Chris I still have my old headlining board I will touch base with you to get it to you, Do you still have the vandenplas seats I would be interested in buying them from you for my 2600 Series 2 SD1 vandenplas, Don’t sell it mate you will miss it and the car is testament to all your hard work it looks amazing and sounds amazing to, If you do sell though give me a shout as I’m currently looking for a V8 SD1 👍
I remember when my Dads one used to misfire it was always the Electronic Ignition module. Replacing that always made it run nice again, but he went through a few from what i remember.
Converting it to EFI means you not only need to have the plenum! You need to have the correct wiring loom, the correct CDI etc. If you got it, it is more or less straight forward. Did it a couple of years ago with an early Swiss Vitesse that was on carbs from the factory!. First attempt to start: she fired up with no issues! I love ther SD1 for it´s design and the V8 engine. Still so elegant and timeless. My Vitesses never ever gave trouble to me. Very simple and reliable.
I’ve got one (and three for spare parts 😅). It was the sd turbo (the rather rare diesel version). I loved and hated it ... but ever since it rusted beyond normal repair I feel sorry that I’m driving a problemless Volvo. It was a thing of beauty that British Leyland and the (sorry to say it) workers/builders constructed without any knowledge and care 🤮. So please keep it and enjoy 🤩.
Not watched your other SD1 videos yet but it seems like you have done quite a bit of work to this one and it does look and sound great, for my two pennies worth, if there's something even better that you need the money for then you could let it go otherwise, selfishly, it would be cool to see you carry on working on it and finishing it PLUS TWIN PLENUM!!! 😄
My Father had 2 3.5 v8s from 77 through to 83 and ended up buying a 2.6 car at auction for £600 in the late 90s as my mother needed a car - it was gold in great condition and had only done 48k - he got it home and she went mental so he gave it to me - I was having big car issues at the time so it was a god send and I loved it. They are truly fantastic cars if you can forgive the odd gremlin (like boot leaks, rust and poor fuel economy by modern standards). I'd keep it - you've done all the hard work getting into such great condition
sounds amazing, wanted one since a teenager but by the time I passed my test they were all falling to bits. so its great to see the survivors being reserected, thanks for the V8 tunes bud 😁
Thanks great video, brings back a lot of memories of being in one with my Dad in the 80's. His was silver with the Vitesse graphics on the lower part of the back doors.
Lovely car mate and it sound like you have made the decision to keep it with all the things you want to do. it was good when you tried to explain the poor MPG on it running rough and not on the fact you were booting it everywhere in second gear......
These already ARE worth a decent amount aren't they? The Twin Plenum was rare as rocking horse shite even back in the day and must only have gotten even rarer since.
My absolute dream car in my teens/early twenties before the Hot Hatch bug bit me (i wouldnt ever have afforded to run one of these as i used to cruise the streets of Essex burning through whole tanks of fuel in a night haha!) I ended up with a Astra GTE 16 valve so very similar performance (136mph top speed, 60mph in around 7 seconds) but in a much smaller more economical package. But an SD1 would STILL have a place in my dream car garage when i win the lottery haha!
Chris - might be worth talking to James (Nitrosilvia on RUclips) who specialises in Rover/SD1 rebuilds. He may have a spare or be able to point you in the right direction for a headlining
I had two of these one was the 3.5 V8 SE GOLD IN COLOUR WITH a brown vinyl roof the second one was the 3.5V8 Vitesse 190 BHP fuel injection in Westminster blue with black leather mid 1980s fantastic cars can’t beat the V8 I’m driving an BMW E39 540 V8 just now
How about finish the few bits off that you think are critical, then raffle it ? I’m sure there’s loads of people that would love the chance of owning it (me included), and on the plus side , it would generate more interest in the excellent channel .
Keep it, they're only getting scarcer. I've finally bitten the bullet and am fitting new suspension (including all control arms front and rear), new calipers, discs, pads etc., new cambelt, waterpump, thermostsat, idler pulleys, all four handbrake cables and a full engine and transmission service on my Audi S8 D2. It is costing an absolute fortune but like your Rover the end result will be worth it. You would really, really miss it if you sold it no matter what else you've got in the garage.
Is it a Holley or Carter 4 Barrel Carb?. Sounds like the secondary jets might be dirty, or a mixture issue. Problem was when folk stuck a 4 Barrel on the SD1, a lot of the time they didn't jet them properly to the engine. Most of the time this results in the engine running too rich.
cause we live in Scotland . Sell it . The weather will kill them if they are sitting about outside .. It looks minted so you should get a classic car buyer paying a mad price for it .. Either that or ask the car museum to hold them for you ?
Get rid. Sd1 was always a dog of a car, looked nice but that was about all. Even the 3500 wasn't that good and was over hype. My dad brought a brand new 3500 just as the new 800 came out. Only had it 18 months chopped it in for a 3.0ltr 24v Senator
Keep the car it's a beauty 💘 you will miss her when she is gone 😢

Yeah thats one thing that i havent changed on it, think the heat got to them,

My uncle turned up in exactly one of those back in 1986.. At 14 blew me away. Loved it. I still love them now. Keep it.
they are lovely in black to be fair

Definitely keep it. Beautiful looking car. Finish doing it up and then enjoy it.
Thanks! Will do!

Keep! Be worth a lot more with the TP efi installed if you do decide to sell later. Always had a soft spot for the SD1, especially the V8 S.
Yeah maybe do that over winter
Simply fantastic! The interior won’t be too much trouble.😊
Had one of these years ago ,it was a 1983 model in targa red, wish I still had it, your video brought back so many memories, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
My Father had 2 3.5 v8s from 77 through to 83 and ended up buying a 2.6 car at auction for £600 in the late 90s as my mother needed a car - it was gold in great condition and had only done 48k - he got it home and she went mental so he gave it to me - I was having big car issues at the time so it was a god send and I loved it. That would have been great getting that 2.6 back then!
sounds amazing, wanted one since a teenager but by the time I passed my test they were all falling to bits. so its great to see the survivors being reserected, thanks for the V8 tunes bud 😁
Yeah i remember seeing them all rotting in the scrappies in late 90s too
Thanks great video, brings back a lot of memories of being in one with my Dad in the 80's. His was silver with the Vitesse graphics on the lower part of the back doors.
cool, i had toyed with putting the graphics on it, but not sure they went well with blue.
Keep it buddy, you will miss that lovely V8 tone!
Well i guess we will see!
Lovely car mate and it sound like you have made the decision to keep it with all the things you want to do.
it was good when you tried to explain the poor MPG on it running rough and not on the fact you were booting it everywhere in second gear......
Haha yeah that was the man maths lol
keep it, that car will be worth a lot of money as the years go by
fingers crossed
These already ARE worth a decent amount aren't they? The Twin Plenum was rare as rocking horse shite even back in the day and must only have gotten even rarer since.
These remaining 80s cars look amazingly new for about 38 years old!
Yeah totally agree!
Keep it. There can't be many left. Oil pressure looks good but it's running rich.
Yeah turned out to be carb in the end!
My absolute dream car in my teens/early twenties before the Hot Hatch bug bit me (i wouldnt ever have afforded to run one of these as i used to cruise the streets of Essex burning through whole tanks of fuel in a night haha!) Great cars 😊
cheers mate

Can I get a twin plenum throttle body?
I had two of these one was the 3.5 V8 SE GOLD IN COLOUR WITH a brown vinyl roof the second one was the 3.5V8 Vitesse 190 BHP fuel injection in Westminster blue with black leather mid 1980s fantastic cars can’t beat the V8 I’m driving an BMW E39 540 V8 just now
the v8 manual is lovley to drive, i had 2 and ran them over 10 years. only minor repars needed too
Love SD1's. Its a smart looking car.
Yeah classic design!
Keep it
How about finish the few bits off that you think are critical, then raffle it ? I’m sure there’s loads of people that would love the chance of owning it (me included), and on the plus side , it would generate more interest in the excellent channel .
If you sell it you will regret it and you won't find another.
Keep it, having a car that sounds that good is worth keeping for the sound alone.
Keep.
Next, please!

There is only 3 in north America! And I have a sea can full of parts! Windscreen/ Hood/ rims / complete interior!!
Rare car over there then , good work collecting all the parts

The answer is in the question. Seems ok under load and doesn't like idling, not sure I would have noticed LoL. Get it sorted and what a motor..

I would love to see it finished because so far it looks really good BUT it's yours and only you can know. I enjoy all the content. THANK YOU

Keep it, they're only getting scarcer.

edelbrock500 mate - yeah check out the other vid, its was full of crud !
Lovely car 👌😍
cheers mate!
If the timing and ignition are in good order - and the carb - it could be a worn camshaft.
Turned out to be the carb in the end
Car looks so good, especially by todays standard.
Wee boy sleeping in the back 😂
Haha yeah i know. Would sleep anywhere lol
I had the SD1 van den Plas, sky blue, straight 6, 2.6ltr engine and it flew.
