      Jokes aside: What we see in these type of footage is actually happening between two pieces of glasses (a.k.a "slide" and "coverslip"). The sample containing cells or any microscopic organisms is squeezed between the "slide" and "coverslide". That's why we see these microorganisms moving only in 2D.

      @@spicymeatballs2thespicening chemotaxis. They have surface receptors all over, that sense what it touches. It it comes in contact with something "bad", it will try to move in the opposite direction. If it comes in contact with something "good", it will move in that direction. When they aren't getting stimulated they randomly move around.

      atomicsnowflake my mothers brothers maids aunts dogs previous owners mum was a paramecium the got consumed by an amoeba and she was not stressed at all so maybe u r just a little weakling

    Just kinda thought about this. But the way I’m looking at the videos is like a 2d space the amoeba wrapped around the cell right can’t the cell go under it or no cuz it’s glass swished together. So if that’s the case in the human body would it wrap fully around the cell like a ball?

      It's not the protist flailing around trying to escape, they can't move that quickly. What's actually happening is that the amoeba secretes enzymes at it, and the breaking down of the protist's cell membrane releases tiny bubbles of gas that causes it to look like it's shaking (it's exactly what happens inside your intestines when you digest food). This is similar to what happens every day in your body when your immune cells kill bacteria. So it is really hard for the protist to escape, because it is already caught by the enzymes we can't see with these optics.
