It is either a translation error or just BS at 1:21 - the Stridsvagen 122 has an effective engagement range of about 4km, not 11km. As much as I wish the Ukrainians to have a range that far this just isn't true.
Letsmakeourownfood - you mean God bless ukrainians for fighting USA's war against Russia??? Paying heavily with their lives for it???? And I'm definately not a russian fan!!!
It is interesting to see the Ukrainian men and compare how they stand up against one of the biggest countries in the world. While, for example, Afghans with their Western-armed and trained military in superior numbers fled from a few terrorists, leaving the country in chaos.
I've served in Afghanistan at the time. The Afghan army was more like a bunch of security guys - only lightly armed and sketchily trained. And that was on purpose, because we don't wanted a strong Afghan army before the country was political stable. In hindsight, that might have been misplaced caution. And about the numbers: The Afghan army had 180,000 men in service - officially. It later turned out that it was just about 50,000, the rest were more ore less paper soldiers - enlisted, but never trained or deployed to any post. Or they just got a uniform and a gun and spend their day pretending to be a soldier. But even the official 180,000 men wouldn't have been enough. Keep in mind, Afghanistan is more than 250,000 sq mi in size, has a lot of difficult to access terrain and no traffic infrastructure to speak of. Even peaceful countries have more soldiers per area. Basically, the Taliban just needed to move around pretending to be civilians, gather troops near any Afghan military installation and swoop down on the dozen or so "real" soldiers and a bunch of guys pretending to be soldiers. Also, with western troops withdrawing, the Afghan army lost support of heavy vehicles and - what's even more important - air support. From a military perspective, the outcome was quite predictable at this point. Politicians of western countries officially expressed hope, the Afghan army could stand their ground, but that was a charade. They all knew the state the Afghan army was in, but of course they couldn't say "Yeah, we kept them weak for security reasons, so that's that, sorry."
@@marcromain64 Thank you for your post and insight. It is shocking to read, as many European countries have also trained Afghan soldiers and security forces there. I also had the impression that the West had abandoned the country. But I was not aware of the dimensions. In the end, it was two decades in which the country was occupied for nothing. On the contrary, the Taliban are probably even more radical and worse to the population today than they were in the last century. I take back my comparison with Ukraine.
@@fangan4770 Glad to hear. But please allow me an adddendum: I don't think the intervention was for nothing. Twenty years of _relative_ peace account for something, even with too many things done wrong and main goals missed. In these two decades, a whole generation grew up which knows that there's more than the Taliban could ever offer. These teens and tweens and many of their parents will not follow the Taliban willingly and those don't have the means to change the hearts and minds of the Afghan majority. They will possibly come out of their fighting age without having enough successors and then at the latest a new attempt can be made.
I also heard from those who were there training ANA and ANP that it was often a few dollars that determined if an afghan soldier was taliban or ANA, and it could change from day to day.
All you hear is "This tank, this tank, this tank, this tank" This tank is on fire. And Brits are afraid to send more Chally 2s since a few of them got humiliated.
18 months training in Sweden? That isn’t the normal tank crew training. With basic military training and some more stuff outside of tank training we have 15 months for the tank commander and 10 for the other crew members

"And a swedish made aiming and firing controll which is far better then the standard." Hardly to believe that simply because when it comes to the Leopard 2 there is no "standard". There are countless of Leopard 2 versions around.

Stridsvagn 122 is a Leopard 2a5 with add-on German MEXAS-H composite armor package on the hull and additional roof, with the French GALIX countermeasures system. The Strv 122B added the same mine protection kit as used in the 2A6M. Strv 122C and D variants will be fitted with a new commander’s thermal sight that includes a laser rangefinder. The Swedish Army is also considering replacing the L44 cannons on their Strv 122s with L55s and buying additional composite armor modules for their tanks.
Sweden brought the world a lot.Velcro etc,.. but they made the 🌎 strongest chains and if this technology was put into the tracks,..they’d be very tough to break/ wear…
It's a Leopard2 A5 with thicker armor on top of the turret. Unfortunately it only has the old L44 gun, not the newer, more powerful l55 gun on the 2A6 and newer models. If you like exotic Leopard 2 models, you should check the Evo, Revolution, SG and RI versions. Sweden has made a deal with Rheinmetall to upgrade their tanks. Hopefully the upgrade includes the L55A1 gun that's on the Challenger 3 and the newest leopard 2 versions.
A few of these tanks have been hit, already. What is notable is that they are designed so that the crews survive. The tanks may also be reparable. The Soviet designs seem to blow right up readily almost always leaving a pile of scrap and three incinerated crew members. Not may Russians are walking away from their tank hits.
These Soviet constructions never had a separate ammo compartment, turrets go flying when hit. In this video you can see the hatch between these compartments in the Stridsvagn. For extracting ammo you have to open it of course. The most extrem example of defending the crew is the Israeli armored fighting vehicle Namer. The crew and the 8 infantrists are secured by Merkava tank armour as this IFV is based on the Merkava.
The Swedes sent 8% of their total stock of these tanks. That is quite some gesture. I wish every country was as forthcoming.
If you’re Swedish. Than you mate!

It is either a translation error or just BS at 1:21 - the Stridsvagen 122 has an effective engagement range of about 4km, not 11km. As much as I wish the Ukrainians to have a range that far this just isn't true.
I'd say a translation error, but I'd have to have a Ukrainian speaker to confirm it.
I'm really curious if they feel if there is a difference in performance between the Leo2 variants from different countries?
They should do since they carry different guns and different electrics among other things
Exactly. So it would be interesting to read/hear what works and what doesn't..@@l0ranga
They do, there was a longer interview with a tank crew that compared STRV 122 and Leo2 A6 from Germany.
Well done Sweden 🇸🇪 United we stand, divided we fall. Everyone in Europe has to remember that
Yes other ukrainian troops might envy them for having a leo 2 but for the russians they´re a higly valuable target.

The drama in Russia is that they will never win this war and they know it.

The swedish type got 3 tons more armour on front and top/roof, a special composit thats produced in Sweden so not just regular add on of same metal.
And a swedish made aiming and firing controll which is far better then the standard.
"And a swedish made aiming and firing controll which is far better then the standard."
Hardly to believe that simply because when it comes to the Leopard 2 there is no "standard". There are countless of Leopard 2 versions around.
@@kodor1146 The standard as in Leopard 2A6 produced by the german company Rheinmetal
@@Lassemalten Leopard 2A6 is not the "standard" Leopard. What are you talking. Aagain, there is no such thing as a "standard" Leopard. several countries got Leopards and use it it different versions not to mention the stocks of the industry.
@@kodor1146 Of course there is thats why everyone says Leoaprd 2 and use the word Stridsvagn 122 for the swedish type of Leopard 2A6
@@Lassemalten "Of course there is"
No there is not, what the hell are you talking?! There are I guess 18 different Leopard 2 versions around.

Out of all the leopard versions I think Sweden makes the best it looks so much better than the German leopards
Sweden produce som much top tier materiel it is insane.
You can´t say that. It all depends on better at what? But, the Swedish-built version of the Leopard, is ranked......very, very.....high 🤣
Sweden brought the world a lot.Velcro etc,.. but they made the 🌎 strongest chains and if this technology was put into the tracks,..they’d be very tough to break/ wear…
" it looks so much better"
It´s a Leopard in what way does it look different O_o
It's a Leopard2 A5 with thicker armor on top of the turret. Unfortunately it only has the old L44 gun, not the newer, more powerful l55 gun on the 2A6 and newer models.
If you like exotic Leopard 2 models, you should check the Evo, Revolution, SG and RI versions.
Sweden has made a deal with Rheinmetall to upgrade their tanks. Hopefully the upgrade includes the L55A1 gun that's on the Challenger 3 and the newest leopard 2 versions.
Why they are only showing the back of the tank?
A few of these tanks have been hit, already. What is notable is that they are designed so that the crews survive. The tanks may also be reparable. The Soviet designs seem to blow right up readily almost always leaving a pile of scrap and three incinerated crew members. Not may Russians are walking away from their tank hits.
Surprise any... their tanks are suppose to be wet shit paper in comparison to Western armor.
