Cadillac for many years was known for its comfort and presence on the road. As time went on though, Cadillac needed some new blood, something exciting. And that is what brings us to the Cadillac CTS V. First hitting the scene in 2004, this car had appealed to a different generation outside the typical geriatric stereotype, which was people like us. Powered by a monster LS the CTS V never did anything short of putting a smile on our faces. So you want a Cadillac CTS V? Well here are some things you should know first...

Look at a v2 coupe from the rear. Those hips poke out beautifully

I picked up a 09 V sedan last February. Definitely the best for me considering I was looking at ZO6s and gt500s and now I have a kid on the way. CTSVs are the ultimate daily in my opinion and I’ve driven it in 10° snowy weather all the way up to 110° heat waves.

Which year and engine would be the most reliable? I want a good daily im also a chevy technican so i got the service information but id like a reliable motor
@@emmanuelguerrero8696 id ask reddit bro. You're better off than some self claimed "GM tech"
@@emmanuelguerrero8696 depends on your wallet and experience. the LSA engine in the Gen 2 is an absolute beast of a motor. easy to make 600+ hp with moderate bolt ons and hptuners. but the Gen 1 is still a solid car with an ls6 and the t56 so its pretty bulletproof until you start adding boost. at that point u will definitely wanna build the engine. Gen 1 you can pick up for less than 10 grand nowdays. a Gen 2 can get pricey starting at like 20k. but they are both solid platforms
@@CeeZee001 lol im not certified if thats what you're implying. Im 23 and currently working towards my ASEs and Hybrid Certs. But I do work as a technician at a dealership and 3 techs here have Vs and Ive learned a ton from them working on the line. that being said Reddit is a very useful form of information tons of people have their specs and tuning maps for these cars, you should research them both and see what you prefer building..
@@maximus1720 yeah i think ill be saving my money i really want a gen 3 but a V from 2012-2017 look beautiful. Whats your opinion on the more affordable used ATS Vs?
A few things you missed. First gen V's have the same aluminum getrag diff case as the v6 cts. They are weak and known to shatter even under stock power. Aftermarket solutions are out there but they are not cheap. Cheapest solution is to swap in the rear cradle from a 2nd gen V which will cost $2k plus and has several drawbacks. There are aftermarket kits for using the ford 8.8 and 9 inch rear but they will cost you $5k+. There are several mods available to strengthen the stock diff but it's a gamble. There are 4 different iterations of diff for the first gen V. 2004 and 2005 use the first and second which are the weakest and most prone to shatter. 2006 and 2007 use the 3rd gen which is a little stronger, and the 4th gen diff was released in 2008 and not installed from the factory. The stock diff is fine if you're not doing burnouts or hard launches but when buying a vehicle with multiple owners that's a risk you have to decide on.
All factory driveline bushings are soft and will need to be replaced to eliminate clunking/driveline vagueness. Creative Steel has everything you need plus the 8.8 diff swap. Replace diff bushing, rear cradle bushings, shifter bushings, isolator bearing, motor and trans mounts and you'll be all set.
Get an 06-07 if you can afford it. They are more refined all around than the 04-05's. Grounding issues solved, pcm issue solved, stronger diff, cam gear pin issue solved, and numerous other things. The biggest pro of the newer cars is the LS2 engine. It does have a better torque curve stock, but the biggest pro is that it's a gen 4 6.0. Meaning most parts are interchangeable between gen 4 motors, including the ls3.

Love the video. My CTS-V Sport (which never gets any cred and maybe should've been addressed) was just totaled. The V-Sport is great HP with a bit smaller price tag. I purposefully looked for this car because I was nervous of handling the HP on the V8 V. Since there were only 54 of my exact model made I can't find one. I'm on to the V8 V now and I cannot wait. Nothing sounds as good as the cold start rumble of a V8.

V2 CTS-V is the best bang for buck. As much as I love the wagon, the V2 Sedan with a 6 speed is the route I went and absolutely love it, easily one of my best vehicles I've ever owned. Shy of 900whp and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Perfect blend of performance and practicality, great daily/streetcar, wolf in sheep's clothing, and with a few bolt-ons can hang with the high performance cars of today.
Got an 05 CTS-V w/the LS6 w/90k on the ticker. Body is clean, shifter issues have been fixed. I've also got long tubes and properly done, very mild tune. I wouldn't drive anything else. This car is amazing.
How much you paid if you don’t mind me asking
The Cien concept car design language has aged really well for about 20 years now and these cars are the high point of that legacy. The wagon looks really clean. The overall design is futuristic without looking gaudy or too sharp and angry like modern cars are. I'd call this the gentlemen's jacket on wheels. Sleek and easy on the eyes.
Yes I've been waiting for this for sooooo long
Love my sedan. Just had lower pulley headers tune and few other goodies done. One of my favorite platforms of cars

I've had my 2011 CTS 3.6 Performance RWD for four years now. Threw some minor "expensive" upgrades at it. Upgraded coils, plugs, K&N Typhoon cold air intake, lowering springs, and a good but safe tune. Getting 347 at the wheels. Looking for a better converter but I haven't had any luck so far. Anyway, craving more power out of the beautiful gen 2 body style. Looking to get a V coupe towards the end of next summer. Will definitely take a sedan either way. I can't wait, it's been my dream car since the gen 2 came out. 3.6 daily driver, V a garage toy. Shooting for 750hp. I'll be satisfied with that. Been a Cadillac fan since I was little. My grandpa had a black '64, and it was better than anything I had ever seen!
There is a company that makes a bolt on supercharger for the second gen cts.
so spark plugs an intake and a tune gives you 350 whp? 😂 yeahhhhh..

Shit the 2006 year is still like 20k. 14 year old car for that price? Jesus. Can buy some new cars for that price
I just copped a 2019 V with only 15K km on the dash 🔥
I have a cts-v second generation and really like it. It's such an oddity of a car and that it is an older Cadillac, most don't think it's fast. Fun to chase down unsuspecting sport cars
As a prior V1 owner, get a 06-07 with the ls2. The ls1/ls6 platform is not great. It was my favorite car I’ve owned and buckets of fun. Mine sat on 19” ag m410s, coil overs, and some nt555. It looked great and held its own in the corners

I own a 2011 CTS-V. I have a cold air intake and Corsa exhaust. It is a great car. I almost bought a 2016 V3 because I like the new interior and electronics, but I couldn't justify the price vs performance. I'd race a V3. I might loose but it would be in a few tenths of a second. Love my LSA
Get a smaller pulley and a tune then I doubt you would lose!
My LSA CTSV sedan 6spd was fun, traded in for the last ISF sedan. Had another child so got a S4. Currently driving a FOB VA STI. S4 was cheapest to mod and was fastest stop light to stop light. Let me say this again, IT SOUNDS AMAZING!!! the pops, the crackles, the back fires are music and always the same but only with the manual transmission. if anything were to change within the engine I will hear it from the exhaust first.
