  • We’re discovering the BEST places to live in the United States, The WORST places to live and where you might want to visit and take a vacation.
    Syracuse is a city in New York State. It’s home to the Erie Canal Museum, tracing the waterway’s history in the 1850 Weighlock Building. In the old state armory, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) offers interactive exhibits and a planetarium. Designed by I.M. Pei, the Everson Museum of Art focuses on American artwork. The opulent 1920s Landmark Theatre hosts Broadway hits and concerts.
    Some of the places we explore are:
    The Carrier Dome, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Clinton Square, Destiny USA & The Landmark Theatre.

      Go ahead we don't miss you one bit. You shouldn't have the right to a gun because gun ownership is NOT a constitutional right. The 2nd Amendment actually refers to the State's right to respond in emergencies you nit. It gives the state the power to put down a riot or call in the national gaurd when their is a natural disaster. it was never designed for individual guns you nit.

  • @racingbeats1493
    @racingbeats1493 Год назад +11

    I grew up in Syracuse and honestly one of it's biggest issues is some of the very vocal older crowd. I have personally had the ability to travel a bit and have been to quite a few different states. I think some people that live in Syracuse haven't really spent much time anywhere else so they focus solely on negative aspects of the area. When I travel I often see the pros and cons of Syracuse pretty plainly.
    Some of the positives are that it's easy to get around, you can live in a safe suburb and get downtown in 15 mins, has a cost of living less than 75% of New York state, average house price is just 127k, it's getting a multi- billion dollar chip manufacturing facility that will bring 50k jobs in the next 20 years, is getting a state of the art 75-100 million dollar aquarium, home to SU university, home to 5th largest mall in the US, and has urban, suburban, and rural living options all very close together. Syracuse has given me the opportunity to live like the upper middle class on a lower middle class income. That's hard to beat.
    Yes the weather is bad, yes some of the community is intolerable on both the left and the right, yes certain parts of the city look pretty atrocious, and yes it's biggest negative is crime which is in the top 10% in the country. I would consider this Syracuse's biggest downside. However, I'm saying that I have not felt uncomfortable enough to want to move. With that said If you avoid very obviously bad areas (I can't because of my job) you can live relatively blind to the crime around you. Crime in Syracuse is very localized.

    Winter is a big part of Syracuse as we usually get a lot of snow. I suggest you explore winter activities besides the ice skating in the city. We have nearby skiing areas, snowmobile trails, sledding, as well as a Winterfest every year. Our ability to clear the roads of snow and ice enable us to continue our daily lives and business despite the snowfall. Also... we have hockey leagues. In the Spring there is a local and of course college/high school crew races. Our proximity to the Finger Lakes affords boating as well as shoreline dining and vineyard touring. Our proximity to the Great Lakes (Lake Ontario) and the Seneca River allows some great Salmon fishing and the proximity to an international port and boat launches for sailing from Lake Ontario to the Great Lawrence Seaway down through the other waterways. Our affordable housing places Syracuse and Onondaga Count as a perfect location for daily and weekend trips. The Great New York State Fair is hosted every year in Syracuse at the end of August and signals the end of summer.

      I'm from Syracuse, and I went to UB, so I've also lived in Buffalo. The three cities of Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo are literally identical when it comes to crime. I live in Philly now and can tell you that if you're not from "the hood" and don't live directly in it, then you have nothing to worry about. I always found it strange when people cite crime as a reason to move away from a place because, realistically, most people are completely unaffected by it

    It's a good video. But Syracuse is in central NY not western. And Onondaga lake is not safe to fish in if you want to eat the fish. It's contaminated and is not safe to swim in or fish. Other than these couple things I mentioned I enjoyed the video.

    • @burtan2000
      @burtan2000 Год назад

      Dermal contact with lake water is now okay (except for certain areas at certain times because there are sewer overflows in extreme wet weather, which is true of virtually every metro east of the Mississippi). I think adult males can eat some fish like once a year. So....yeah, probably better just to not eat the fish. But that's just one lake (and its tributaries). Paradoxically, Central NY also has some of the cleanest lakes. Syracuse gets its domestic water completely from Skaneateles Lake. The water is gravity fed - no pumps needed - and requires only filtering of particulates. No chemical or UV treatment required to have safe drinking water. This is an amazing feat considering the amount of farms (and manicured lawns) in the Skaneateles watershed.
      Overfertilization, dog poop, sanitary sewer overflows, and general garbage are the main concerns for Onondaga nowadays since the cap was completed. The cleanup was fairly successful and water quality is lightyears from what it was. They walled off groundwater from entering the southeastern shoreline; they rehab'd and remediated the impacted streams; they dredged the most contaminated sediment off the bottom., then they capped the remaining contaminated sediment with millions of yards of sand and gravel. Now it's mostly just monitor until we all die. That's the only downside, but it's true of all contaminated areas: monitoring must continue basically forever.

Lowest I know back in 70s was 111 inches. Next we are in CNY not WNY. WNY doesn't start to after Finger lakes going toward Roc. reason why Gr8 NY State Fair is in Syr. Syr is 20 miles from the geographic center of NY State. I would throw in the best scenery in any area east of Rockies. Rivers lakes forests mountains of over 2,000 ft dot areas south of Syr.. And you didn't include winter like snow parks for tubing, and ski areas in almost every direction from Syr. Some of the friendliest and down to home genuine people that exist too. I just moved to Mass after 20 yrs and miss it alot. Oh and you can't forget lights on lake starts next week.

      Absolutely. Some cities are just that. Good to visit but horrible to live in.

      @@601TRAVELS That’s not what I meant at all. It looks like an incredible place to live, but that’s based on neighbourhoods, restaurants, and local type things like markets and festivals.

    Syracuse is a dumpster fire in the middle of a frozen hellscape

      You have to leave your home. There is so much to do. In the warmer months we have festivals just about every week, parks to hike or bike trails, fishing, hunting, kickball league, volleyball...or go to live music shows and amazing gallery openings as well as open air concerts. In the colder times there are clubs to go to-- gaming, darts, pool, as well as winter sports (skating, skiing, snowmobiling). Join a vineyard tour, take some time to explore all the parks, all the new restaurants, the free entertainment as well as the private fee based entertainment (Ren Faire, Shakespeare in the Park). We have a Jazz Fest, a Blues Fest, ethnic festivals with great food and entertainment, Broadway in Syracuse, a robust library system, Library and Uni lectures, Lakefront concerts, sports (even a farm team plays every week). I suspect you lack motivation. Try light therapy for the SADD.

    Бред не пишите, это умирающий город, за тридцатку работу не найдете. Улицы брошеных домов, нишие на каждом углу. Бегите оттуда.
