Stories like the power washer one are why I'm so hesitant to help other people. The lack of gratitude or concept of people being PEOPLE, not machines, is lost on far too many entitled pricks!

That last story always amazes me. I've been in that spot when I was young, but folks are mostly fairly appreciative when I fix something for Free.
OP forgot to remind K that she was doing this for FREE, on her DAYS OFF. And then offered to look up some professional concrete cleaning companies if her work wasn't good enough. I've found that usually shuts people up.
You can't let people like that keep giving you crap, your time is more valuable than that.

The pressure wash story reminded me of this. Years ago a friend and I thought we would make some cash by mowing lawns. We charged the huge amount of $5.00 (like I said, it was years ago). So we mow this one old lady's yard, finish up and knock on her door to get paid. She comes out talking about how we didn't trim her hedges, huh? So we do a quick trim on her hedges, knock again and now it's you didn't clean out my rock area. Every time we'd knock she'd tack more and more on what she wanted done. We were fed up and none of this was worth $5.00. So we dumped all the trimmings and grass clippings all over her porch, rock area and lawn, it was a mess. We knocked one final time and told her to keep her five bucks. She wasn't a satisfied customer LOL

The pressure washer incident reminded me of a Crazy Karen in my neighborhood:
When I was a teen a retired neighbor asked for help emptying out his garage. I spent 3 days pulling out tons of junk, neatly organized it, covered everything with tarps so it didn’t look bad while he deco what to do with it all, swept out the garage & even blew out the cobwebs on the walls & rafters.
3 days later there’s 4 sheriffs deputies with a search warrant for my parents house & my car & an arrest warrant for me.
His wife had convinced him that I had been loading my car up with stuff from his garage every day & taking it home. After a 2 hours of having all of our stuff tossed around, my car gutted of personal belongings & having to sit handcuffed for the neighbors to see and being endlessly questioned by a deputy I finally convinced them to go look under the tarped items next to & behind the couples garage.
Everything that was reported missing was right there.
When confronted, instead of admitting the mistake & apologizing, bitchy neighbors wife doubled down, claimed I must have put it all back & now items (jewelry & antique coins) were missing from the house (that I’d never been in) & that I must have taken them. Husband told her & the police that those items were in a safety deposit box at the bank. Then it was I vandalized her flowerbeds, etc., etc, etc..
Even though everything was located where it was supposed to be they still had to take me in to jail, I had to post bond & get a ride home.
My court date arrived, the States attorney was just going to vacate everything like he was supposed to. That’s when crazy lady starts throwing a bunch of other crap out to the judge. Claiming that I’d attacked her, threatened her, assaulted her dog, threw garbage in her driveway the day before court. Thing was that when I came home from posting bond I left town to stay with an uncle until the hearing. I denied all of it, had witnesses and proof that I was hours away at the time. The judge admonished her for all the garbage I’d had to deal with, she threw a tantrum & wound up with contempt fines, perjury charges & spent the better part of a day in a holding cell to “cool off”. He got charged & fined for filing a false report to the police & a couple of other things.
Never got a thank you for the job, never got an apology for the BS that I & my family had to deal with, nothing.
Turns out she was mad at my family for buying our house from my grandparents before she could make an offer on it & had spent the past few years steaming over it, spreading gossip about my family & when she thought she had a chance to get “revenge” she browbeat her husband into filing a criminal complaint against me.
She went from well respected member of the community to a pariah & he was ejected from his various clubs in town. They moved about a year later & I heard that she died after a long bout of dementia.

The pressure washer story had me chuckling. Having watched the people that come down to Florida and retire act like two year olds is common. My husband and I went to visit new friends at a gated community full of snowbirds and retirees. We went to the pool area to sit and visit with them. None of the units had an outside area to sit. Apparently they don't allow chairs on the small porch slab out front because it's very small and no one had any. We watched a couple come in the pool area and a couple already there said something to the arriving couple who torted something back then they proceeded to stick their tongues out at each other with sound and all. My husband and I were rolling. I love Florida. You just have to be able to be patient with the older folks because they can be difficult sometimes. I understand why she wanted to finish her grandpa's oldest friends driveway. She didn't want to embarrass grandpa and wasn't a quitter. Love the way she handled the "billing" and how family stuck with her. You get to see who people really are when something like the pandemic happens even though they were being taken care of by this young couple to make life easier for them. Shame on them. Wouldn't want them in my lifeboat!

That story about cleaning the driveway the lesson learned was don't do professional work for free. Next time ask a professional how much they would charge. You'll be surprised how much they charge then you will think twice about doing it for free just because you want to be What again? As soon as the lady did a stink about getting cold water I would have walked off.

I watch pressure washing videos. He mentioned that lots of comments say the homeowners water bill is going to be huge. He breaks down hours worked, gallons per minute, local cost of water ( which is usually about $4.00 per THOUSAND gallons!). Small jobs run about $2 in water.
Op is WAAAAAY too nice. Me, 50 is in the rear view mirror, would have told K what she could do with her demands tout suite! I would also lament to Bob about the YEARS of crap he has endured. Then I'd go my merry way.
