Without something to let you see the cards? Ooof... that is *completely* chaotic, then. Not sure how you'd substitute for the fact that you can't really use VMUs in emulation, but I imagine there's some mods out there for it? Used to play a bunch of this game, and it always felt like you had *more* movement control than Mario Party, but this way gives so much LESS, lol. Definitely still entertaining to see, but, like, it's also not nearly as much of a fever dream when you can see the cards. Or... okay, it's definitely still a fever dream, but there's a BIT of agency, what with deciding between using your own cards or gambling on someone else's (often to try and limit their own options, or some such). Honestly, it has more interesting board play than Mario Party, in my experience, but the minigames can be so hilariously jank by comparison, and also there's a *tier list*, because of character-specific spaces and such, so it's just all over the place in general. GUYS, you have to play this on official hardware, or play single player. I'm not about to try and convince you the game is good (I personally enjoy it), but you are LITERALLY missing a crucial component: The cards in your hand are shown to you on the Dreamcast VMU memory cards...in multiplayer. The entire point is that you get to CHOOSE a card from your hand to land on exactly the space you intend to. So if you know you need that bubble space, for example, and it's 4 spaces away, you can pick a 4 if you have one. If you don't, it shows you how many have been used, so you can decide if taking another player's card in hopes for a 4 is worth the risk. Likewise, you can plan another soace to land on with the cards you DO have. There's actually very little luck based moments in this game, the few that are truly luck based are the "pick one of 3" events.
Lol! Every time I see someone playing this now, I can’t not think of the “the Carbuncle ate itself” moment when the GameGrumps played it, showing how weird this game can get.
