- I got my first job in the Animation Industry! I am freelancing in-house at Warner Bros. on the new Bugs Bunny Series 'Wabbit' doing Character Designs and Props. In this people sketching video I talk about my experiences breaking in, and some of the lessons I've learned so far.

Congrats on the WB job! I don't do your genre of work but am inspired by your sketching. I know what you mean when you talk about working "in-house" and the creative energy that flows between you and other professionals. Having worked for several years in an ad agency and among other great artists it can be huge for our artistic development. Sometimes I miss it (I'm a freelancer also) and its one of the reasons I watch videos of people like you. I still feel like I'm there rubbing shoulders with other pros and learning from them. Best of luck with your WB projects. Looking forward to hearing more.
It's always funny how projects in the animation industry takes you over, and subtle or overt stylistic elements of it just seeps into your own personal stuff. Fascinating how your people sketching videos went from the more observational caricature to the clean, schematized and optimised TV look on the last one.
Keep up the good work! Hearing you get all giddy about an industry that lost its lustre to me has been very refreshing. Maybe I shouldn't give up on this grinding machine.

Yay! Another People Sketching Video! I am still pretty young and have a while until I even graduate High School but I always find these videos really fascinating and full of good advice! Also congrats on your job at Warner Brothers! It was well deserved and can't wait to see more! :D

Outstanding, Will! A job at WB? WoooHoooo! I freelanced my whole career as a graphic artist. And it did seem like "What am I doing here, I don't have the experience, they will find me out." But I listened closely to what the client wanted, then did my best to sketch out their ideas. "Amazing they would say, how did you know I wanted this?" Because they told me. It was that simple. I didn't rise to great heights but word of mouth kept the jobs coming until I finally got a semi permanent freelance position at a great company. I have had creative block for over a year now, just little drawings here and there. I have even thought about quitting drawing and going out and finding something else. Then I stumbled across your channel and I have been going through all your videos and I have been drawing every second of everyday now. I just wanted to say thank you for ending my creative block and thank you for inspiring me to draw once again. Keep up the great and inspiring work, Will.

Congratulations on getting the Warner Bros. job! Great advice on how to be in the industry. Im at the point where I was comfortable working in a certain style for about 3 1/2 years and all of a sudden im not working on that anymore and I have to start over and start from scratch in a way. It has been a bit depressing starting over but its great to have a new challenge. Listening to your video has made me feel better and makes me want to work harder so I don't miss out on the opportunity I have now. Thanks!

When ever I feel down of have artist block, i come to your channel. You always have something interesting to watch which gets my mind going and operating. You are really a breath of fresh air to see someone so in depth with their characters and the people they are based off of. It makes me wonder what those people are and if i can meet them. I've gone back to art school as a mature student (2D Illustration at OCAD U) after years doing a job I was good at, but I often found boring... your words are great for both motivation and giving me a reality check when I need it.

I have to say that your encouraging words and sharing of the work you do is so deeply uplifting to me. Your sincerity really shines right through my old 4:3 computer screen. You instill confidence in people who seek it and I applaud you.
To me, It doesn't matter how often you put up these videos. In fact, maybe it's even better that you're away from this for a while and just vent when you feel like it.

I'm working on this final for my storyboard class which hasn't been going great for me for a couple reasons; my teacher is new and hasn't been giving great feedback or instruction and personal issues and whatever. Thank you will for your inspiration. Going through a major dry spell on the employment myself. It is really tough and really disappointing. Even thought about turning my back on creative stuff and going back to the factory job... It is just a miserable and unfulfilling life... But it pays the bills.
Still ... It's nice to hear someone with an upbeat view on the whole experience.

Great video ! Very nice tips, so much sincerity and willing others to learn from your experiences... Simply inspiring for young artists like me who wanna try few things, as comics, or animation.
First of all, congratulations on your job at Warner Bros. I can't even imagine the "I made it!" feeling that goes with that. I've spent the last few weeks catching up on your people sketching videos, and frankly, they've been pretty amazing for me. I've started people sketching, and that's helped me figure out the things that catch my attention in people, and I'm getting better at getting those down on paper. My drawings have improved a lot in the last few months. Beyond that, the words in your videos are also so helpful. There are so many stages you've mentioned that I have been through. I just need to figure out the balance between confidant and arrogant!

I checked out your table at CTN a few months back and remember talking to you about how many irons you had in the fire, and how tough it was to get the response from the studios. But it's so completely encouraging to see you here now a) because you've totally earned it, and b) because every one of your videos makes me optimistic about my future as an artist. You have a rare talent to make your frankly breathtaking abilities relatable rather than intimidating, and it's helped me out many times.

It’s amazing that you have this great opportunity and I’m very glad for you!
Regarding what you say at the first half, the same happens in any job: at the beginning you feel scared ‘cause think people is expecting too much from you… But the truth is that most of the time they don’t know either how will work on certain projects until they see how you work and what you can do… Since then, it comes a process of adaptation between both parts (like the ‘notes’ fact)… It’s funny, but happens!
Just have in mind that nobody borns knowing everything; you need guidance from them, and they need patience to see how you’re progressing… Eventually they can take any decision in the manner they check how skills and attitude go on you. As you also say, just do the best you can, with the best positive attitude you can, and that’ll help you a lot.
You’re an excellent person as an artist! Despite your ‘problems’ with your wife, I think it’s amazing that you both are a great artist couple! (maybe I said the same in the previous vids, but don’t remember LOL XD)
