Revo's music taught me that time signatures give an entirely different feel to a melody, although that's obvious I think that their are clear emotional differences between time signatures even if the entire piece is just percussion or rhythm . I think he uses 3/4 time especially well in this album, combined with the repetitive melodies and instrumentation - he's able to get an innocent and childlike feeling amongst an extremely dark and depressive one. But he is also able to get a very wistful, swaying one like in coral castle.
So what do think about the story of this album kaido? Do you have any theories? I havent listened to this is ages, yet i recall everysingle melody instantly, every second is so memorable.
This album is very esoteric. Being the first album to feature full narration and vocalization, to me it's very open ended, more so than later SH releases. I need to preface this by saying it's purely my interpretation of the work, and my thoughts aren't fact when it comes to this stuff ww. So with Thanatos, we see 4 toys explored through the lens of a girl who doesn't want to sleep, as she fears Thanatos is watching from somewhere. Each song delves into the topic of death, mourning, regret, and fear. three songs on the album aren't about these toys, but setting up the story outside of the story we're shown, that being the girl fearing Thanatos, or the very famous "Sound Horizon! " album titledrop, one that is signature for the doujin albums and carries on into the major releases (Side: E, Asa to yoru, mythos, etc). To me, each song can be fleshed out by other releases. In Ema ni, we have Nami referring to the stillborn children as babies sleeping under a blanket of snow. We have this repeated in numerous web era, doujin era, and major era songs. This album, to me, gives of vibes of Freud's "death drive", being a state in which a person wants to achieve death, through aggression, compulsive or repetitive acts, or reliving trauma. The term was later renamed "Thanatos" by Wilhelm Stekel as the opposite to the phrase "Eros". I think in 壊れたマリオネット the chanting could be saying "Eros". The whole album to me reflects our fear of death, and how we may obsess over it, thinking "Thanatos is always watching, from somewhere". I'm not sure how this holds up, but it's what I've seen the album as for awhile. Chronicle is about the world being reborn and history spinning the thread, Thanatos is about the repeated deaths that occur throughout the world's time, Lost is about the things lost along the way, and how if we don't continue to flow through life, we sink.
@@kaidothesheetposter Thank you so much for this upload by the way, its made very well, and it feels more "whole" then other uploads of sound horizon due to the way you made it with the booklet.

Are you God?
