To All My Haters!😇 ruclips.net/user/shortsNLRZ4-htyfk?feature=share
The only thing I 'hate' is you make it look so easy but in reality I suck at stuff like this!
Awesome job.
You’re a professional, and extremely awesome at what you do…thanks for all you tutorial videos 👍🏽
This guy makes it look easy. In reality, he is highly skilled.
it is easy.
Haha 😂 I checked in to say the same thing… this stuff is freakin hard to do for non prop, upper body working on computers all the time see hell requesting this 😅
The ceiling is already smooth. That's why it looks easy. I wonder how he does it on old uneven ceiling.
The cutting part demands good skill
Yea for anyone who thinks this is easy... think twice before attempting this. He is a professional with years of experience... that being said... YES you CAN DO IT.... but... you might end up with a lot of sanding before it's all over with. Lol
I don't believe most people know just how highly skilled you are.
Thanks I think this makes more sense for unskilled DIYers like myself.
Thank you! That is by far the simplest and most effective demo yet!
Wow! That’s awesome! Thank you so much for watching and commenting my friend.👍🏻😎
Yeah I’ve been making mine too thick I think lol. Third coat goes on tomorrow. First time with drywall and avoiding tool lines is definitely a skill
Make thinner
Just sand it
@@The_Jrod I think the mix was too thick but I did ultimately end up sanding
Sand down your corners on your trowel so the corners are not so protruded, it helps with the lines
@@aaronbanales8542 that’s a good idea. I’ll do that for future projects
just what I needed to see to improve a 1956, exceptional well done, exceptionally good looking , very uniform looking "skip splatter"? surface finish over plaster. I wonder how the craftsmen of that day did such good looking work. I repaired a water damage spot in this ceiling years ago. most would not notice it, but I do and as everything is cleared from the room for painting the walls after floor refinishing ... . Thank You
Paul, you are waaay to damn clean to be a taper brother! You must have a paid actor doing the work dog :). I'm always covered from head to toe! When I was learning my auto boxes, I dumped 1/2 a damn 10" of on my head, why I started learning on a ceiling was dumb!
I appreciate you and your videos brother man! Thanks!
Haha…😂 I really appreciate you watching and commenting my friend!👍🏻 -Paul
This is only fpr skim could ating a flat surface. Usually we skim coat not so flat surfaces, and this would make a mess with a roller and you need thicker mud. That is a whole lot of moisture being added to surface and humidity to room, which you must be aware of.
That looks good! If I’m skimming over texture/removed popcorn I like to use plus 3 for less shrinking on the first coat. Then a heavier mud like green or black for a harder surface that doesn’t let you sand away too much and expose imperfections.
Do you need to sand between the Plus 3 coat and the rest of the coats?
Excellent and I'm working on an 1860 house. That is the fastest way
You make it looks so easy.
Good evening, Mr Peck. Thanks for all your tips, I just finished skim coating our master bath and a wall in our dining room that used to have full length mirrors. Using your, as you’ve taught on your channel, I came out with a pretty decent finish. There were a few hiccups all my the way but I got it figured out. I think.
Anyway, I have a couple questions for you, if you don’t mind.
First is the paper tape I used on the corners, inside and out, and it went fairly well but I ended up with bubbles on the tape. It’s an easy fix but how do inn n prevent that?
Second, what’s the real difference between the all purpose and plus three muds?
Love the videos, just a tip, if you roll the mud both directions it spreads out more evenly
Yes! Hard to get all of the info in on a less than 60 second video.👍🏻😇
Ordered a special roller for mud… then watched this.. looks like my job will get done sooner though!
Absolutely a great way to get it done. If ya have a helper role, and someone skimming with an 18" blade, large areas go fast and leave less lap lines, especially on hot days.
Yes for sure!💥👊🏻😎
Man, you're good. That was impressive to watch.
Hi! Thanks for the video! How do you add texture to ceilings?
Even easier with a 24 inch skimming blade! Great video though! 👍
How far out is considered too far?
Curious on how you don't get any lines when using the knife?
The edges on the knife are rounded and he applies more pressure on one side
@@Laid_back_allentakes lots of practice aka trial and ERROR. 😐
How much water do you add to the bucket mix.
how much water are you adding, what's the consistency? how much pressure are you using? Are you pressing more on one side? Is this for a smooth finish or needed before adding more texture (e.g. knockdown)?
I've found that it works best when is "whipped" or creamy.
Simple just what I needed
Awesome!💥 So glad you found my video helpful.👍🏻😎
I used to resurface with a 10” knife pulling it from the pan to the ceiling. This looks a lot easier but damn I was a big boy pulling all that mud back in the day.
see i be doing the rolling and my sister does the other thing 😂 cause i keep messing up. when you disappear one line another one comes. can’t put too much pressure but at the same time yes 😅
I been doing this 10 years get a rubber squeegee from kraft multiple sizes ull thank me later also go to als tapping get an advanced off set knife . Keep the mud on the walls 1 and done with a off set and squeegee
very nice bro watching your chenel from pilippines God bless you bro keep up the good job always keep safe
Is there any tips to not get lines each time you move the blade? As a beginner thats my biggest challenge!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!🙏😎
Clean ass work!
I really appreciate that!💥 Thank you so much for watching and commenting my friend.👍🏻😎
I'm definitely a dummy, so this helps me out A LOT, as simple as it may be.
How many coats for textured ceiling.
Can you explain how to hold the spackle?... what's the best way to hold it
What size knife are you using? Thanks
Wait, what is that frothing machine?😂 Is that like a drill pimped up for this? I'm really asking. I need to do this skim coating as a project in my house. 😓
Hello everyone, I’ve bought my first home. I’m doing everything myself. A few questions. After I wet my popcorn ceiling and scrape it I plan to apply a skim layer.
What mud should I get for that and how much? It’s only a 300 square foot room? Also what grind sand paper should I get for after I’m done applying the skim so that I can paint it ?
Thanks everyone !
Get the good stuff.Youll know when you see it.
Can I do this over popcorn to hide the popcorn or do I need to remove?
Does this work on Popcorn ceilings?
I really need an answer for this question I'm about to ask...someone painted a bathroom looks to be like they took a 3 inch brush and just put a lot of paint on the walls making swirls ..the reason I can see why they did this was to hide all the imperfections. From what I can see it looks like unsanded spackle under the paint job ...my question is ideally I would have wanted to replace the sheet rock but it's not My place so what would be the best course of action to tackle this ? Would appreciate any advice since I will be tackling this project. Thank you in advance😊
I am curious if you figured out how to handle this.
Get some sanding paper. I would start of with a grit level around 100 and work towards a grit level of 200. I would use a 150 in between the 100 level and 200 level.
The 100 level would hopefully knock down that old and dried spackle. The 150 and 200 would help smooth out and grit lines left behind from sanding down.
Lastly, spackle again over any grit lines left behind. Let it dry and sand away until you leave your desired smoothness. For this last step you will be using the 200 grit.
I tried yesterday for the first time and didn't remove the sticker from my knife and ended up with bits of sticker in my mix ... which wasn't watered down enough and was too thick to evenly spread ... ended up doing about 1/8th of a wall and it looks like a child did it.
Going to scrape and sand and try again today.
So our house… his first pass with the mud. IS THE TEXTURE THEY LEFT ON OUR WALLS.. it’s hideous and we want to fix it. Tips?
Can u use the skim coating for knock down ?
Great video! Do you have a way for me to post a pic of a ceiling in need of a spackle job? I just need an opinion on what amd how to use...
Is it true that nobody does that because I just was told by my contractor that when you put new drywall on nobody skim coats the whole ceiling
What is a skim coat used for? Like what stage of patching or drywall install or whatnot would require a skim coat? Just trying to learn more. Thank you.
It's after you already repair your holes if it's an old plaster wall. Then you have to go over it with a wet brush to smooth it out. So minimal sanding. I'm working in 1860 house right now and none of it's all that easy. Plenty of repairs and holes in loose plaster which must be removed
And then instead of sanding you use a wet paint brush
I had the impression it was for smoothing out textured paint or any bumpy surface.
After removing my wallpaper there is a lot of old glue on the wall. Do I have to sand that off, or can I skim coat over it?
I did everything to get old glue off and gave up. Even sanding wouldn't take the glue off, so I skim coated it - and it worked! Note: The sheetrock formed bubbles and was very frustrating! I learned two days ago (from a different drywall channel) that unpainted drywall absorbs the air bubbles within the sheetrock but on painted walls it does not, so the air works its way up to the top. They also said that you'd need to do two coats to not get bubbles on the final, third coat. I hope you had success with your project. As I remember, I ended up doing 2-3 skim coats before I was happy with the final result.
Do you have to tape first if the tape at the joints is peeling off?
Yes, remove and replace any peeling tape joints. Then skim coat.✅👍🏻
@@PaulPeck thank you
What kind of paint is it?
It's thicker than the paint i use
If this is skim coating for dummies, then you can call me Forrest Gump. Mine did not turn out so good
VavaVoom!!! Thank you for this video!
I like the way it looks rolled on could i skip smoothing it out
Yes, you sure could.✅👍🏻
That's what I was thinking. Especially when I'm doing 4 rooms of ugly walls
@@rhondajackson3980 Don't leave it, you will have ugly ceilings next
Thanks I’m going to do that right now
Do you use dish soap?
All of the greats do. Palmolive user from way back! 😅
Talent!
How large of an area do you cover before you use the knife to strike it off? Is it the same for vertical walls?
This is for me!! I'm the dummy!!!
Nah, I’m sure you could do it better than a lot of people.💥🙌🏼😎
How soon after can I paint?
Usually 24 hours is a good rule of thumb. 👍🏻
How far out is considered too far to float?
Nice work
How does it come out so smooth? Is it the texture of the mud that allows for that?
Hahaha, I liked the texture before you scraped it! But great work!
Level 5 or nothing!
how do you clean the roller and the cage frame
The hard part is trying to not create a line on your passes. If you can get that down your good... but trust me when i say thats THE HARD PART!
Can you do this over wood paneling? Also would I have to sand the painted surface?
Can I was the roller and use it for paint again? Or one roller for each purpose?
Do you immediately start troweling or wait a bit for the mud to set?
Does he actually answer?
They do this in the Union also.
So what do you do with the compound that was scrapped off? Is it re-used?
Yes.✅👍🏻
Easier if u just use multi finish mate
Have you ever tried to spray it on and smooth it with knock down blade my preferred method but drywall is personal preference thousand ways to get the same result
Houses in Florida missed that last stroke lmao
How long did you have to wait to scrape it off?
Love this!!! Fast!!
Thank you!👍🏻😎
How did you thin it down? You didn’t say..
I'm new to this. What's the point of skim coat
Mine drys so fast 😂 I was trying to help my customers by doing this for them, I do plumbing not this, and it drys so damn quick no matter how I mix! Very annoying. I stopped and told them that’s not a n my skill set after all 😂
Does this work on a textured ceiling? I’d like to flatten it out.
Wish you showed the sanding process.
That's the point of this method...no sanding.
@@DonoVideoProductions whoops. Ok. Sounds good.
How much water to thin?
If mixing half of a bucket of joint compound. Start with two cups of water and see how close that gets to a yogurt like consistency. Then if need add a little water at a time until you get to that consistency.✅👍🏻
@@PaulPeck Thank You
This is new trend and makes sense because ppl whernt doing this back in the days
I've heard of old timers in the 60s doing this with big blades.Must have been high end stuff.
Hey @PaulPeck I just tried this on the ceiling and my roller didn’t really roll at all. Once I put the roller on the ceiling, the bottom side of the roller was too heavy. Because of that it didn’t roll at all. Do you have any tips for that ?
I was thinking that I need to thin down my joint compound or make it thicker?
Texture should be like thin yogurt. Not too thick
Could also use a metal paint screen
Do customers ever request the texture look of the roll on application - I like it- pros or cons ?
Pros are it hides imperfections on the ceiling and only con I can think of is how long it will take to go back to non texture. Also the texture holds allot more dust and dirt.
I have it, and I Hate it. Cobwebs, dirt, dust bunnies just stick to it, and it's so hard to keep clean on a high ceiling.
I have a textured ceiling, it makes the room even darker and it is hard to keep clean and paint.
How u not leave any lines with troul (however u spell it) when skiing next section
Paul thanks for tricks.
Can’t you spray it on.? Thin it down.? 😮
ceiling looked pretty smooth before you skimcoated .... made it look easy ......
I was like, "for dummies?
Skim coating is an art!
Sees the guy, ah okay I see.
I bet it takes very strong wrists to position the blade just right, pull the correct amount of mud off, turn the blade to dump the mud into the pan, repeat, and do it all quickly and smoothly. And of course I don’t have the mixing tool and don’t really want to purchase one. But those textured walls are soooo ugly! 😢
Question, was there any sanding involed?
Nope I did not sand. But, I also applied a skip trowel texture to the ceiling after the skim coating.👍🏻
How much water? You say you thinned it down.
Are you using the flat side?
Just a suggestion maybe a usg 3 light weight
I use plus 3 doing this. Green mud shrinks too much, plus it's harder to sand.
Yep too much glue @@noelschuck6491
Can you do this for exterior ceilings
That would be the sky 😅😂😂
Can you do the walls the same way
Hello so you can do 2 or 3 coats like this. Can’t I? Anyone knows this please respond. TY
Yes you can.👍🏻
@@PaulPeck TY Paul
Gizzer is spot on
lids are tough
I work at a usg plant in gypsum Ohio we make that
That’s awesome!💥 USG makes the best drywall products out there! I’ve actually done quite a few projects with them on social media and they are always a pleasure to work with. 👍🏻😎
Can I do this without smoothing and paint over
Yes.✅👍🏻
Did you add any water prior to mixing?
yeah he said he thinned it down
I wonder if you added the paint to it 50/50
