I was at this game. I got a ticket from the AD of the Westland, Michigan high schools. We sat about 14 rows behind the Michigan bench on the 35 yard line or so. We had to cover up our MSU gear at will call. That was a great game and there is nothing better than attending an MSU vs Michigan game in Ann Arbor when MSU wins.
EDIT: At half-time Sean McDonough read from the rule book that an airborne player hitting the pylon is out of bounds. 34:40 Almost 15 years later and I am still puzzled why this was considered a TD. The purpose of the pylon is just to mark the corners of the endzone and hitting it when running with the ball merely helps the officials know if the ball got to the goal line inbounds. They explain the ruling later in the game, but it still doesn't make sense. They said "the pylon is part of the end zone and he had possession of the ball when hitting the pylon." So why not just line the entire end zone with pylons? One does only the corner of the endzone have a magic post that counts as part of the endzone? If he had feet on the ground in bounds with possession of the ball and then kicked the pylon, it would make sense, but he gained possession of the ball in the air, his foot hits the pylon without touching the ground, and then his foot hits out of bounds. So if his foot had gone behind the pylon and out of bounds it would have been incomplete pass. I always understood that even if you hit the pylon you have to have established possession of the ball on the ground first for it to be a score. It's like that one tiny part of the end zone is extended up in the air 12 inches. Weird.
The rule is kind of stupid though, if a player is running, extends the ball, and hits the pylon with the ball it's a touchdown. Why is that not part of "out of bounds"?😊
@@Tigersfan829 Simple answer is that your example would be a TD since the BALL crossed the goal line. But for Minor's catch the ball never crossed the goal line and his foot hit the pylon then his other foot was out of bounds.
Ring of Fire. Ringer was such an explosive back. So many huge runs. Hoyer didn't have much to throw to so Dantonio relied on Ringer a lot. I was surprised Ringer didn't do much in the NFL.
@@DonRamiro1 They were youngins when Hoyer was a Senior and were better later. Hoyer did well with Thomas, that was about all he had. Cousins had the good receivers for sure, think too of KMart.
Chris Spielman should work for the Detroit Lions! 51:26 "He's one of the best kickers in the country, made a school record 15 in a row..." Well, that clinches it, he's missing this FG.
Was there ever an explanation given for Michigan’s first touchdown? I’m genuinely curious if all the receiver needs to do is touch the pylon with their foot for it to be a completed catch and touchdown…

i was at that game. Glad MSU got the program back on track starting in 2008
They fell off the cliff starting in 2016

I love your videos, YT, but BJ Cunningham, Mark Dell, and Charlie Gantt were not in the "not much to throw to" category.

Just heard the comments after halftime. Wow, that’s one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen…
The explanation is the replay officials blew the call completely.
Supposedly, the replay official was in the tank for Michigan.

It's not too hard to beat a rich rod football team. MSU wasn't better, Mich was just that bad under RR as well as hoke
as usual Michigan only plays well for 2.5 quarters then gets beat lol
