Probably his most poetic line. Along the lines of "calm before the storm" or "things are going too good to be true." This punches you in the face, like life does everyone eventually.
I just want you guys to know, you’re so cool and relatable: I have a stressful teaching job in England and I watch your reaction videos to relax on the bus on the way home every day. Keep. It. Up!
My late husband's favorite song of all time. We broke up once when dating and he sent the lyrics to me in letter form... it got us married for 30 years before I lost him.
To paraphrase a line from the cd liner, he took the black and white movie that is Metallica's music and added the colour needed to make it something really special.
The two songs that were composed new for the S&M concert, this and "-human", are outstanding. Then, you've got two that just meshed so well with the orchestral adaptation that they should have had it from the beginning; 'Outlaw Torn' and 'Bleeding Me'. The rest are still awesome and fun, but those four songs from this concert are just jaw-dropping.
I feel like "Fuel" is one of the songs that benefitted most from the S&M treatment. Hard to listen to the original, always waiting for the brass to kick in.
The whole concert was amazing, my favorite part was watching metal take over a non-metal space. Both musician and concert goer (refined people in suits trying to move to a new kind of music and violinists fraying bows never meant to play thrash metal). The songs were chosen because of how well they work with an orchestra. Definitely check out Outlaw Torn (or any) from this show!
This was the most amazing concert ever recorded imo. ive seen hundreds of concerts live and on recording... nothing compares to the first time they played with the symphony RIP to the conductor Michael Kaman. True genius
I feel like they both would love to just watch the full S&M concert that way they get the full effect from hearing songs they’ve already reacted too in the past.
Whoever put this song together, which I'm sure it was a group effort. Is a freaking genius! One of my all time favorite Metallica songs ever! Thanks Brad and Lex! We sure miss you. 🙏🇺🇸
Brad, you would definitely like MetallicA's Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn, King Nothing, Sad But True, Ect. Lex is just a straight up Metal Chick. Awesome pair my friends. That you both definitely are!
I am a die hard MetallicA fan. I love their old stuff without a doubt. But the new stuff definitely gets a bad rap, and I am a big promoterof the new stuff. Well technically Load, Reload, Garange Inc. S&M #1, St Anger, and now Death Magnetic aren't that new anymore. DM is nearly 15 years old so, yeah I'm freaking old lol. But with these reaction channels. I've seen alot of new light for the newer stuff. Maybe not St Anger so much, and I have a place in my black heart for that album. But definitely hard to listen to sometimes.
Those lyrics “then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way” we can all relate to this
I remember these collaborations getting quite a bit of hate early on, but over time I think it opened both rock and classical fans to new worlds of music.
So been a Metallica fan since I was like 9. That was back in 1991. We all know what album hit then. I quickly learned about their “other” first four albums. Then Load and Reload hit right before this. It was such a change in atmosphere with all 3 of these album releases and I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t a huge fan at first. Loved the Garage Days release in between these, but it took me awhile to really capture what Metallica was doing in the mid-late 90’s. It was just so different. Now I have a total appreciation of their versatility and it really shows how talented this band really is. Thrash, to masterpieces, to mainstream rock sound, to blues and even a country twang, to orchestra, back to thrash and they just have a total lockdown on what music should sound like with the instruments provided.
I really discovered Metallica at their Black album, then this song, the MTV years, and reloaded. I hated Garage Days and everything that came after. I had to go back in time for more metallic, their first albums before Black are just amazing.
@@jasonguest5820 you do realize that one side of the album of Garage Days was just songs they just didn’t release from their 80’s albums. It was originally released in 1987, but revisited in 1998.

Still in all Brad takes ass and kicks names just for opening up to a music genre completely out the "comfort zone". This is good stuff...pure GOLD y'all!!! Pick your moments ; p
One of the best recorded concerts. Fusion of metal and symphony before it was a Nightwish type thing to do. You should go back and watch some of your favorite songs they played in that concert. The way Michael Kamen (RIP) conducted that symphony alongside a metal band was hypnotizing.
No Leaf Clover was one of TWO original releases off their Symphony And Metallica release in 1998 (or '99). They re-recorded a bunch of their older songs, playing live with Michael Kamen and the San Fran Symphony Orchestra.
Lex talking about the details hits the nail on the head... Only the goats could make a f*****g banger like this. Every time I hit the bags this song is on the playlist. Thanks y'all for doing this one. Much love from KTOWN L.A
A lot has been said about Metallica's ever-changing style and sound but one thing is for sure, they've never been afraid of experimenting. This concert called S&M with the San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra was 20 years ago and they released another one last year called S&M II

'In media res' is a literary device that starts the audience 'in the middle of things.' That is what you are getting with No Leaf Clover. Dropped right into the middle of some epic story.
Metallica has the greatest performances. You guys should start watching their live versions where you really get to hear how they sound live. They release all their live performances on RUclips and all sound good.

You should check out their version of Whisky in the Jar, which is a traditional Irish song that’s been for a few hundred years and has been recorded by numerous artists. They won a Grammy for their version. Something about it resonates with deeply.
You guys are awesome! Glad to see you enjoyed this, it is one of my favorite pieces as well. Lex's comment made me remember about an album i found that are Metallica songs played note-for-note on cello's; "Apocalyptica Plays Metallica on 4 Cellos" is the album name. I thought you would enjoy checking it out, even if just for youselves. I love music as well and wanted to share. You two are so sincere and wonderful it is refreshing. Sorry about the long message😇 Good luck with everything.
This particular video is the promo or MTV edited version visually with jump cuts and transition to non synced footage. There is however an uncut video of this performance that is making the rounds on RUclips, there you will have real time concert footage without all the extra stuff. The concert itself sounded amazing live as it did in recorded audio. They picked the perfect venue for this performance as it was built during the Second World War for stage shows and plays so the acoustics had to be just right.
The San Francisco Orchestra had originally recorded with Metallica on "Enter Sandman", however the sound was never used. Years later the orchestra was contacted to make a full live album with them.

That whole concert was fire. It was simultaneously strange and exciting to hear an orchestra with classic Metallica songs.
I was 13 and it was my awakening to Metallica... good memories.
When confronted with softening their music, Metallica said "fuck you" and teamed up with an orchestra. And on that day, magic was born.
Magic indeed! Well said.

You should check out their version of Whisky in the Jar, which is a traditional Irish song that’s been for a few hundred years and has been recorded by numerous artists. They won a Grammy for their version. Something about it resonates with deeply.
RIP Michael Kamen a true genius of his art!🙏
One of the last really GREAT songs Metallica wrote.
The San Francisco Orchestra had originally recorded with Metallica on "Enter Sandman", however the sound was never used. Years later the orchestra was contacted to make a full live album with them.
