McIntosh C8 Preamplifier - Compensator Restoration - Part 3

BG274 - Part 3 of 3 in our McIntosh C8 preamp restorations. Also includes how to connect the C8S and C8 together with the MC30 amplifiers. I enjoyed this restoration, hope you did too.

Love it. I have a modern McIntosh stereo system, a C47 and an MC302, but I have always wanted to get an awesome classic system like this. My dream is a pair of MC275s and a C22 but this setup is possibly even cooler.

Cool video of some choice amps.Love those MacIntosh preamps too ! They are some of the best stereo rigs on the planet if you ask me. But that's me, your mileage may vary according to the ears involved . Great vids. 👍 📺 📻

Excellent series of videos ! I’ve been curious about the McIntosh C8 + MC30 combination for a long time for it’s ability to play the correct equalization for both 78’s and pre RIAA monophonic Lp’s. Have you had a chance to try them out on such recordings ? Does altering the equalization of these records from RIAA really make a discernible difference ? Any chance of posting a sound clip ? Sorry for nagging you, it’s just unlikely I’ll ever come across these units to try the experiment myself.
P.S. Both the original capacitors and the replacements were put in with bare leads. Is there any value (or need) to covering the leads with insulation tubing ? Is there a risk of short circuiting, or picking up noise ?

If you are specifically interested in a piece of gear that will handle the equalization for early records, you might want to look into the Rek-O-Kut Re-Equalizer III

Question: I have a sweet pair of McIntosh 1950's MC30's - How do I connect them to a modern Rotel Preamplifier? The input in the Amps is a single one, the Preamp has two pairs of (Left & Right) positive & negative Outputs (confusing for a regular Joe like me)

Do modern resistors effect the sound or would it be more the caps?

They were already different mounted on both preamps.....but you can do it .....seems not be a point in this amp.
