When the wealthy and ambitious Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) funds an expedition to Antarctica, he hopes to find a mysterious source of heat that has been detected. i always loved this movie cause it showed that Predators are not just killing machines that kill everything in sight. If they have a common enemy they can become allies with humans.
predators don't kill everything in sight. they have always been hunters, they don't just senselessly kill everything. they have honor and show respect for anybody who proves themselves to be a strong warrior, no matter what planet they come from.

I know a lot of people think this is an inferior movie, but AVP was my introduction to both the Alien and Predator franchises, and I legit love it. It's far from the perfect horror or action film, and it has glaring flaws, but it's the perfect mashup between two classic scifi icons. Imagine being a kid when this came out, roughly between 12-14 years old, and seeing the facehuggers crawl out of their eggs like that and having that be your first impression.
I am a huge fan of both the predator(s) and the alien(s) (in that order). I am also a huge fan of the Alien and the Predator movies (yes, in that order). AVP always seemed to me to be a wasted opportunity: fantastic premise, dissapointing result. However, I do see your point. If you start by watching AVP, and then watch either the Alien or Predator movies, I think the experience only gets better. I wish I could do that! Cheers!

As far as the franchises go, I’d rate AVP as 3rd in each franchise. Only behind the first two Alien movies and the first two Predator movies for me.

I like the fact that the eggs were used as a boobytrap for any people who raided the area. I also love the fact that the predator worked with the human
They weren't used as a booby trap. They were set up so they would appear right when the Unblooded Predators took their plasma casters. It would signify that the hunt was okay to start. The people were mainly used as breeding vessels for the Xenomorphs so the hunt could start. Remember in ancient times people willingly sacrificed themselves to breed Xenomorphs. They considered it a great honor.

This is NOT a bad movie, at all...Maybe people were expecting something different if their only reference was the previous movies, but as a fan of the comics , I felt this movie was so legit. It packs lots of great Predator lore into a tight little package. I'd also speak up for "Predators" the same way. If any franchise deserved a cinematic universe it's the Aliens and Predator series, because they're so many great characters and stories in both universes, besides the creatures. But I'd take this movie over "THE Predator" any day. And YES, that spinning reverse spear move at 07:24 was worth the price of admission alone!

Same universe. AVP and Requiem's ending sets up the original Alien perfectly, unlike Prometheus and Covenant.

I love how AVP fleshed out the honour code of the Predator. It further proves how unlike the Xenomorph, they’re not mindless creatures with zero regard for sentient life. Predators will spare children, the elderly, and the vulnerable. Xenomorphs won’t.
Well the Xenomorphs are pretty much just wild animals, the predators are actually sentient life. Meaning they’re actually not just mindless creatures. They clearly have the ability to think and problem solve it especially with all that high-tech they have.

That 360 move in the air by Scar was the smoothest most cleanest attack a Predator has done. you would think the Predators are slow as far as height and weight but Scar had agility and quickness just not quick enough to avoid that facehugger unfortunately. Scar will always be my favorite Predator. Rip Scar
Say what you want about this movie but you have to hand it to the team for keeping the CGI to a minimum and going mostly practical.
Also, that Predator spinning stab move at 7:24 is cool af.
Even the C.G. is pretty decent. Only effects in this movie that really suck are the blood effects. They even use them on the knives and they look so bad.

The ever so luscious Sanaa Lathan branded as a hunter was just marvelous. This was a dope assed movie. Forget the critics. I loved this movie... It ties the lore of the books to the big screen. I have an extensive collection of books and toys behind this franchise.

3 predators were featured prominently in this movie. Of those 3 predators, 2 died within 5 minutes of each other and neither of them managed to kill a single Xenomorph. The 3rd one manages to kill a few, but gets nabbed by a facehugger because despite having awesome reflexes and senses mere minutes earlier, becomes blindsided it.
The titular characters weren’t in it while fighting each other enough would be my primary gripe.
@@thepretentiousgentleman Not just that but the 2 that died were like super slow wrestler type builds which at the time didn't make a lot of sense so their fight scenes were stupid as hell. What gets me is the last one that died got basically speared through all in the midsection, then magically in the next movie the alien was still able to continue growing in there and pop out later. Redeeming thing about this movie was the coolness of a Predator blooding a human and working together, but die by the usual get tail-stabbed through the back while not paying attention. They should have had at least one of those other preds who were just chilling and watching the whole time come down and help take out that queen cause it was a waste of a good warrior.

To get to the elder rank you need the mark. It means thousands of trophies in his possession. It's in the Predators story

Predators have several "ranks" in their clan structure.
Children, unblooded (has the dreadlocks, which is a very painful procedure and didn't flinch during it (have to start again if they do), and they have never hunted a xenomorph), blooded (basic qualification to be a hunter, traditionally a clan leader has to apply the mark, this film gets that wrong), clan leader, and elder.
A clan leader (a clan can have several, but 1 is an alpha) has to have with minimal help (2 other blooded predators), cleared an entire xenomorph hive (has to have above a minimum number of xenomorphs to count) and killed the queen.
An elder ontop of that, needs to have done it several times, solo, oh and is several hundred (nearly 1000) years old.
Specialist hunters are often at the level of clan leader, or working on that qualification.
All this btw comes from the graphic novels, the Yautja have a very complex and strict social structure. Also non-yaujta can join them as hunters, if they are blooded, as it is a sign of honor. They can be a little racist about it though.
Also dispite common appearances, they handicap themselves massively when hunting, their military grade weapons are basically forbidden. They bid for hunts by wagering on taking worse/less gear than the others in the clan.
Watched the full film at least a hundred times! Underrated Gold

This movie is great, I don't care what anyone says. The main protagonist helped a blooded predator take down an alien queen, then was rewarded with the markings of their tribe and the spear of an elder. That's good writing right there.

this is still an excellent movie to watch i watch this last week sometimes you wanna watch a movie again years later to see what you missed the first or second time.
I like the idea of a Predators fighting alongside humans only after the predators found the strongest and bravest humans worthy of fighting with them but the script needs to be written by someone who knows what the Predator Fan’s wanna see (even if takes a while it will be worth the wait 💯👍🏾
This film was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and I felt it was well written along with being very visual, I got to admit it is better that the last couple of Predator and Alien Reboot films that have come out over the past 10 years.
I had hope for this movie based on how good the first Resident Evil movie was, but it turned out to be total SHIT

Paul W.S Anderson is such a strange director. The guy can put out some really great films and other times he churns out just total hot shit. I personally always liked this movie, it's a childhood favorite and Event Horizon is one of his best but after how bad his Resident Evil movies ended up its hard to know what you'll get outta him.

Critics has really washed this movie... Actually the fact is Alien vs Predator is not as bad as the critics says. Yah I agree the movie has lack of charector development, lack of nostalgic feel & many other loopholes.., But the stylisation in action scenes are well choreographed & bringing two greatest nostalgic antagonists (Predator & Alien) together is a good idea.

I agree. On it's own it's a fun movie, is not serious. The fact that it is cross linked/borrows from other movies means it can be compared, and this movie is disappointing by comparison. Predator and Alien/s exists as points of comparison. Comparison is all we have really to judge anything.
Ignirium the scene where the ores picks up the zenomorph is one of the coolest thing u will c a preferred do goosebump moment but must agree original still beats all

Would have been good to have her character in a sequel where she is some kind of a predator diplomat and a seasoned warrior.
This was roughly based on a book/comic and the human in that series goes with the Predators and is mostly accepted as part or the clan for a while. Later she does kindof act as a diplomat between them and humans.
