How to build ● a 2L Bottle Air Tank Array

- Using 2L pop coke bottles is a lightweight and easy way of storing compressed air! Use it instead of canned air. It's easy with nine 2L pop soda bottles joined together. Assembly is simple using nine 2L soda bottles and rubber valve inserts from a tubeless tire. No special fittings needed. Just use adhesive to stack the bottles together, then use hose to connect the 2L coke pop bottles together. Great for hobbyists and I.T. techs for dust removal and debris blow off from projects. Perfect canned air alternative. Is refillable and rechargeable canned air. Dust off electronics or makes a great computer cleaner. My upcoming project will be a mega 2L coke pop soda bottle air tank where I take 36 2L coke soda pop bottles and make an even simpler air tank.
These bottles are very strong but please do your research before inflating to determine a safe working pressure that you will feel safe with. People are creative and will come up with different ideas on how to use this so be safe.
One thing I forgot to mention in the video: All of the valve cores are removed before final assembly.

suggestion: use a step drill to drill your holes, saves a lot of time
awesome vid, the valve stem cutout was a real good touch, you earned my subscription.
Might try a step bit for drilling clean holes in thin material. Add a touch of vegetable oil to the stem to make it pull in easier.
Great job MacGyver!😎👍
4:20 kick that shit into the front yard lmao good test of structural integrity
Love it! To answer why do this, my answer at least, is because i live in an apt without space to keep an air compressor, even a small one, and i want to do things like blow dry my bicycle chain after i degrease it. I dont need compressed air every day and i also, frankly, dont want to blow $200 on an air compressor. I’m going to try a three bottle setup with three liter bottles. That i can just toss in my tools closet. Thanks!!,
Your vids are so cool. Glad I found this channel
Cool project. The Airpacitor.
What an idea sir👌
Fun to watch this stuff just so I know what to do when the world comes to an end
Kind of cool. Seems expensive. Enjoyed the video.
imagine if humanity had gone down the path of powering everything pneumatically instead of electrically, this thing is basically a big battery for air power
cant really compare...this would not even give 60 seconds of high pressure air. but yeah for emergencies in certain situations this would be really helpful.
Great for my friend dentist, who does not have a license!
You should have added a gauge to see how much psi you have
Overpressurized two-liter plastic bottles are also known as "instant finger & hand removers." Takes care of eyeballs and eardrums too...
would be good to see pressure measurements
Muito legal meu amigo ótima ideia. Like inscrição para fortalecer seu canal.
Nice video bro
Very good!
Very cool!
great idea
What an idea !
How many p.s.i do you use it at? I'm a bit worried inflating bottles past 40psi even though I've seen your controlled explosion tests..
You could run an airbrush with this nicely.
Oh cool, a bomb!
Well, that was inspiring.
Good idear
Hahaha puts so much care and work in and then kicks it across the yard
Can you make a air tank about 10 bottles of 20 litre ?
superb!
Nice
I was doing the math, and I go through an average of 37, 2-liter bottles a month. That's no typo. I had seen this video before, and it sparked an interest. -Revisiting to see what I could do with all those wasted bottles.
I figure I could turn them into 'blocks' of nine, and make a trunk of sorts to connect them. I would probably start off with what another commenter said about t-connections instead of routing to both ends. As I anticipate an end production size of about 81 bottles, not much pressure is dropped from each at a time, I would scale the lines from 1/4" up to 3/8" at blocks of 27 bottles. I plan to use with a compressor, so I would need a way to charge the bottles during use.
I am thinking that a 3/8" connection at the top of each of the banks of 27 should do the trick. I plan to use it for when I finally get around to re-painting my car. I only need about 40psi, but I need a LOT of air. Using this setup, is a little over 40 gallons of tank space. What's more, is that I can keep the 1/3HP compressor at 120psi, the 8G of steel air tanks I already own to output to the 2 liters at 70PSI, and with the 1qt. spray gun I have, I would guess my downtime refilling and cleaning should allow the tiny compressor to keep the whole system going with-out having to wait for air.
I painted my old truck a few years ago with the same 1/3HP, 3G compressor + 5Gallon tank. It was terrible. I spent so much time waiting for the air pressure to come back up.
Sounds like you have thought it out. Have you looked into making a silent air compressor with an old fridge compressor. Not sure if that would even interest you. They do take time to fill but they are silent. Lots on you tube about them. Good luck.
You may also be interested in my latest video. I tested 15 2L pop bottles with compressed air until they explode with actual readings .ruclips.net/video/SDTvjJZlnR8/видео.html
I build air and water rockets using a variety of plastic soda bottles. NEW, they USUALLY withstand 120 psi. I have purposely overpressuriezed a few with bicycle pump, and they explode by 150psi throwing deadly shrapnel. The plastic immediately starts to deteriorate upon exposure to sunlight, etc, and after time and use can explode at well below 100 psi. Use safety glasses and never pressurize these things unless you are at least 20 feet away (shrapnel does not fly too far) and wear safety glasses.
I did another video on how much pressure they can withstand. A few of the smaller bottle had been in the sun for months ......ruclips.net/video/vPje04ctUeY/видео.html
He kicked those bunch of bottles...hahahahahaah
Good idea
should have heated the holes after drilling, removes any burrs and sharp edges.
Very good

That's so cool, I just need something to help me clean the small holes in my small carburetor. I have a air tank from my paintball gun and a tire electric pump. I want to connect them both, so you know? to clean my carb
Lube your valve stems with KY jelly OR lemon pledge. They will seat easier, less chance for damage. When working at a full service station we used some kind of banana based lube. Didn't cost much I was told but a bottle of it lasted longer then I worked at the station (several summers)
How long can you survive underwater with that large amount of air inside the bottles? Pls test it
For all the commenters complaining that it's 'cheaper' to just go buy a tank than to actually use one's BRAIN to be creative... Incorrect and using ones brain is actually PRICELESS!!
First, a project like this isn't about [what's the cheapest way to get the widget in your hands]. It's however 100% about using ones' head to be creative and actually invent something from ones' own grey matter; instead of relying on every other person in the world to 'make' what one needs/wants.
As for buying a prefabricated tank being cheaper, try using ones brain to actually SEARCH the internet for the parts and their cost before spitting out a bogus and completely incorrect sentence of words.
One can get a bag of 25 valves for 7 bucks [EBAY](possibly less as that was just a quick search),
clamps from a dollar store for a couple bucks, and 200 psi 1/4" air hose for $0.46/foot online, (probably less if I actually took time to search longer). Tube of silicone, what, $1.50(ish)
Total build price for parts with 8 foot of hose, $14.18(ish).
The cheapest tank I seen, in a VERY quick search, was a 5 gallon portable for $30 bucks from harbor freight. Sure, I [completely] agree that one 'might' be able to find an even cheaper tank. But just remember that one is also going to be able to find the needed parts in this build cheaper as well.
While I do agree that ingenuity has it's place, and I can appreciate the quality of this piece, it doesn't make sense to build one. You could either find a tank at a yard sale or craigslist for cheap or, as you mentioned, but one from Harbor freight. No, you don't get the satisfaction of "I created this.", but you can hold 100+psi of air which is much more useful as a tool.
Nice work these old plastic bottles have so many uses.
tnks!!
im from México City and i just want to tell yoy that you are an amazing and creative gay, in fact i have many ideas from this project and i would like to share you when i finish my own project. im sorry about my english if i have made mistakes.

step drills(even the cheap one) works great in plastic
+Steve Lamar I've seen those and was going to get one and try. Thanks for the suggestion and for commenting.
+Chris Notap I don't see why you didn't just use the bigger bit to begin with.. Those bottles are pretty forgiving.
i forgot to add - great effort. Not everyone can do this.
I'd be very wary of using this thing for any more than a half dozen cycles.
Virgin soda bottles are rated for 250psi. From what I've seen on here anecdotally a once cycled 2 liter bottle gives out pretty consistently between 120 & 150psi. How many cycles are possible and what kind of degradation occurs over time are complete unknowns.
If someone wanted to set up a controlled environment and burn through a hundred bottles or so they'd have a subscriber in me. If it turns out 2 liter bottles can be cycled hundreds of times so long as you don't exceed 100psi or something could open up all kinds of possibilities for use around the house and shop.
They are used in large model aircraft at 90-100psi for retracts. They do wrap them with string. I think polyester or kevlar because it does not stretch. I have used them for water rockets at 90 psi and none have burst. For a fun test, we drove over an unpressurized one with a vehicle on packed gravel and it did not bust.
@@solarsynapse Huh? I've seen the aluminum refillable bottles for retracts on RC WWII era warbirds before. Those are only about the size of a can of squeeze cheese or air freshener or something. Those must go on bombers or a larger scale than I'm used to.
Now that I think about a lot plastics structurally do tend to be stable as long as they aren't overstressed, are kept away from UV light, and don't endure too many heat cycles. I'm not saying I'd put one between my legs to hold as it's being pressurized but there is no reason especially if it's wrapped in something that would stop a bubble forming (no need to get fancy a twine or nylon rope should be plenty) you couldn't cycle a 2 litre up to 100psi and down pretty much indefinitely.
If you rigged up a small pump and some sort of a pressure switch it may outlast a metal tank anywhere that has really high humidity or a lot of salt spray in the air?
@@DavidHoskins The problem with nylon is that it can stretch as much as 5 times it's size and polyester like baling twine does not.
Synthetic baling twine is polypropylene.
nice
that is probibly better than my air compressor
how much safe pressure your bottle set up could handle ? when all of the 9 bottles combined
just tell me the average safe pressure ...pls
This would make a sick nerf gun lol
gotta play with my little cousins
despite the safety issues (one could use epox to further seal the caps and the valves) a test with a manometer would be really interesting! You could just go to a gas station and fill it it up.. :D
Very creative
Thanks.
Charcoal fluid helps as an adhesive solvent as well; you'll just need to clean the surface with some soapy water to wash away the flammable solvent.
Any petroleum product will work. Engine oil, gasoline, charcoal fluid, penetrating fluid,WD 40 and many more. Choose the one with the least mess and little clean up. WD40 for me is perfect.
The only thing missing is a pressure gauge to prevent overinflation.
That is cool! Glad it helped your daughter. How many did you end up attaching together?
After you get the 9 bottles glued together, at 5:07 in the video, do you have to put the pins back into the tubeless tire valves. before putting the 1/4" air hose onto the tubeless tire valves or do the pins stay out?
The valve core/pins stay out.
@@chrisnotap Only one stays in though, the one with the nozzle? Right?
Correct.
@@chrisnotap How did you make the valve off? Can you please clarify it? Take the pins off directly?
what pressure is sufficient for the dusting application? Is it stronger than a can of compressed air?
mmmm i will start to paint cars with that
You could save half the work by using T fittings and only 1 valve, wrapping each bottle in duck tape may increase pressure capacity. Cool build though add sound next time.
Most of my videos are doing things on the cheap. T fittings were way to expensive and would need too many clamps even on ebay. The sound may get added soon. A few of my commenter have suggested the same. Thanks for the feedback.
I would try to add a pressure gauge on the exit nozzle so you can know how much air you have in the tank at a glance and see when it needs refilling. Of course you'd have to figure out how much pressure it can steadily hold long term, but some basic math would help there.
cool
for diving under water :))swiming
Try to PVC pipe with caps on both side. Its shape and strengh will efficiently hold more volume & psi... at the same length &
diameter, and only 6 stacks of pvc pipe can hold equal compressed air as the 9 bottles do..
Some painting will make it looks even cooler..
+Andy K As far i knew PVC doesn't shatter into pieces. It just breaks or tears at its weakest spot if it's given certain pressure,
unless, if it directly exposed to sun in a very long time period.. Excessive UV ray can change the molecular structure of PVC and make it brittle.
Btw, there are some types of PVC pipe according their uses. Certain type can hold up to 200psi.
The use of this air container is temporary, i mean it's not made to keep the pressurized air continuously as the air tank on a compressor, so i think there's no worry about excessive pressure.
This ASMR BIG TIME!!!
Super
I so want that
Hi, Nice demonstration, and idea. thanks. Since most of the ones that you show explode ,in the other video, start failing at the cap first, have you tried to epoxy the caps and then test the proof PSI? Thanks,
+Rafi Shaheenian I may be doing another video with that in mind. Thanks for commenting.
very very good idea,,,, thanks.... how much pressure support.....
Why did you connect them in series and not in parallel? Seems like the restriction going through each valve will diminish the flow rate substantially. Have you ever tried a parallel configuration?
Are you using TR-413 type for the tubeless tire valves?
You can use any size you like, but yes I think it was.
I gonna build this! Any ideas about diy air "tools"?
Have you ever checked what psi you fill the bottles up to?
Gostei!
I think it will be better to use 1.5lt coke bottles as they are less vulnerable in the middle due to pressure, and eventually keep the caps and replace them all before they grow weaknesses.
60psi will be a logical pressure for this to work long term,i would use it one time to 100psi,i don't believe plastic bottles flying on your head can cause injury but who wants to get scared to hell if they blow when in the middle of something anyways.

How many litres of air can you compress in this? have you tried filling baloons from this device?
can this compressor use for paint.??
Use 3ltr bottles for large capacities…..12-27-2023 👍🏻🇺🇸
Nice job but I don't have compressed air to fill it with!
Could that be done with a foot pump?
Yes.
Is it water proof I am making it for my diy Submarine
Just seal it with tape
para bem gostel muito
you don't need so many valves, one per bottle is enough, just conect them with T joints.
I would like to built this air tank, but I have 2 doubts before I start with the project:
1. Which is the flow you will have? I mean with is the ratio liters/min you will have at a certain pressure?
2. How do you introduce air at the tank? I understand that in your video you use an air compressor, but I don't have an air compressor, just a bicycle pump? Can I pre-pressurized this air tank with that bicycle pump?
nekovolta2
The fart that I produced on a daily basis has more air and pressure than that tank array.
Wouldn't it be great to have a portable tire pump with a gauge as a DIY project instead of forking out quarters to fill up a tire for up to 30 seconds per dollar, or getting a new tire pump once every 2 months? I can see that as a project.
Just wondering if this design would power an impact gun
isso aí vamos estocar o "vento"
depois enriquecer na falta do vento.. kkk
can you upgrade 2L coke bottle air presure
how many bars of pressure can it stay without leaking?
