This brought tears to my eyes, such a beautiful family my partner is Samoan and I have two children my first son was born. With autism and intellectual disability, he didn’t talk up until seven years old when he he was little I realised what was going on and had to fight to get a diagnosis, but now he speaks pretty much perfectly and does things like maths etc. reads and writes, he got to go to Samoa when he was 4 and his first word was ocean 😭😭😭😭.I wish we had a group where we are in Melbourne Australia for my partner and myself such a beautful idea and community. Watching your sons grandfather taking care of him and grandmother brought me to tears, my partner lost his mum and dad when he was 11 so makes me long our son had his Samoan grandparents. Just to finish yous are such amazing parents, alofa from the Sheck family.

My good Lord this pinched our hearts deep! We too have an autistic boy non verbal half Samoan half Māori 5 years of age.
We embrace autism every day lol this kid comes with ups and downs but we love every moment with our boy he brings so much joy to our family! He hasn’t been diagnosed yet because it has taken us this long to finally get help 😢 we struggled big time trying to understand our son until we cried out for help. We got the help we needed and he’s in school now. He doesn’t want to come home most of the times lol.
My son loves strings! And little sticks. Sometimes he’ll stare in the air and laugh randomly and start pinching with his fingers. starting to think he must see molecules 😂 anyway thank you for sharing your beautiful story/journey. Because of our boy we got to stay strong healthy and fit coz omg they can run!! God bless your family!

Beautiful story sharing how Pacific families support each other as a collective to support our children/grandchildren with autism. Daniel and Anna, thank you for sharing your story! Seeing your parents in the background helping out too melted my heart. True depiction of 'it takes a village' to raise a child.

Wow, the blessing's from above, everyone thinks that having a child that is on the spectrum is a burden, but un beknown to the world it is more of a blessing, and that's in disguise, a beautiful disguise. I too have a son on the spectrum, and it has been the most humbling experience that both my husband and I, as well as our 2 other children have been through. Everything that you have experience with Tevita is experienced else where. I wish you and your whanau all the best for the future with your Tamariki. Days, months, years will go by and you will see his amazing strengths come 10 fold. much aroha whanau, kia kaha e te whanau..

This made me smile and remember the journey we went through when our now 13yo was diagnosed about nine years ago.
For anyone who may be scared to test their child, I encourage you to do it. A diagnosis won't change your child, but it will help you change your approach to your child. Understanding they aren't ulavale, but need a different type of guidance.
I wish we had a polynesian support group when our son was diagnosed. But we did attend My Time in Melbourne which was helpful as we were on our own (with God's graces) here.
PS it took me about a week to say son's diagnosis out loud without crying.
    Alofa atu 💙💙💙
