The thing about Starfield is that even if its finished, you will never complete it, it doesnt end and with the community(like Skyrim) the game will just be.

I get the urge to play Star Citizen when certain aspects of Starfield annoys me, such as when traversing anywhere, or exploring. And I get the urge to play Starfield when I get annoyed with Star Citizen's completely lifeless questing system or gameplay loops. With that said, they're almost like two games in a similar setting trying to do different things.

No matter how immersive star citizen is for me, the fucking lag and constant crashes and disconnects, makes it unplayable. Bethesda should have been able to make a single player version of star citizens though. Has the money, has the people and also had the time. Star citizen has alot of issue because everything must be integrated in a multiplayer universe. I dont believe it would be too difficult for devs with experience to create a proper singleplayer counterpart. But they got lazy with starfield for some reason

But there is just something about logging in, getting out of bed walking to the elevator, taking the tram, retrieving my ship taking the elevator, boarding my ship taking off then leaving the atmosphere and warping in real time to another planet or moon and all that was with zero load screens and for the most part theses days with little or no hiccups.

Star Citizen reflects humaninty having cities. Even though they aren't interactive as much, Starfield boosts at best small villages with a few hundred npc's. Where as Star Citizen makes it feel so immersive you feel like you belong to one of those cities.
Bethesda dropped the ball majorly on this one. The United Colonies should have been one mega city planet. Rather it's a small outpost with luxurious detail that offers citizenship to people who serve after 3 years. What a freaking joke from RPG immersion!

I am playing Starfield and I can see why. It is just a run of the mill Bethesda game with loading screens all over, glitches and basic Bethesda quest. I wanted to like Star Citizen. I really did. However, the game is sooooo boring once the initial "wow" factor wears off (within the first couple of days). There's just a general lack of content that makes the game feel lifeless. The same is true of No Man's Sky. Yet, STARFIELD, on the other hand, feels like it is full of things to do from the moment you begin playing it. Yes, there are some things missing that I would have liked. However, it's incredibly addictive and never is it truly boring. I played SKYRIM at least five times. I've completed the main mission and all of the side quests. Yet, I feel like I discover something new with each new playthrough. The same seems to be true of STARFIELD. That's the quintessential basis for a fantastic RPG. More than visuals, limitations or simulation, it's just inviting you to become a part of that world. That is what STARFIELD does for me. I think that I will be able to play through this game at least five times -- and all five times will be different and interesting.

Now I've been married for 5 years with a kid and another on the way and about 6 months ago I caved and bought a game package and have been hooked consistently ever since. I bought dual sticks and 3 32in curved monitors specifically for that game. Even made some pirate friends and goof around with them weekly. I let the negativity surrounding the game prevent me from having this much fun for years and while I don't necessarily regret waiting this long (ive played a lot of other good games and met cool people in the meantime) I definitely wish I had started playing earlier.

Finally a comparison video, overall the game directions are different but i want to see different approaches to space game problems. Also good to compare hows things would work in a single player setting (starfield) and multiplayer setting (star citizen).
Quests for example, bethesda quests can range from simple foraging to deep story missions, fully voiced but they are basically curated and on rails. Star citizens quest approach are pretty barebones, but their general directions allows for player interaction. For example, I can interrupt opposing players if I happen to stumble upon their ship, and vice versa. It turns a regular retrieval mission into a fps match. I know many are not a fan of that kind of gameplay, many want to be just left alone. So theres starfield for that. Of course, we want all that both games provide in 1 game, but shit takes time 😂😂😂😂

The main difference with how Star Citizen handles quests is they are sandbox quests, not RPG quests, not story quests.
You yourself have to create your own fun. You yourself have to make the story. You are the adventurer, not your character.
Star Citizen's quests are not (within developmental reason) "bare bones", they're sandbox quests.
e.g. Your character is a pirate who freights illegal commodities for shady people in order to save for their own ship to
ambush others as they go about their own jobs. 'Cause they grew up in that high-risk illegal environment.
But, you made that story up. Not the game. You had that freedom. The game didn't tell you what you can be.
Star Citizen gives you the tools to play how you want to play. Playing starfield makes you a tool.

  • @mauryhatcher
    @mauryhatcher 11 месяцев назад

Good video, but a big miss right off the bat for people who don't know: Star Citizen's ships are fully present in the continuous, seamless instance you play in, with no loading screens anywhere. So, when you are walking around inside one and experiencing its features you are in the exact same instance (for now, as Server Meshing is not online yet) as a player walking around in a weapons store on another planet in that same solar system 40 million km away. In contrast, Starfield has a loading screen for everything, even entering some shops in the same section of a small city area; when a Player "load screens" into their ship, the game engine is loading a new instance, a new map essentially, for the interior, that _was not there at all_ when the Player was walking up to the ship to enter it. Star Citizen's ships all have to have everything about them fully loaded in the game world continuously including all their internal spaces and features, since there's no loading screens for entering and exiting them; their internal components (that _do_ function in the ships' system-of-systems designs) have to be "present" and performing their functions "live" too, since they are removable and swappable in-game using hand-held tractor-beams, and the replaced component will provide its "features" to the ship's systems immediately upon power-up. Then, coupling that with the fact that every ship and vehicle in Star Citizen will let you spawn them, board them, interact with them, lift them off, fly around the full-modeled planet's atmosphere and up into space, quantum-travel to another planet / moon / space station and go all the way down to landing in a city or by a river or on a mountain or whatever, with *no* loading screens the entire time, and the level of difference in the technology used to create ships between these two games becomes apparent.

There is a deeper conversation between the immersion of both games. Each one taking an extreme approach. I can start my starfield game, fast travel to my ship then jump to a whole new star system and blow up some pirates in 5 minutes. If something goes wrong I literally quick load back to when I started the fight and try again
But for star citizen, I will wake up in my starting pod and take 15 minutes just to get to my ship, then another 10-15 minutes getting ready to head out on a mission then another 10-15 minutes getting to my destination.
If the game crashes, if YOU crash, or if you are simply beaten not only do you lose everything but the 45ish minutes of just getting back in the game restart.

Thank you so much for this video. I believe it could've been longer though. You still managed to cover alot and not just downplay starfield. Most just trash starfield when comparing it to other games without covering everything other than landing/taking off. Both games and NMS are all great yet they all have flaws. To see someone not being biased is quite refreshing. Thanks

There's one thing that kind of got glosed over in ships, and I think it's a really big factor between the two games. In starfield, you can spend your time customizing your ship and placing down little doodads here and there in filling out armor stands and what not. But the moment you change your active ship, all of that customization gets shoved into the cargo bay. By contrast, in Star Citizen, if you drink a lux energy drink and toss it on the floor of your cockpit and then store your ship, it's going to be in that ship until you decide to pick it up off the floor. What, you like living like a pig? Clean up your room! As buggy as it is, Star Citizen takes a huge win in inventory management and just remembering where you put things down.

    • @peggymoexd
      @peggymoexd Год назад +7

@@samharold69 its just another factor towards immersion. As many have said, comparing the two really isnt fair, as they are two very different types of games. But because they're both set in space I suppose it had to be done. Starfield is definitely just a single-player, story driven rpg thats set in space and they did it well. Star Citizen is a multiplayer space simulator. When you play a sim you value immersion over most things, and being able to clutter your ship with the option to clean it up weeks later contributes to that. Personally its neither a pro or a con for either game. Starfield wasn't going for the type of immersion that SC aims for, and if you go into the game with that understanding, its much easier to enjoy the game how its intended to be enjoyed.
EDIT: but also with the bugs in SC I'd love to see someone keep the same ship long enough to actually be able to clutter it considering just landing the wrong way can blow you up, resetting everything inside of it.

And like it or not SC fans are paying very close attention to Starfield. So who cares what the game developers “intent” was. The only thing that makes the comparison silly is one of the games is an alpha buggy shitshow that’s barely a game yet.

They are both based in space and planetside but there is where the comparison stops. Some observations below.
    Starfield vs Star Citizen
    Released | Alpha playable
Single player only | Single (arena) & muliplayer PU/PTU
    Play style Arcade | Realistic
Planets are levels | Fully rendered planets
    Container persistance Yes | Yes
    Enviroment persistance No | Yes
The rest was flushed out by the creator and covered most of the points. Still hard to really say they are in the same categories.

I think you can boil it down to Starfield is more accessible while Star Citizen is overall a deeper game. Starfield works if you want less of a curve and more narrative elements, Star Citizen works if you want a hardcore space sim. I definitely find Starfield more fun at the moment due to the accessibility, but Star Citizen is more stunning and down the road, looks like the more appealing game as they continue to add onto it and stabilize it.

All the other comparisons were fair, only one I contend with is the armor.
While armor having an actual function is neat and all, at the end of the day, players want to look a certain way and not be punished for it.
This has always been the case with every MMO ever and is why most MMOs either ship with a transmog system, or add one some time later down the line.
So Starfield having armor that is functional because it gives stats, means very little to a lot of people when what they really want is to look good. Which is evident by mods, hasn't even been a month and armor mods are already popping up everywhere. No one wants to be forced to wear a bucket because it has the best head defense when they could instead wear a cyberpunk, minotaur skull helmet that just looks cool.
Though to clarify, Star Citizen armor DOES offer stats. There is heavy and light armor in the game. Heavy makes you slower but offers more carrying capacity and armor, while light is obviously the opposite.

but starfield made me try star citizen and i loved the game from the start and i just love it more the more i find out each day. Starfield i was bored f4om the beginning, at a point i spend most of the time ship bulding because i was just not interested in the rest of the game.. i mean it is only my personal opinion but starfield is a big game to draw tons of money.. star citizen is the dream of a man who dreams big, aure he got a lot of critique for it, but there is stuff in the game a big developer studio just does not do anymore these days.. many say star citizen is a scam, i think the other way

I vastly prefer single player RPG experiences. If all you want to do is fly around a few planets with your buddies and enjoy some PvP, then more power to ya with SC. But for me, that will never compare to games like Cyberpunk or Starfield. It's also worth noting that Bethesda has by far the largest modding community in all of gaming. Give Starfield like a year or two and you will be flying around planets in an X-Wing shooting at giant mechs.

As someone who plays Star Citizen every day, who's favorite game(s) for over a decade were the Mass Effect trilogy, spent hundreds of hours in No Man's Sky, played Eve for a spell, etc, its a great time to be a space loving gamer. I do think the comparison between Starfield and Cyberpunk (probably my 2nd favorite genre) is much more fair rather than against Star Citizen, but someone had to do it. Honestly I think I enjoyed Cyberpunk more than Starfield especially on my more recent playthrough with a mod collection installed. Starfield's downfall for me was the lack of iMmErSiOn from the load screens and not being able to fly when I please. I got over it, and I did love the game a lot when I played through (I did all faction quests, got all powers, romanced, numerous side activities, made outposts/ships, and played through a good chunk of NG+) but I'm already back on the PTU of Star Citizen, and probably going to play through cyberpunk again before Phantom Liberty drops.
I am not upset with any of these games and only hope to continue to get more dystopian/futuristic/space games pretty please! Keep em comin!

so it turns out in theory you could go all the way around the planet in SF, what is actually holding it back is the way they set the render area, where SC follows the player SF is locked to the ship. This was likely done to keep ram consumption down so that the Xbox could play it. its only a matter of time before someone figure it out. That also might mean that in atmospheric flight is possible but we won't know until someone mods it to do so.

But overall playing Starfield made me revisit and appreciate Star Citizen even more and get back into it.

Star Citizen you have ships that can do every type of game loop, ships the Mine, Race, Salvage, Cargo Hauling, Fighters, and even more out and still coming, can also fly the ship... not just watch a cut scene of it auto flying away. Starfield might have ship building but it is the most pointless ship system ever built in a space game, just a customizable door to watch your load scene with that is all. Never will you use your ship for anythingnmore than kill a couple ships in a tiny area of space before you have to load screen travel to your next area.
