I rode the Loire a velo route from 20 to 29 May this year. Since then I have really fallen in love with France. One day I will cycle this route again but with a few more side trips to enjoy this beautiful region even more. Next year I will cycle from Scherpenheuvel (Flanders, Belgium) to Santiago de Compostela (about 2400 km) and will pass by Orléans, a beautiful city of which I have very fond memories. Thank you for this beautiful report that brings back many memories for me.
I'm so lgoad you enjoyed! That sounds like a great plan for 2025. We are looking at a few options for tours in 2025. Mostly in Europe. We hoped to ride Amsterdam to Venice this year but health issues got in the way. Maybe next year!
I am 77, living a car free lifestyle in Southern Indiana since my wife of 42 years passed away in 2020. I sold our car and 55 inch TV that month and have 2 Wabi singlespeeds and a CONCORD E Bike for emergencies. I quit my job also and volunteer at our local hospital once per week, am also an Army and Air Force veteran, I cycled back then as well, since 1972. You two are my clear favorite RUclips cyclists, I hope to see more of your very well crafted inspirational videos soon, and for many years to come.
Thank you Frank! I commend you. It's not easy for most people to live car-free. I don't, although since retiring I hardly put any miles on the car at all, which feels pretty good. We have a grocery store within walking distance, that helps! BTW, we LOVED southern Indiana for biking, would love to come back with our road bikes and ride those hills with something other than our heavy touring bikes. Absolutely gorgeous!
Roland and Julianna, I just love your videos. I've watched you tour all over the US and Europe. I'm retiring next year and am all ready to start my bike touring. I'm lucky enough to live in France so this route is top of the list. thanks for your amazing content. Keep it coming!
Roland and Juliana, I love your videos and we live in Colorado Springs. My husband and I have done a lot of bike touring. We have done two biking tours on the Merlijn (small barge) in the Netherlands and Germany plus the major rail trails in the states. To tour France, has always been a dream of mine. Love the scenery and your narrative.
Thank you! We hope to do more of the Netherlands and Germany in the future. You would love France for cycle touring, in addition to the Loire is the Rhone, the Canal de deux Mers, and other very lovely rides. Great country to cycle in!
I am preparing to bike tour this year from Nantes to Budapest following the Eurovelo 6,and maybe, keep going through the Sultan's trail to Turkey. Can't wait for may to arrive. I have tried for three consecutive years and had to keep postponing due to different reasons. I love your video of the Loire a vélo, specially the "good luck choosing which chateux to visit" 😂. So difficult. I will probably ride 2 days and visit one the third day, or one of the main cities. So it will be a very slow tide at the beginning of my trip
It's not easy making a big trip, we had to postpone our Europe ride last year (hoping we can do it in 2025). Lots of things to get in the way. Your trip sounds fantastic. We also rode the EV6 from Donauschingen to Vienna some years ago, also a really excellent ride. Best of luck!
Roland & Julianna, My wife Joanne and I cycled the same route as you, however , our starting point was St-Nazaire, and we cycled up current to Nevers, Your narration (excellent ) made me relive this trip in a wonderful way , since the landscape was the opposite view from yours. Your videos almost makes me re-think my photography from our trip.Your drone areal views were simply beautiful. We extended our cycling to Basel ,Switzerland , and then followed the Rhine river to where it meets the North Sea , Rotterdam….
Sounds like a great ride! Hope to do the Rhine soon, on our list of places to ride. We kept going down the Atlantic to Bordeaux and the Canal de Deux Mers to Sète, then up the Rhone. Europe is fabulous for bike touring!
@ Yes Europe is really great…. 2024 has been our third Europe bicycle tour…. With 2200KM , (France Switzerland,Germany,The Netherlands) 2025 should be an toss-up… still undecided between Spain or Italy….
Great video! Enjoyed the VO, shots and editing! Also, the music! I used to ride/tour a lot when I was young. I did a mini tour by myself a few years ago between Lake Lugano, CH and Menaggio on Lake Como, IT while travelling with an orchestra. I finally got an ebike last week and don't think I will be riding outside the U.S. as I've reached my 7th decade.😅
Thank you so much Kenneth! Yeah, e-bikes don't really travel well (although there are some pretty reasonable rentals in Europe, just sayin'). Julianna and I rode perhaps the same route as you some years back, after a bike tour on the Danube we took a train from Switzerland through the Gotthard Tunnel to Lugano, then over to Menaggio. Rode a bit on some great bike trails along the lake, with old train or auto) tunnels. Absolutely gorgeous! One of our first videos. Here's a link, see if it brings back some memories for you! Happy holidays! ruclips.net/video/5vEyLzuzmEE/видео.html
@ Thx, Roland. I enjoyed your tour of Lugano-Menaggio/Como immensly! You went a lot further than I did along the lake, so great fun to see that. Keep riding!
It seems many people ride the circumference of the lake, some 100 miles I think. mostly on roads, with traffic, but we felt very comfortable riding in it. Beautiful area!
Sitting in rainy and stormy Dublin enjoying your video after a lovely day yesterday with family. Loire a velo is definitely top of the bucket list. Wishing you both a joyful and peaceful holidays 👍
Have done it from Dublin, taking the ferry to Cherbourg and by trains to Nevers. It takes a full day from Cherbourg, via Caen to Nevers with several changes.
Stumbled upon this channel and we are so happy we did! Love everything about this channel and look forward to seeing more adventures. We are wondering if there are any places for a bathroom break along some of those long stretches? are public bathrooms around like in the US? Merci!
There are a lot more public facilities than most places in the US, and more towns, with more restaurants to use. Depending on what you're used to here in the US, I would say its probably much better.
900 km, 630 km direct between Nevers and the Atlantic with deviations along the way. We took a bit over two weeks, although obviously you could ride it much faster. We prefer a slower pace.
Probably quite a good video but the background music when you talk was so irritating I gave up watching after a few minutes. Either have a commentary or some music, not both at the same time.
Your wife (or husband if you are a female) must have kicked you out of your bed this morning..... You must have not watched many RUclips vids where the background music is loud and super annoying. Definitely not this. I actually find his voice is so pleasant and the back ground music calming and compliments the commentary. Good job I must say. Would love to have all the places in texts, not knowing the Frence language, it's hard to decipher the names. Thank you for a great video.
Vos vidéos France étaient excellentes et je les regarde de temps en temps, elles m'apportent de la joie.
So glad you're enjoying them! I would love to get back there again. Such an incredible place to ride (and eat. and drink. etc. etc.)

Only thing better than watching this is watching it a second time.
Awww thanks Don!

Banger video. I love your smoothing voice over.
Thank you!
Great to have another of your Adventures
Thanks. Planning some new adventures as we speak.
A super video again…..following your series, I rode the Garonne canal route back in August so beautiful…thanks for the inspiration! 👌👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thank you Richard! The Garonne is splendid as well!
As usual a very nice video!
Thank you Klas!
looks fantastic. I like architecture and castles, so many histories in those old countries like France.
So much history you can't really keep up with it, fascinating stories and great touchstones to the past.

Stunning
Ahhh Thanks!
Sitting in rainy and stormy Dublin enjoying your video after a lovely day yesterday with family. Loire a velo is definitely top of the bucket list. Wishing you both a joyful and peaceful holidays 👍
Thanks for the image. I could enjoy a winter day in Dublin, just for a day! Merry Christmas from (weirdly) sunny and dry Colorado!
Have done it from Dublin, taking the ferry to Cherbourg and by trains to Nevers. It takes a full day from Cherbourg, via Caen to Nevers with several changes.
As a citizen of the US, that still inspires a bit of jealousy. Very little of this country you can even reach on a train.
Thank you, Roland!
You're so welcome, Dennis!

@@TheBicycleTourists That is good to know since we would be bringing grandkids along and would be making more pit stops along the way. Thank you!
That sounds like an amazing ride! Something they will remember forever!
Great video! Would love to get a cycling hat or brim like Julianna wears, can you please post a link t purchase it? thank you
DaBrim.
How many miles is the route? How many days did it take you? 🎉
900 km, 630 km direct between Nevers and the Atlantic with deviations along the way. We took a bit over two weeks, although obviously you could ride it much faster. We prefer a slower pace.
Would love to purchase a cycling brim like Julianna, can you please reply with a link?
Just google "DaBrim"
Do you have any gpx files for this route please
Here is the route re-created on Komoot: www.komoot.com/tour/1983275434?share_token=alHqc0vs2oR30x8iHzZbayPwYUezfKUYVkK4pGuAg73FJCtlFg&ref=wtd

I don't have a problem with the levels.
And thank you, caa8785 for the kind words. You're right, spelling out the names in the video would've been a good idea!
