Erika, that looks like so much fun! I recognize the Wills Wing logo, but which model is it? It seems easy to fly. This is really a fun video to watch. Thanks!
Thanks! This is a Condor 330 training glider. It’s designed to be easy to fly but it can’t be flown at high altitudes and is really only good for specific sites like this one 🙂 it was replaced by the Alpha 235 which can be flown in the mountains
I am over 50. But I really want to try this . There is a spot in my home town that I always thought would be the perfect take off place. & I've never seen anyone do this in my life. Anyway when I was about 15 or 16 on my way up to hike up Tillamook head trail. On the road going up. There is a spot that probably has a house on it now. But the ground was flat and clear and about a 30yrd by 30 yard area that was on about a 150yrd drop off over the Ocean. I thought it looked like a good spot for that.
This looks like the a glider we used to teach with, called a Hiway Stubby. If we were teaching at the top of the hill and it was windy enough, we used to rig them at the bottom and fly them up to the top, taking off from a low bump on the hill and floating up a couple of hundred feet.
Great video! That looks so relaxing. You'll get even higher in a faster wing (mansplaining). Lift increases with velocity. Even at a higher wing loading. It took me Forever to finally come to grips with that. But I do love a floater. There's my two cents, you probably already knew :P
Haha no worries! We fly smaller/faster gliders when we have the wind for it, but we usually don’t here. It’s fun flying all of them but I have to say the 330 is my favorite
Looks wonderful, but I’d be paranoid that the wind would lift me _WAAAYY_ higher than I’d want to go, and I’d end up caught in some high-tension wires.
@@erikajklein is it possible to build your own... I'm an American living in Delicias Chihuahua Mexico..and don't have much capital. What material is the actual glider made of... thanks
@@AquilesEsquivelMadrazo-z8v it’s possible but super dangerous. We only fly certified gliders and you shouldn’t try it without training. There are places to learn in Mexico though, and used gear can be affordable
I'd love to do that again. Would you like a pod harness? I have one that that was never used that I'd sell for super cheap. Good for a person about 5' 7" plus or minus.
Thanks! I actually got my own custom pod a few months ago as it was very hard to find a used one in my size; the one you have might’ve been close 🙂 it shouldn’t be hard to sell and there are several hang gliding gear groups on Facebook where you can list it 🙂
You keep popping up on my reels. You actually have me wanting to do this here in Florida on the beach. How long have you been doing this and how did you start. ?
Sorry I missed this! I started right here at this beach in LA. Start with basic hang gliding lessons (there are several schools in Florida) and once you know how to launch, fly, and land the glider, you can work on dune flying like this 🙂 definitely get instruction though for safety!
I think it would be SO much fun to do! AND a question? What are those tires on your handlebar for? (isn't that extra weight?) Healthy and friendly greetings from the Netherlands! Rob
This is mainly a training glider and the wheels are for our students in case they fall over while landing, the wheels will catch them. The extra weight doesn’t really matter 🙂

Seems like the answer to how do you stay up is, "I don't know."
The wind hits the ridge and is deflected upward. As long as we steer the glider so it stays within that rising air, we can stay up
