Well, the paladin could have traded with the 5/5 into a 3/2 apprentice, then triggered flame ward to bring out 2 other apprentices. Then he could consecration all the apprentices and win from there. The ping was irrelevant if we assume the paladin was competent.

DH has glide and that legendary, Priest has Illucia, and as we saw here Duel Paladin breaks it in their normal gameplan. Not saying it is impossible to do any kind of combo, but they will have to be both quicker to activate and use less cards. If any of the above cards/decks are relevant upon the expansions release, then things like Trump tried out here will not be doable (with any worthwhile winrate at least).
He played horribly bad... It's not even possible to know if it works or not. Trump is a one style player: value town. He can't play aggro or tempo or combo.

Glide may be not played in supersmorc rogue meta where even priests go smorc. A lot of depends on control warrior if it's suprisingly as good as it seemed to be at "alphatesting". If there is no serious counter to smorc rogue besides going smorc yourself than Glide isn't issue at all as no DH runs it. Issue though is smorcing and only 2 combo decks look like have decent chances to stay alive - semicombo quest warlock and druids. Rest simply dies. For example Exodia mage is meme tier in my opinion. So it's lose/lose scenario for any combo besides those 2. However those 2 have decent chances considering fact combo isn't their only win condition and they have ways to deal with smorc.

In wild though, it's hard for me to believe priest can't find 1 card by turn 6+. In standard I doubt illucia will matter much, but glide will since it's a good card against control as well

Instead of playing the quest package you can just play incanters flow. Flow one potion down to 3 Mana. Tony + potion is the set up. 1 Mana tony + 2x apprentice + potion + 2x 1 Mana apprentice is the combo. The potion generates the first fireball also.

combo mage is gonna be done with incanters flow, sorceress apprentice, the new legendary that gains spell damage per spell and the draw spell cram session. turn 7, new legendary, sorceress, easily cast 8 spells with things like magic trick and frost shocks. blast frostbolts and magic missles. cram session draw 8-10 cards. repeat cheap burn, cram session rest of deck, spell power +10 to +20 easily reached and players dead! draw those cram sessions to be a good mage! you dont even need cram session either. frost shockx4 magic trickx2 plus its spell. already +8 spell damage. 3-4 magic missles does it. just play the 1/1 elemental give magic missle potion of illusion is too slow for combo mage in standard. its for wild. potion of illusion will go in scam mage, for many solarians and you also play vectus in the scam mage! for standard :D
How do you cast cram session and burn spells with only 1 sorcerer's apprentice? I'm also thinking about mozaki but I'm thinking about using potion of illusion to discount it for the combo turn.
@@sophieharris3496 you only need to hit 1 incanters flow to make it cost 1 mana, some games youll be able to make it 0 mana without a sorc. it may not happen by turn 7 100% of the time, but mage has enough freeze and control to stall a few rounds. basically mulligan for your incanters flow a sorc and the legendary lol, draw into small spells and cram session for turn 7 in the perfect world :D the burn package can be, 4 arcane missles and 2 frost bolts with quite some consistency, if those are cast at 7+ spell damage they should fetch lethal, in a slower world you go off on 9 with 2 sorceress and can include discounted fireballs to the mix that doesnt count magic trick maybe generating additional arcane missles or frostbolts, and evocation supplying burn too
The problem I see with your plan is with surviving long enough to get there. If you're playing 2 early Incanter's Flows, you're not dealing with the board. Also, if you're planning to play the new legendary with a bunch of spells, you need to save up that many spells in hand - those are cards you aren't using to deal with the board. Also, any spells you draw too early (before casting your Incanter's Flow) won't be discounted and makes it harder to pull off. I really don't see your idea being possible on turn 7 - and if it's possible, it's WAY too unlikely. You're better off planning for it on turn 9 or 10, with more early tempo plays.

Brain freeze is fantastic with ray of frost for killing big minions. Freeze them and deal 3 damage, now they are frozen for the 2 damage from ray of frost to work. Put it back in the deck maybe!
In the last game instead of playing the apprentice, pinging the blatant decoy 1/1 would be the same and avoid the scenario of pulling the sorc out later.

@@TopoSalsero i dont think glide is that good a card. Its very situational, and there arent a lot of dh decks that wanna run a 4 mana draw 4. If you have cards in hand its 4 mana draw less, so you need to have an empty hand for it to be good. Skull is just better
please test the other otk combo of mage: make auctioneer go dormant with maiev, then go mozaki +2 sorc apprentice, spam 1-2 mana spells like ray of frost, arcane explosion, card draw etc. until you can instant kill the opponent with frost bolt and arcane missiles in a miracle fashion. ideally arcance explosions will give you a clear board for 100% missles to go face
Yes, because 3 mana become unkillable with 0 counter play was a fair and balanced card. That card every existing in standard inn the first place was absolute cancer.
Two main issus with this deckplan. This game dont have search your library mechanics so all key cards are RNG if you get them. And the mana problem as your mana stops at 10 and thus you cant ramp to make this work as you cant sitt around doing nothing in a combo deck.
Alternate mage combo idea: Potion + mozaki = 1 mana mini malagos? Include it in a mana cyclone/evocation style deck and you randomly have 2 combo otk s

If I ever play mage, it's almost always Exodia in wild. With that said, it was pretty obvious standard Exodia - in this manner, and I think most others - wasn't going to work. Not having Ice Block is a major dealbreaker for a mage OTK that requires 5+ cards.
Although this deck ends up being bad, I think it is worth noting this showcases how dangerous Sorcerer's Apprentice is as a card. She should be hall of famed and replaced with the same statline, but spell damage instead, or some other mage-like effect.
yeah exactly what I thought would happen , tempo and aggro are to good they got insane value play this expansion while controle and combo do not have anything that permit them to stale the game long enought to win , controle soul fragment demon hunter seem to be doing fine though with all the aoes . Because of buff pala and priest I think running devolving missile may be interesting for combo mage and I would probably go for the spell dmg package instead of loot hoarder/novice engineer for draw and replace antonidas by mozaki just potion of illusions mozaki once and you can go mozaki 2 sorcerers apprentice evocation on turn 10 and you should be able to kill the ennemy .
Wouldnt it be more consistent to get a 1/1 copy of antonidas with the coin and than get the other two copies of sorcerers apprentice with the other potion of illusion? i have seen like a couple of those videos and the you tubers never do that even with antonidas the coin and the potion in hand
I enjoyed the video, the paladin deck looked strong. it is nice to know that this deck is completely useless and will lose to anyone else that you play against, good to know.
I think this deck needs at least a pair of polymorphs. Surely all combo decks must by their very nature function as control decks until they've drawn into the combo? *Just* drawing cards and playing some freeze and light AoE doesn't seem enough...
The meta we have right now is far from an aggro meta, atleast compared to past expansions, but a few cards are being printed that reward the player vomiting out there hand

Then at start of turn you get a free apprentice out and THEN do your combo. Then there are no more decoys to mess with your 1/1s in hand. If the opponent is going to make your Apprentices cheaper, then use that to your advantage... Heck, he could have been setting up a play of that sort since turn 6 to secure it even better.

Don't be silly, they've systematically removed otk decks from the game ever since last year. The best you can do now is like 18 ish damage in a turn

Made this deck 100x better with spell damage synergy. Makes it easier to clear boards and the spell damage draw card is insane.

In the last game instead of playing the apprentice, pinging the blatant decoy 1/1 would be the same and avoid the scenario of pulling the sorc out later.

@@TopoSalsero i dont think glide is that good a card. Its very situational, and there arent a lot of dh decks that wanna run a 4 mana draw 4. If you have cards in hand its 4 mana draw less, so you need to have an empty hand for it to be good. Skull is just better
I think it could have potential. Maybe try building a freeze mage shell and go from there. (btw I'm talking about old old school freeze mage)

please test the other otk combo of mage:
make auctioneer go dormant with maiev, then go mozaki +2 sorc apprentice, spam 1-2 mana spells like ray of frost, arcane explosion, card draw etc. until you can instant kill the opponent with frost bolt and arcane missiles in a miracle fashion. ideally arcance explosions will give you a clear board for 100% missles to go face

Yes, because 3 mana become unkillable with 0 counter play was a fair and balanced card. That card every existing in standard inn the first place was absolute cancer.
Secret package seems important just so you have some health.
Two main issus with this deckplan.
This game dont have search your library mechanics so all key cards are RNG if you get them.
And the mana problem as your mana stops at 10 and thus you cant ramp to make this work as you cant sitt around doing nothing in a combo deck.
Pretty sure you are supposed to use that in Rogue but I guess that works too.

Include it in a mana cyclone/evocation style deck and you randomly have 2 combo otk s

If I ever play mage, it's almost always Exodia in wild. With that said, it was pretty obvious standard Exodia - in this manner, and I think most others - wasn't going to work. Not having Ice Block is a major dealbreaker for a mage OTK that requires 5+ cards.
Although this deck ends up being bad, I think it is worth noting this showcases how dangerous Sorcerer's Apprentice is as a card. She should be hall of famed and replaced with the same statline, but spell damage instead, or some other mage-like effect.

yeah exactly what I thought would happen , tempo and aggro are to good they got insane value play this expansion while controle and combo do not have anything that permit them to stale the game long enought to win , controle soul fragment demon hunter seem to be doing fine though with all the aoes . Because of buff pala and priest I think running devolving missile may be interesting for combo mage and I would probably go for the spell dmg package instead of loot hoarder/novice engineer for draw and replace antonidas by mozaki just potion of illusions mozaki once and you can go mozaki 2 sorcerers apprentice evocation on turn 10 and you should be able to kill the ennemy .

I enjoyed the video, the paladin deck looked strong. it is nice to know that this deck is completely useless and will lose to anyone else that you play against, good to know.
I think this deck needs at least a pair of polymorphs. Surely all combo decks must by their very nature function as control decks until they've drawn into the combo? *Just* drawing cards and playing some freeze and light AoE doesn't seem enough...

The meta we have right now is far from an aggro meta, atleast compared to past expansions, but a few cards are being printed that reward the player vomiting out there hand

He would have been better off pinging the 1/1 decoy in hopes to get a doomsayer out. If it does, then blizzard to keep him up. Then at start of turn you get a free apprentice out and THEN do your combo. Then there are no more decoys to mess with your 1/1s in hand.
If the opponent is going to make your Apprentices cheaper, then use that to your advantage...
Heck, he could have been setting up a play of that sort since turn 6 to secure it even better.
