable for my iPhone ) but when I try to speak it doesn’t work. At first I don’t hear the video at all I need to take out the cable. But nothing changes at all
Great video!!
Ashley my settings are ok but the sound is still not ok ;p I recently switched to iPhone 15 pro And I has to use this adapter - jack to USB c. Do you think its beacuse the adapter is poor quality? Soundtrack recorded with iPhone 11 was sooo good
I couldn't tell you for sure what might be the problem. Have you tried other cables? Which version of Røde wireless are you using?
@@AshleyHagen rode wireless GO. I dont have other adapters but I will maybe buy another one and compare:) thanks
Thanks so much for this!
Thank you!!!!!!
Thanks. Lots of love
I hope I didn't get ripped out, just bought this off fb marketplace, one mic sounds awesome the other is quite muted, even with the lab mic. Any ideas
Thanks for these videos! What a great find:) have you noticed your battery goes pretty fast? I'm wondering am I doing something odd as I can't trust the receiver not to cut our after maybe 5 hours of class and receiver goes first. Maybe you know whats up because I'm stumped
The instructions say the charge stays for up to 7 hours. I’m not sure the exact limit. Someone else mentions it’s only 3.5 hrs that they get. I usually just charge these every few days or at least once a week. And I only teach five thirty minutes classes per week. Maybe a few other videos.
@@AshleyHagen oh interesting thanks for letting me know. I use an interface to mix music and my mic so that could be it too
Thank you Ashley this was very useful! also I had an unfortunate experience with a Yoga teacher where after a downward facing dog the micro turned off...so frustrating! did you have the same experience?
No. I have had the cabled flipped and there was no sound for 2 of my classes. No one told me this because there was only 1 person in each of those Zoom classes. I assumed their wifi was bad. And then I went to check the recording and, whoops! No sound. I have also forgotten to switch the audio settings to the microphone rather than the internal crappy mic. I teach so many classes that when it happens once in a while, it's whatever.
@@AshleyHagen Hello Ashley, thank you for sharing, I guess I will add ear plugs or make sure the mic is clipped away from the teacher chin to make sure that during the movements, the mic is not impacted! Take care
The mic sounds terrible even in this video. Can you not hear how muffled it is? These mics are terrible, the DJI mic is also a piece of crap
Great! Thank you so much. Now it sounds better😘
Hey Ashley! Thanks so much for this. I have been watching your videos and actually purchased the Rode wireless go based on your recommendation. I'm wondering though, even with the mic set to volume 2, I am getting an annoying white noise/static sound throughout my recordings. Is there anything I can do about this?
I'm not sure what that could be. I haven't had that problem. Is there a fuzz on the microphone? Have you tried with and external lavalier mic attached to see if it's a microphone dust problem or a device problem?
@@AshleyHagen Thanks so much for your response! I think I have it figured out actually. When I was editing in iMovie I was clicking the "auto enhance" button because it helps with lighting, but then it was bringing up the volume as well, making it louder than it should have been. I also have ordered a lav (I've just been clipping the mic so far as the lav was on back order), so hopefully it will be even better once that arrives! Thanks again :)
There's still distortion on setting 2. The sound quality is kind of poor. I noticed by playing with EQ that it's almost all in the high treble. Which kind of needs boosting to clarity.
what about the issue when your back is turned to the transmitter? my audio has drops off now twice and im getting worried its defected or is this just a rode issue. thanks
No wonder I just got the rode wireless 2 for my first youtube video and I heard a noise in all my video but yes mine was set on high now I'm going to try it in the middle thanks for that tip
Thanks! life saver!!!
Somehow I still get clipping all the time even on the lowest possible setting, which is -30 dB. Literally almost every audio is clipped as soon as someone is talking loud. For example, I have this Spanish guy, who is the host of some episodes, and if I didn't have de-clipping procedure, I would end up with bad segments of sound every time (cause Spanish guys talk loud). They are still not very good, because de-clipping doesn't fix badly clipped audio. So, it's either my device is faulty or it's the whole line of Rode Wireless Go II that is dumb.
Are you using this for interview style videos? How close is the microphone to the person? It might be better to get a different kind of microphone if you are simply talking into it. This one is great for on-the-go or when you walk around. I'm a yoga teacher, so it makes a lot of sense for yoga videos. If you're doing interview style or close up to the computer, I like my Blue Yeti. Sorry, I can't help more than that. It also might be a faulty device. I couldn't tell you.
thank you for that 👍👍
I vcant find this setting in my wireless go 2
very helpful!
My problem is that even on the highest setting my voice sounds like your lowest. but my breath is SOOOO lound... What to do ?
Are you using the Rode Wireless Go II ? With it plugged into the receiver using the USB-c cable?
@@AshleyHagen It doesn't have to be plugged into the reciver right ?
Then it's not really wireless.
@@The_lupo_ Wireless from you to the computer/phone/camera. There's no wires that attach to the microphone. Sure, there are cords to plug in the receiver. Most wireless microphones (if they're not bluetooth) need a way to plug in the receiver to your recording device. It's still "wireless."
@@AshleyHagen Ok but if that would be the case then my audio would simply not record. It Does record it's just faulty, and low volume.
Thank you..small tips do help.
The popularity of this video surprised me. But this small tip needed to be shared. I kept getting messages about the sound and this was usually the issue.
Wow thank you so much
Thanku madam from india kerala
Make video on Rode wireless level mic setting
Thank you
Thank you💕
Hello, this is the sound that I get on all the volume levels..
Thanks
My RODE wireless go II doesn't appear to have volume settings. With 2 mics included, I put one on the front of my Harley and one on the rear (closer to the tailpipe - high up on rear right side fender). My volume played back is fine from on the front UNTIL I start up my bike. At that point somehow the front mic volume is cut in half and I loudly hear the tailpipe. I can barely hear my voice on the playback.
WISH I KNEW what is wrong and how to correct it. If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it. Thumbs up btw!
You can choose to keep the two streams of sound separated or you can connect them to one sound stream. I don't know the technical term for this. The Rode website is helpful with these concerns. Sorry I can't help more!
@@AshleyHagen Thanks Ashley, for trying to help - that was very sweet of you!
I did manage to improve upon the problem by relocating the 2nd mic further away from the rear of the bike. (although it picked up too much of an unwanted lower vibration frequency, like a low bass hum of sorts) I'll figure this out eventually. Btw, RODE is very lacking on expanded helpful information or guidance. Good thing there are nice people like you around! THX!
Has anyone had issues where the first couple seconds of recording are loud then it normalizes?
Thanks for helping me figure out my mic issue. Now I don’t have to buy a new one. 😎
no auto gain?
I don't know what that means. But probably not. It's not THAT fancy. I mean, it's $200.
I can't thank you enough
Oh man, thank you for this video 😂😅😂😆
Nice work I am from India...I am also youtuber...
Good
