At this point. It appears that ivry is there to keep her energy consistent. A build and control so she doesnt lose focus. She is easily guided still. Needing direction. Unlike a master where they literally bond with the piece and almost become vacant to reality. He is helping her to understand this and feel the music as it flows so one day she can just space out and play from the heart as he does
Good evening!!! I'm from Brazil and I'm not sure how you know my violin parabens, who would one day play the half he plays !!!! Maybe one day he will have the privilege of playing along with me !!!! kkkkkk. I want a big hug, my lord !!!!
I fully agree with this girls interpretation. What was ivri gitlis trying to add? Maybe he was feeling the absence of a full orchestra? היא כנראה לא יהודיה?
He has a mute on so he can play with no sound. I think he has his violin out so he can demonstrate something if he wants her to play it differently y'know?
Come on, everybody knows this piece, ...probably the most famous and most played violin concerto ever written. OK, the 1st movement is perhaps easier to recognise than the finale. The girl is very good.
Ok, no offence. I'm also a beginner, played the violin for less than 1 year and I'm 68 years old! I will never be able to play the Mendelson, but I listen to a lot of violin music, so I recognize most of the big violin concertos (Mendelson, Bruch, Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovski, Sibelius etc) I think listening to great violinists helps me to improve intonation. Try! My level now is: as an example I'm able to play Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler, try it, its not that difficult, no dubblestops and 1st and 3 position is OK, even it the score says something else, a few harmonics that I usually neglect. To play it really beautiful is a different story, I'm working on that!
The student plays wonderfully, but how does it help her for Mr. Gitlis to sing *while she is playing*? IMHO his singing short parts of phrases while she plays serves only to distract the student and the listeners. I think it would be far better for him to keep quiet during the performance, and offer his comments afterwards.
It's supposed to be educational. An experienced musician can bring out the best in young performers. Young performers go too hard in the beginning and end up short-winded. Ivry is actually conducting her and giving cues that, though ridiculous to us, must have been enriching to her. That's the whole idea behind Masterclasses. In other words, the audience's pleasure is not the point of this performance, and definitively not that of some virtual RUclips horde that barely know their Mendelssohn!
Honestly, I don't mind the singing and it's either he is feeling the flow or he just want to make sure the violinist gets the staccato and rhythm on point. It doesn't serve as a distraction but more of a suggestion in how to get the piece down in his opinion. Any person who has played a musical instrument know to look for constrictive criticism and critiques as valuable learning steps especially if It's a master class with a virtuoso.
C'mon, baby, he is a Master. He does whatever he wants to. And Mendelssohn he has been playing with absolute perfection since the beginning of the Fifties. It was a privilege for the girl to be heard by the master and of course he was moved by her performance. I've found no difference between her performance and that from the master, which was made in 1954, if I quite recall, for Vox Records. She already is one of the greatest, remember this name : Marie Rossano. Beware,Hillary!
I've attended multiple Master Classes and spoken to many, many violin students about what 'they' expect from such classes; ...they're almost unanimous response is ''distractions, stress, criticism and harassment'', but all in a loving and funny, manner. ~ Why-?, ...because, they've told me; ''if'' you can play, and play well under such ''||}*@^{$#%||'' conditions, then it toughens-up your focus and determination to successfully perform on stage, especially if something should go wrong. Master Classes for students [and 'they' know what they're going to experience] is like an Emotional Military 'Boot-Camp; only the strong survive.
@Alin Dudas - the pianist in this video is so brilliant, and plays so effortlessly, that I've been looking through the comments trying to find her name.
Well played. Also Gitlis never stopped the play like many many others master class.
Bravo to the young lady playing the violin, bravo!
Divni Ivri....Srecna su deca kojima taj nezni covek prenosi veliko znanje.

no... she couldve played it just as well without gitlis being senile on the side

Does anybody know the name of the piece?
It's the finale from Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor op.64.
Mauro Pinotti I mentioned it the description - both in Hebrew and Englishץ you may have to scroll down a little bit.

Not for a beginner, i'm still on Andantino from Suzuki.

@@pablobrener4890 Yes. At this level the fiddle player is not distracted at all - possibly a lesser violinist would be but, not Marie....

The girl played better than Gitlis, although Gitlis was good. Here he did everything to get attention away from the girl. Sad.
The girl is very good. excellent. But Gitlis is Gitlis; simply the best violonist of XX century....
take it back
You're absolutely mad. Both were fabulous. Swing low, sweet chariot!
please replace this frustrated and angry piano woman... she is not part of this succesful piece.
