    This is coming at the perfect time for me as I’m looking for an upgrade to my 20 year old bass rig. I’m primarily a guitar player that dabbles in bass, so I don’t know a lot about bass gear. I feel like the Katana series at least on the guitar covers all the sounds you could want and presents it in an interface which is simple and easy to understand and tweak to your liking. So, I’m psyched to see them come out with a bass version.

    I love my Boss multi FX and this combo has been on my radar for a bit. I'm also looking at just getting a GK head and cab since I already use my GX-100 for my FX. for the sake of simplicity and being able to not even need the GX100 this is really freaking appealing.

    I have one, don't use all the effects that much but sometimes handy. Play pubs , halls, clubs, mostly rock music and it delivers on sound and decibel,s without issue. Use short scale basses mostly, Gibson SG is thunder through this thing.

    I compared this one to a the fender rumble 800 (rumble 500 would be more similar). It sounded a little more digital and it weighs a bit more. The fender sounded better and I could lift it with one hand easily (I could've casually walked it out of the store because it was so easy to lift).
    There is a significant price difference but I would go with the Fender over the Boss. My feeling on the effects is that they're fun but that I want more control at my finger tips.

    I got to demo this about a week ago the day before my birthday while trying out some Player basses and I think it sounds amazing and really fills the room. I am finally dabbling in bass which is something I've wanted to do for a while. I also really appreciate the Ride The Lightning and Distant Early Warning covers as part of the demo. I might even just go for the 110 version.

    The Katana 110 is perfect to me. Great for practice and rehearsal. Loud enough for small gigs or to monitor on stage, and still has XLR out for PA. 210 is too big and heavy for what it offers. I don't use any of the silly effects. The compression and modeling is more than enough to make it worth it.

    • @Therealchuckbailey
      @Therealchuckbailey Год назад +1

      How are the effects silly tho? They’re literally boss effects not in a pedal and onboard. That seems pretty convenient and awesome to me 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m sure the 110 is awesome also. Thanks for watching!

    • @charliecarrot
      @charliecarrot Год назад

      @@Therealchuckbailey I probably used the wrong word. A lot of them are solid. Delay is super handy to have, chorus is great, octaver is pretty cool. I just don't play a lot of stuff on bass that needs these effects. And the default settings for the t wah (env filter) just don't work for me at all.
      I do use the effects when I plug a guitar into the 110 though, and it sounds great.

    Did I miss the part where you talk about the AB power section?

    • @Therealchuckbailey
      @Therealchuckbailey Год назад +1

      In short Class AB design in the context of fidelity and audio is superior with power efficiency and sound quality. Class D design from my findings in most internet research shows to be highest in efficiency but isn't as good in the hifi category by comparison. Watts are watts but how the power transformers and how they respond to the voltage and the load is different.

      @@Therealchuckbailey when I started using Ashdown hybrids and the Handbox tube/AB stuff along side my Darkglass 900 heads you could really FEEL the difference between the two. At equal volumes the AB seems to have a heavier punch and sounds more full. I love the DG stuff but it's hard to deny how thin they seem if you swap over to one after using an amp with an AB power section.

      @@ThrashingBasskill I could understand your reservations and as I am not an engineer I went in with the same feelings. To me always more watts, more power, more headroom, more BASS. I had it explained to me recently that made a lot of sense… well at least to me. Take a Corvette. You see the corvette body and assume everything under the hood is what should be there. A big LS1 motor that’s loud, powerful and fast! You turn the ignition on and it’s…. None of those things. You open the hood to find a a completely different motor. It still runs and goes fine but it’s not a corvette even though the body is. So with class A, AB, D power you have different efficiencies to consider. Different transformers and components, it’s need for true power and it’s Peak RMS all come into consideration. There’s a lot to it and it’s far beyond my comprehension 😂 I’ve been reading more about it though and Class D has the pros of lighter, more efficient use and accessibility but at the expense of different components, modules, transformers, etc. Class A and AB have the same loads and needs but their transformers and components handle those needs differently and from an audio perspective they are truer to fidelity from an audio perspective. I wish I was smarter to explain this better but hopefully the folks at BOSS can chime in!

    Owned it. Ditched it. Why? BS! The extension speaker cuts out the cabinet speakers. How can anybody call a CHOICE an extension? BS 2 the power consumption is LESS than the amps rated power output. Class A/B amps are around 50% efficient @ turning the input W into rms output. Making it a real world 60 w rms amp at best. Because the 2 10 inchers are custom designed for this rig. That is WAY less of an issue. They are in parallel combo 98- 99 dB @1 w @ 1M efficient (guess) and that makes 60 wrms of juicy class A/B hell LOUD. Louder than many rated @ 200 wrms. Thats actually really good. So why piss on your customers brains with meanigless bullshit?
    The other issue for me was the sound signture of some of the bundled effects & the menu to access it. Being an analog pedal kind of guy. These sound like well........emulations of REAL pedals. Close but definitely no cigar
    After a while all that menu scrolling just pissed me off. Id say if you are a music student on a budget & bang for your buck is your main concern. This rig is unbeatable. It will do a medium theatre size auditorium no issue. Its neutral on sonic signature and that makes it versatile. Which is what you want starting out. But it took me spending time with this that I wanted the opposite. Simple with badass nasty attitude. And no menus. Real pedals RULE!

      I generally agree. I don't like having my effects permanently tied to my amp. I do plenty of gigs that I do direct with IEMs and then I don't even need to lug an amp in. If my effects are in the amp, then I always have to bring the whole big thing. That said, this demo sounded great, and for the kind of player that this is for, I think it seems like a great product.
