I watched this when it first came out in Houston, TX. With the nuclear response, “Who’s first? Houston, Texas, sir.” My entire theater reacted perfectly with an almost simultaneous scream “We’re all gonna die!! AARRRRRGGGHHH!!” Then everyone shut up and we were instantly back into the movie.
You: The whole we’re gonna fight back on the 4th thing…the morale is not there.
Bill pullman: Hold my beer.
"30 minutes? I thought we had 6 hours?!"
😅
Not with Judd Hirsch driving from NYC to DC 🤣🤣🤣
Jeff Goldblum Jurassic Park: "Must go go faster..." 🦖
Jeff Goldblum Independence Day: "Must go FASTER!" 👽
I don't know which is better 😂
Well, he really wants to get places quickly and teleportation... didn't go so well for Jeff 😅
JP is better.. ID4, Ad libbed.
15:04 "She's still working when there's aliens out there?"
In this economy? Yeah. lol
I thought I was the only one who still had “El Toro, Jackie” stuck in my head after 20 years lol
I always love it in movies with ensemble casts where they start off as disparate elements in the narrative before converging together for the finale.
It's what I also love in crossovers when they're done right.
Yeah I was really trying to figure out how it would happen but when it did it was great!
I loved watching Nia piece together how all the different character arcs were going to coalesce!
I should point out that the actress playing Patricia Whitmore (aka the munchkin) is none other than Mae Whitman, who would later go on to have a very prolific voice acting career. Nowadays she's best recognized as Katara from ATLA and of course The Owl House's Amity Blight.
She was also Roxy Richter in "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", one of Ramona's Evil Exes.
I can’t believe that is Katara!!!
Isn't she also Ann from Arrested Development?
Her?
she is also 1 of Romona's evils exes in Scott Pilgrim
I always took the implications to be that the [crop-duster / PTSD Vet] guy _really was_ abducted by the aliens, and everyone thought he was crazy- even with the aliens ACTUALLY showing up and wreaking havoc no one believed him.
Man, Roland Emmerich has made almost nothing but bad movies, but for whatever reason his first two were classics. It might have been the person he was working with.
This one is still - by almost every qualitative measure - pretty bad, honestly. But while I would never in a million years call it a "classic", it IS a ton of shlocky fun. lol
If you think too deeply, this movie is pretty dumb and is full of gaping plot holes and continuity errors (A drunk cropduster flying an F-18E with only minutes of training? Alien fighters that fly through space using windows instead of computer guidance, and somehow don't have computer-guided-gunsights? Driving all the way from NYC to DC during a national panic? Jeff Goldblum logging into the alien mainframe using a laptop wi-fi antenna? The alien ships haven't upgraded their software since the 1949 Roswell crash?), but it's so much fun that it's easy to check your brain at the door
@@Pixelologist I think it has that magic quality to it. Stargate had it too. You can't really take it too seriously, though. That's for sure. I guess I would argue, especially now that movies tend to do their best when they're fun... it's okay to call a movie a classic because it's lots of fun. Or, if not, that's okay too. I'm just going to not fret over it.
'98 Godzilla was his first big flop and everything since then has been iffy. But I like disaster films so most of the action in Emmerich's work is up my alley.
Disagree. I finally watched Moonfall a few days ago, and it was pretty good. I'm now motivated to watch all of his "bad" movies that I skipped.
The way jeff goldblum struts at the end is just great
Great reaction Nia like always, love this movie, And a fun-fact Will Smith saying "what the hell is that smell?! " was improvised because there was a dead brine shrimp that are in the salt flats themselves and he was tired of smelling it. Keep up the good work.
Not only would President Whitmore get reellected, but he would also become as legendary as George Washington as being the only US president to actively command troops in battle haha
I saw this one when I was a senior in HS on opening nite 3Jul96.. we were super hyped up and thus suspended all disbelief... watching it now, it feels pretty insane that a Marine cpt just walked up to a 4 star general and started talking to him 😂
Any man who punches an alien in the face and says "Welcome to Earth" outranks General
😂

Damn right!
@@monsoon1234567890Was Army. Can confirm. 🤣
@@monsoon1234567890Was Army. Can confirm. 🤣
The Welcome Wagon probably flashed a formal declaration of war.
“Love triangle returns”.
What love triangle? Connie never had an affair with the President. And the President deeply loved his wife.
The extended edition of this movie makes it a whole lot better
I won tickets to see this at midnight on opening night. After that a probably saw it at least another 10 times at the theater. It’s such a fun popcorn flick, and even better on the big screen. ❤️
Saw this in college with a group of friends. There was a lot of hype over it. One of them I hadn’t caught up with in a while tagged along without knowing what it was about, not even a trailer. Born on the 4th of July had recently come out and many thought it might be a similar movie. My friend too was blown away. Seeing the White House get trashed with ease was a big deal back then (happens in every other disaster movie now).
16:55 "Thirty minutes?!" It takes a while to drive from Manhattan to Washington DC.
we come in peace ?! ... we already here .... and peace is another thing :D
17:00
It took 5 and a half hours to drive from New York to Washington.
16:56 *It's a countdown.* David said that they had six hours when he was in New York, before he and his father drove to DC. Do you think New York and DC are right next to each other, or do you not know how the passage of time works?
I'm very pleased with the Jackie Chan Adventures reference lol
48:30 you should watch this movie at the cinema on the day of the premiere. The whole cinema was ready to kick the ass of the aliens.
Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum walking like badasses at the end of the movie is right up there with Arnold and Carl Weather's handshake in Predator
Leave the fat lady alone! 😂
Fr fr!!! They were BAs!!!
All of the problems got solved at the end. The aliens were defeated, the son became proud of his father, President whitmore and Jeff goldblum were shaking hands, Jeff goldblum got his wife back, Will Smith got married, there were fireworks, Jeff goldblum took up smoking, President whitmore went from being a wimp to a warrior, all kinds of great things happened.
Marine Corps Air Station El Toro closed in 1999. That makes me feel very very old.
Couple thoughts ...
Why do they ALWAYS say, "Fire at will" ??? What the heck did Will ever do to them ??? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
You suggested the answer to why the President wasn't informed about the aliens and stuff was, "It's on a need-to-know basis". However, I say, "Yeah, but they were on one of those "Don't need to know bases", so that's why the President was never told before. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
"Harry Potter taught me that." :D
"Here's some pie, we come in peace." That is worth a sub.
"Who's going to the strip club?" If there's aliens and I'm probably gonna die thats as good a place as any.
“We’re being exterminated.”
Nia Maki: Chsshshshshshshshshshshshshshsh………
Crying: “I’m trying not to think about it.”
Picks up the cup: “And now I feel guilty about drinking out of this cup, too, now.”
Gives up in defeat: “I’m just miserable.”
Missed an opportunity to follow up your "oh snap" at Vivica Fox with an "oh slap" at Will
Good Morning, Enjoy Japan for us, I'm def going there before i die, this is a fun time, shout out to the two strands curling it up for the fans!
Lmao the two strands 😂 thank you btw! It’s great, I hope you make it out here soon!
This is one of the best 90s movies. They don't make them like this anymore.
It's a good thing that the aliens never bothered to upgrade their software since the 1949 Roswell crash, so that Jeff Goldblum could use the virus he tested on the crashed ship!
In the extended edition it has a scene where David shows how the crashed ship is receiving the signal being broadcasted by the mothership. It makes sense that he was hacking and putting the virus through the signal at the source rather than directly into their software. The extended edition has a couple of scenes like this that really do add extra layers and answers a few of the questions raised like this I think.
@@Tyranidlord556 Thanks, I didn't know that, I'll have to watch it
the President's speech in my opinion is one of the best in movie history frim the setting the circumstances the actual dialogue of the speech and delivery contribute to it being a powerful moment that gets you no matter how many times you've seen it.
side note if you enjoyed this movie DO NOT watch the sequel it will change your perspective on parts of this movie and not in a good way
How nice of aliens to abduct someone and then return them back to the same region of the world and country they snatched them from.😂 We don’t even experiment on animals and return them to the same location.
Yo you started singing City High😂
😆
It takes me 4 1/2 hrs. to drive from Southern Maryland which is 27 miles from the White House...to Brooklyn N.Y.
thoroughly enjoyed your reaction Nia. Jayne just needed Vera
Hello Nia!😊 I'm late to reactions today. It was my birthday and I spent the day in bed with AC. We've had a heat wave for a week.😉 To recycle a Styrofoam cup, you put it in a ziplock bag with your recycling, otherwise it ends up in a landfill in the trash.😉 Great reactions to this end of the world sci-fi action film, Nia!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻P.S. - The sequel should be avoided.😉
Love this movie. Great reaction!
Of all the movies I've ever watched, I love this one the most. It's such an iconic alien movie! Such a shame that the follow up was so disappointing - lots of wasted potential there.
P.S. - Oh my gosh, those eyes! Beautiful!
P.P.S. - Is that a squishmallow I spy on the couch? Very nice.
I hope you also look the 2nd part!
You stand corrected. It's not that the morale was not there. Is that the technology miss the technology was not there
If you want to see a really young (18) Adam Baldwin, check out "My Bodyguard" (1980). Seems like he's been around forever.
47:52 love is the reason for action
8:56 there's a good chance if you keep watching and be patient you'll find out what they want
I already know that I'm going to love this reaction. 😊
This movie is always a must-watch movie for me every 4th of July and whenever it's on tv.
The cast is stellar. Fantastic visual and special effects. And the sound design is amazing.
Bill Pullman(who plays President Thomas Whitmore)is one of my top favorite movie Presidents. And he has the best speech ever in this movie.
The 2016 follow-up "Independence Day: Resurgence" is a good sequel. Not as fantastic as this one, but still a really good movie(in my opinion). I do highly recommend that one.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Oh nice! Thank you! I’ll have to check it out! I was supposed to post this last week and ran into tech issues 😩
This movie is awesome
Welcome to Erf!
55:26 Someone had to time stamp it......
Fantastic reaction!
Thanks so much for watching😁
Just to let you know, if aliens land and start some shit, I'm going to the strip club. But, that's me.
Thank you because I was just watching, (……..), and they weren’t really watching it
Ya know, I've really enjoyed films by Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith, but this one just didn't age well for me.
For more (and arguably better) sci fi fun with these two, check out Goldblum's "The Fly" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," and Smith in "I, Robot."
Youre in JAPAN!?!? I'm in Osaka! いらっしゃいませ!
47:47 One of the best inspirational speeches in movies, second to Captain America’s speeches in the MCU and Mikey’s “it’s our time” speech from The Goonies.
This is Aragorn erasure.
10:35 "How do we know they are going to attack? Maybe they're just going to land and say Hey."
Well...
Suppose Russia wanted to send an ambassador to the United States.
Would they:
A) send a giant fleet of dozens of aircraft carriers, battleships, nuclear submarines, etc., and spread them out around every major city they can get to?
or
B) Send one small plane with one ambassador and a few assistants just to Washington D.C. with no military escort?
Aliens would be no different.
Sure, they have big ships ready for war.
But if they want peace, they would leave the warships far away and send one small ambassador ship.
What these aliens are doing is purely a warlike posture.
Now, maybe they just plan to make threats and scare us into surrendering.
They don't need a countdown for that.
They countdown can only mean one thing: a coordinated attack.
Checkmate.
Your recycles go to the same place as your trash- a landfill. Except aluminum.
Love the title!
😂 😂
You should watch Godzilla 98 next
26:21 you asked what all that stuff is inside the spaceship I don't know maybe it's the alien just taking a guess I mean I'm not a genius
Independence Day 2
28:36 That's not entiiiiiirrrely accurate sur!😂
It was all Jeff Goldblum's wife's fault.
Some times my European friends shit on America and I admit we are dumb in our own ways. But I always say if aliens were to ever come to Earth don't act like all the world leaders wouldn't be at our front door going "ok whats the plan America Daddy?"
If they do... the answer should be, put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.
put her in that weird suit 🥲🤣🤣
If you think too deeply, this movie is pretty dumb and is full of gaping plot holes and continuity errors (A drunk cropduster flying an F-18E with only minutes of training? The aliens still use the same software as they did in the 1949 Roswell crash?), but it's so much fun that it's easy to check your brain at the door
21:10 "Isn't that kind of her fault for not listening to him?"
Sort of, I guess.
But put yourself in her shoes.
You are the White House Communications Director, in charge of all the communication between the President and the American citizens.
The president is talking to the press RIGHT NOW.
Suddenly your ex husband calls shouting about the alien attack.
OK, yeah, he's smart, but you are at the busiest moment of your entire life and he just sounds like he's panicking.
Would you take that call?
I think Constance was perfectly justified to hang up that call and get back to the most important moment of her life and of American history.
It's not like she could know that David figured out something that the entire U.S. military, Homeland Defense, and even NASA hadn't figured out.
But you're right, if she did listen then, maybe they could have evacuated those 3 cities and saved millions of lives.
Watch No one will save you, please🙏
Please Do
Little Man (2006) Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayan
Awesome reaction/ can you please watch a movie called LADDER 49.
Independence Day (2) Recergence is set 20 years later.. the president's daughter and cptn Hilliard's step son are all grown up, David and his father are there, president Hillard & the scientist from atea 51 wakes up from a 20 year coma.
With this information this 66 year young Aussie think's you would like it 😊
any chances for Lord of The Rings?
*sigh*... If you don't know what it's about, how in the hell can you possibly compare it to anything? and of all things, Mission: Impossible. 😵 I'm not even 17 seconds into this and I'm already picking up barrels of bullshit.
If this isn't an insanely beautiful woman reac--oh, nm, we're good. 😄
You should do other videos... COD is played out and boring. We would rather watch you do anything else at all! Heck painting your nails something different tho!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember watching this when it came out as a 14 year old and I have a similar opinion to it now - Will Smith's recent antics notwithstanding. The dialogue is terrible, the effects aren't great, the characters are just stereotypes and cliches...but the actors they picked make it work. There's that whole introductory scene to Will Smith and Vivica A. Fox's characters, and it's all written badly, especially at the end. "You are not as charming as you think you are, sir." "Yes, I am." Either the writer is just a moron or he knew he was casting the Fresh Prince and he could sell that line better than anyone else, because he makes it work. He's really the character in this movie that holds it all together. Bill Pullman and Mary McDonnell aren't bad as president and First Lady, but everyone else is just a stereotype, and your mileage may vary. I actually still like the chemistry between Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, but Smith seems to have chemistry with everyone. This was the movie, before Men In Black, that made Will Smith a star and showed he could take bad one liners and sell them better than anyone else. "Now that's what I call a close encounter." Okay, Will, we get it. I used to idolize him as a white kid growing up. He was the King of Cool. I was more of a Carlton at best without the dance moves. If you want to see what Will could do acting wise from the very beginning, Six Degrees of Separation is the movie, co-starring the late Donald Sutherland (RIP) and Stockard Channing, or Rizzo from Grease.
if ya really weant to get on top, dont fucking clone your self in thumbnails...i would say god luck, but clearly you goof'd
If you cut out all of Will Smith's non-meaningful words and actions, the movie would be half an hour shorter.
