  • Is biblical faith blind? Or are there good reasons for thinking people to consider the claims of Christ? One line of evidence comes from a very ancient prediction in the Hebrew Bible. It details the life, death, and global impact of Jesus of Nazareth. Come explore this powerful prediction with James Rochford as he evaluates the evidence.

I realize that I made an overstatement above. I forgot to mention that there is a third century source from Origen (a Christian), stating that one of his interlocutors (Celsus) knew of some Jewish interpreters that were aware of the national interpretation of Isaiah 53. This is the only mention of the national interpretation before Rashi (11th century). Here is a footnote from my written work (James Rochford, Evidence Unseen: Exposing the Myth of Blind Faith, p.79, footnote 24). I hope this corrects my error :)
"In his book Contra Celsum, Origen records a debate with Celsus (who actually was against both Christianity and Judaism). In the debate, Origen writes that he argued with some learned Jews, who knew of the national interpretation of Isaiah 53. This means that this national interpretation was known in Jewish circles, but it simply didn’t stick (Origen Contra Celsum. Book 1. Chapter 55)."
