I'm so glad I stumbled on this. I love them both (and originally ordered the California) but after listening to the comparison videos (both yours and Mandy's) I changed my order to the Kentucky body. I love that "old time" sound and that's what I'm personally looking for in a dulcimer. Maybe the next one will be a California body...maybe it'll be a teardrop instead...who knows. They're apparently like potato chips...can't have just one.
I thought I would like the larger, but find myself enjoying the cleaner and brighter sound of the traditional. So you may get more orders for the California, but.... I probably would not be one to. LOL I have, and play the guitar. If I want that sound, I will play the guitar. When I play the dulcimer, I want to hear THAT. This said, I love playing modern songs on the dulcimer because it is not what is expected... though I am not very good. Cheers!
