It is really disappointing that one would cover Thomas Paine's Common Sense, and make literally zero mention of the fact that he used an appeal to Faith as his primary argument against the validity of all (not just tyrannical) Monarchies. Thomas based his argument not just on an observed abuse of power by kings/queens/etc. historically, but on a combination of the understanding, derived through application of critical thinking, that a king which needed to be checked by Parliament was inherently unworthy, and that Scripture (common to nearly all of Europe as a singular authority) described the very office of Kingship as inherently corrupt, heathen, and profane.

I possess the basic capacity to understand the context of the time, and research and judge any mistakes I think you might have made on my own. I also possess the basic wisdom to still appreciate how you break down Paine's arguments, as we can still gain a great deal of insight from it to improve future society. This was good thank you. Let us not forget the contribution to liberty that was made earlier in the century when the play Cato by Joseph Adelson crossed the Atlantic; and prompted the founders of America to consider our becoming a Republic. Fact is they were always quipping from it. Steeped in Cicero, a Republican, it appealed to the astute among them; while Common Sense made good sense to everyone else; because as Paine insisted the break with England was inevitable.

Great question! After the Revolutionary War, Thomas Paine visited France where he was arrested. (He was mistaken for an aristocrat and also had a conflict with some powerful people there) He felt like George Washington didn’t do enough to support him during that time and even believed that Washington and others had secretly worked with the French in his arrest! He published a public letter expressing his anger towards Washington and was heavily criticized by the Americans because Washington was very popular.

The creator failed to mention that Paine was against many of the views of the founding fathers. He legit talked smack about them for their ignorance in saying "all men are equal" when they in fact were not talking about all men. Paine was a hero in standing up against their hypocritical views, so this is also why.

Paine was not for more representative demoracy, he favored more direct democracy. He also did NOT like the idea of an executive... hmm wonder why... executive-monarchy very similar... Paine was ahead of his time. Im proud to say I definitely wouldve been at his funeral, and yes, for most of his controversial ideas like how organized religion was 💩

You need to see the other side, the side of the loyalist. Paine was a radical. James Chalmer's response to "Common Sense", saying it was Invalid and Barberic. He wrote "Plain Truth" which is about staying loyal to Britain. I think we should have too.
