- Here is a complete round trip timelapse of the Sao Paulo Monorail Line 15. The line is completely automated and the trains do not have a drivers cab. There is an attendant who rides every train.
So far, only 6 stations of the line are open. Another 4 stations are under construction and will open when ready.
I will be posting a real time version of this in a few days.

This monorail was built to attend a poorly connected neighborhood in São Paulo, called Cidade Tiradentes, it is a social housing complex built in the 1980's and the municipal/state government never fully gave proper transport infrastructure, in the 1990's a Mayor prompted to build a BRT but almost a decade later just 8,2 km of the complete 20 km traject was built. So in 2009 the State government decided to act and build a Metro to the region, they choose a monorail in the believe they could build faster, and then become a nightmare, its only phase one of the the project and they (at the time of this video publication) still haven't finished the line to São Mateus a major neighborhood halfway though Cidade Tiradentes and 4,6 km away from Vila União.
Technical, judiaciary problems and corruption scandals are the cause of the slow progress and delayed inauguration dates.
Many critics say the line will be insufficient due the huge demand of transport in the region, a heavy rail metro would prefered instead.
This year the line has officially conceded to CCR a private company in a dubious competition with only 1 competitor, CCR also operates line 4 and 5 of the SP Metro with parents companies called ViaQuatro and ViaMobilidade respectively, Salvador Metro, and major conceded highways in São Paulo.
Isn’t the capacity of the line 40,000 pphpd? (That’s the theoretical capacity of the Innovia 300 design.) That’s as good as the best rail metros.
It’s a shame, but not surprising, the installation is affected by corruption.
(It was impressive to see in the video services arriving on the other platform at consecutive stations)

Awesome video! And I kept thinking about how you managed to stabilize and keep the camera still inside the train, since it shakes a lot. When I filmed this monorail, my arms swayed a lot!

The trains are driven manually in the depot.
Wow, you travel a lot. If you are still in SP could you made a video about Luz Station? But be careful walking outsite.
GBA811 thank you, I wanted to go to Luz Station but ran out of time. I will go back someday and make another video of Luz Station. I will be careful. Actually, when I was in São Paulo filming this video, my phone was pickpocketed and my friends phone was pickpocketed also on the same day!! Wow!
@@Luke_Starkenburg God dammit dude, hope you are ok, yeah we suffer with violence everyday even SP being the safest state in the country, but we can't compare with developed nations.
About Luz Station, I personally think you can safely take shoots near the park, in the huge area that looks like a parking lot, inside in the non-pay area also I believe you can take shoots, many people take photos, and make videos inside the station, so I believe its ok, but if go to the other side, you shouldn't risk yourself, its complicated because the start of crackland region, i mean I'm cool because I know the region but you don't, so I wouldn't recommend going there, if want go there go with friends that knows the region don't risk yourself.
And please stay the furthest away from Julio Prestes, I know its a beautiful station, with a amazing Concert House, but don't walk there it's the crackland hellhole there, and no one knows how to deal with the shittiest situation of the city.
Thanks for the information! We got told to leave some areas by police in Rio. We were exploring a favela on a hill which had amazing views of the city, which was probably not smart.

I'd say Sao Paulo took the risk of choosing the Monorail, has the decision worked for them?
No. Technical, judiaciary problems and corruption scandals slowed the progress and delayed schedules of inauguration. This line is better off, line 17 gold also a monorail wasn't inaugurated yet while being build amost the same time as line 15 in 2012.

@@Luke_Starkenburg It is good to see that americans are increasingly discovering São Paulo and seeing that it is developed city, in fact the most developed in Brazil. Many when they speak in Brazil, only think that there is Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, thinking that they are the only cities that "provide". Come back here as many times as you want
