The Most Super Simple Henna Recipe (Organic)

  • This henna recipe uses basic ingredients to create safe and deep staining henna stains!
    *This recipe calls for Rajastani Henna Powder since it has a dye release time much faster then other henna powders available, therefore saving you time as well!*
    For this recipe you will need:
    --50 gms (1/2 cup) Rajastani Henna powder
    --25 gms (1/8th cup) sugar
    --15 ml (1 tablespoon) lavender essential oil (tea tree, eucalyptus and cajeput can also be used, or in combination as well)
    --118 ml (1/2 cup) water (half mixed in at different times)
    Instructions:
    1.) Place all ingredients into a mixing bowl (ceramic is best).
    2.) Pour in about 1/4 cup water, a little at a time, until you reach a thick mashed potato like consistency.
    3.) cover with plastic wrap and keep in a warm place like the oven (turned off) with the light turned on for warmth, or under a lamp.
    4.) Rajastani henna powder is usually ready in about 6-8 hours, if it's really cold it could take longer. One trick is to put a dot on the palm of your hand for 5 mins and wipe off and if its bright orange then its ready (video to come!)
    5.)Add the rest of the water until you reach a toothpaste like consistency and then you're ready to use your henna paste!

    Dear Gopi Henna!
    I've just been át a henna course, and what i learned there was a bit different: we also added a bit lemon juice, and we used coffee instead of water. We put all the liquid into the mixture before we let it sit.
    For me, it wasn't dark enough and it was fading away within a week. It is possible that i made too thin lines or didn't press it well but somehow it wasn't okay. Somehow the cone was strange too. We did it in the same way but from different paper and it is so hard to work with. Please help me. Thank you. If i run out of what's already done i'll try your recipe. 💖

    Hi gopi , u r so sweet. Pl z ans my query. Do we need to keep d paste for 6-8 hours, coz I kept for 15-20 hours n used rajasthni henna . Can we fill d cone instantly after mixing it. Coz in con itself it can release it's die further. Moreover u have not used any acidic thing like tea or lemon which helps henna to release it's dye .

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  6 лет назад +4

      happy moments hi! You can use water, lemon, or tea to release the dye with same results for the color--only difference is with lemon the dye release takes longer. With water the paste can be ready in 6-12 hours depending how warm or cold the room is. Hotter weather will make it ready faster. With lemon it could take 12-24 hours to release. Either way color and longevity is the same. With lemon the paste will look more green as well

    Hi gopi henna I have been following you on instagram for a long time love your designs. Now I have a question I tried to make a henna paste with 100 grams of jamila powder. After dye release I have shifted it to some 20 medium sized cones. But I had a requirement of only 6 to 8 cones so I stored remaining cones in freezer. When I take them after 20days or 1 month I could see the lemon juice or EO has come out slightly from the cones and the henna paste didn’t give the stain which it does before. Now what is the problem where am I missing ?

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  5 лет назад +3

      Thats interesting because i've had customers who have bought my cones and have left them in the freezer for a few months and the stain still came out great, This would be something that would happen if you left it in the fridge rather than the freezer. Where are you from and how cold does your freezer get?

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  7 лет назад

      BAQ (body art quality) henna should always be green! You might have henna powder that is suitable for hair use so there could be other natural powders of herbs and what not in there as well which make it a brown color. You want just pure henna powder with a high lawsone content (dye pigment in henna) to ensure proper dye release and staining ability

    Is the essential oil necessary? I’ve got peppermint essential oil. Would that do?

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  5 лет назад +2

      You can omit essential oils but the stain will remain in the orange stage and wont full oxidize to the darker red/brown tones. That's what the EO helps with and unfortunately peppermint isn't one of the EOs that helps. The ones that will improve the stain are: eucalyptus, cajeput, lavender or tea tree. The peppermint you could add a couple drops just for fragrance but it doesn't help the stain as far as I know.

    How would you know when you’ve added too much sugar?

    • @Brarz.
      @Brarz. 3 месяца назад

      It will be very sticky difficult to remove even when it's wet .. but if temperature is too high it will be too watery because sugar melts with your hands temp

    I have made many henna recipes but they doesnt stain so is this because i dont leave it like 6 hours and so ? Or is there any other reason?

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  6 лет назад +1

      What henna powder do you use? Having good body quality henna powder is key, also having good quality essential oils all help in getting good dark colors, but yes leaving the henna on as long as possible at least 6 hours but more importantly is to avoid water on it for the next 12-24 hours

    • @GopiHenna

      this recipe is for use on the skin, but you can use the same recipe for hair as well but I would just add a couple tiny drops of essential oil and i wouldn't use any sugar

    Can we use olive oil or coconut oil instead of an essential oil ? For most of us who have sensitive skin.
    And what is the purpose of adding sugar can it be done without adding sugar?

    • @marquis101
      @marquis101 Месяц назад

      Adding sugar helps it stay moist and stick better to the skin for longer. Needs to be a certain type of essential oil (needs to have turpens) for sensitive skin try lavender oil!

    Why so? can you tell me the mistake ?

    • @Brarz.

      Because u put more sugar ...with sugar henna can be silky and smooth and lines don't break but if the temperature isn't right ..then stickiness of sugar will be there

      Traditional Henna Art yes. It dries out and the color won’t be there anymore or as vibrant and strong as it should

    And can we use mehndi oil instead of any essential oil?

    • @GopiHenna
      @GopiHenna  6 лет назад +2

      happy moments it depends what's in the mehndi oil, a lot of times such oil has other chemicals in it so pure essential oil is the best because you truly know what you're putting on your skin which is the best and safest for your clients and yourself! 💕

      Yes, but remember never to exceed the 50g sugar per every 100g henna powder, or your henna will be impossible to work with. The range of sugar per 100g henna goes from 30g (for extremely humid climates) to 50g
