Cow holy. That kick shot on the 3 by Efren reyes that nearly missed the side pocket after the onslaught of safety's and kicks. That was a close game. thanks for uploading!
I like watching young johnny archer before all the nervous ticks started. No lint picking and wiping his cue down every shot. He got on with it back then. He wasnt slow by no means
After watching that truly epic safety battle, you can't possibly believe that jump cues are good for the sport. Don't get me wrong - I use shorties also but I will always look to kick first. Unquestionably the sheer beauty and art of knowledgable safety play is increasingly being lost, to the real detriment of the sport.
Nothing works my nerves more that playing a great safety and some one to retaliation to use a jump cue🤷
I hear ya. But I'm mostly lamenting the loss of the art and the awesome knowledge that kicking brings to pool. Jumping itself is not necessarily the problem - jumping with standard length cues has long been allowed in many pro tournaments. The issue is with the development of short cues that really enable even lower skilled pool players to jump, but often those lower players have no control and no real idea where the cue ball will come to rest. Lotsa of luck in the lower levels and a good deal in the top tiers as well.
Some examples of equipment limits that make sense are in tennis for example. Head sizes of rackets are strictly limited. As is length of rackets. Even pro baseball disallows use of things like aluminum bats. Etc, etc, etc....
For sure, there are positions where going for a jump cue makes sense. But what's wrong with making players learn to jump with their full length break cues? It's marketing and the push by equipment manufacturers appealing to the masses.
Guess I'm just old skool, but I am far more impressed with deliberate, skilled kicking and kick safe knowledge than jumping, which is a skill. Just that the shorties make jumping too easy. Cheers man... @@alexcollins1630
Earl was a master at jumping with a full length cue.
Earl was a master at jumping with a full length cue.
Yes. And a bunch of other OG legends as well. I came into the sport when jumping was highly discouraged in order to prevent damage to the slate and the felt. Most real pool halls I played only allowed higher level players to even jump with full length cues.
Sure, Earl and others would occasionally jump with full length cues, but often that was a last resort shot, NOT the first immediate option.
I guess that's what bothers me a bit nowadays. I see so many amateurs [and even some pros] immediately go to the shorty without even looking at the kick, especially when the kick is easy and the chance of a kick safe return is pretty high.
It's just that Efren style of play that I miss. Yes, allow jumping,. But take it back to only using full length cues. Bring the art and knowledge of the sport back...I wish...lol cheers! @@alexcollins1630
Glad this is uploaded for anybody to watch. So good
What a classic match 🔥. I’m glad I got to compete at the Sands in Reno. So many great memories made there like the famous Z shot from Reyes vs Earl match. Thanks for the uploads Accu-Stats. 🙏❤️
That was incredible! One of the best matches I've seen in a long, long time.
The greatest fight I've ever seen in pool videos in youtube
What a match! Two gladiators. Thanks for share It with us. You've done a great job.
Matches don't get much closer than this. Cheers to those who made it so!!
This is what it's ALL about. Totally awesome 👍
Great match‼️ Well done Accu-Stats‼️
Great match. Thank you!
Great match the cloth reminds me of what we use for BCA 10 ball on Valley tables. Love how my cb placement plays compared to standard diamond tables of today. Currently shooting cue is Earl Strickland Cuetec cue pre SST shaft.
Talk about legend versus legend!
Two of the best
35:48 was beautiful, did not see that play coming

Johnny Johnny take all the time in the world . . . while we have a full supper & desert & keep picking up fluff that isn't there - terrific!
Johnny is always worried about everything. Wants a rerack. Chalk is always in the way, speck of something on the cue ball. He scares himself.
I agree completely with you. I've noticed this things and others a long time ago.
Great time show how great Archer was
Since everyone currently throwing shade at him
Rt...but Jonny is one of greatest players to ever play. Period
Has anyone seen a greater safety battle than this final rack? I haven't.
These older matches are so much more enjoyable to watch. We have sacrificed quality and excellent commentary for fancy graphics and technological BS.
Side note: anyone else notice Dom Mysterio at 2:49?
Before jump cues, there was...Archer vs. Reyes
bill is a know it all, so annoying when he’s gotta always be right
🤔 Is that the legendary Jay "Swanee" Swanson in the front row directly in back of the front of the table where they brake from 🤔
I bet it is. I don’t know what he looks like, but that’s who Johnny first went on the road with, if I’m not mistaken.
Let’s all play the drinking game! Every time billy says “therefore” you take a shot 🥴
Can't understand why Efren's push out left that nine over the pocket and instead just moved the seven. Yet then we wouldn't have seen the amazing answer by Archer
Realized I've seen this game before. Not sure if it was this channel or not.
Roger, maybe you are thinking of Phil Capelle's book about the match.
@@AccuStats : Never knew about that, but will read it. Thanks
more upload for django please
Danny Tanner is one of the slowest ever
Efren never checks you racks Johnny.
Really.
The commentator is horrible
ARCHER IS OVER RATED
Does Bill Incardona ever shut up?
Drink every time he says "therefore". You wouldn't survive.
Would LOVE to see more Tony Ellen.
Mark, our plan is for another Tony Ellin match next Tuesday.
@@AccuStats i would love to see some more young earl. Thanks for the match pat, your a legend
@@AccuStats Thanks! I bought many DVD videos from you guys. You people are saints for pool.
