THIS is the moment, where I, as a 30yo non-professional musician, feel so IMPRESSED by a "quick one-take" of a 16yo that I'm actually DEPRESSED, because I probably won't ever get to this kind of skill
You could do it! Just piece by piece, very slow and building up tempo over time. I don’t want to downgrade this solo because it’s BRILLIANT and i love it! But i have to say that there are much more difficult pieces of music around compared to this solo. Just look at a few sheets of Liszt or Sergej Rachmaninov.... and also those are playable if you put in the time, lots and lots of time 😂
First off, I cannot begin to explain how fantastically this was executed, both technically and musically! Thank you for this :) Secondly, I was wondering if you have a transcription for this, as I have not found something that sounds as correct and well made as this. I'm a 15 year old piano player interested in jazz, and this would really help me a lot. Nonetheless, phenomenal performance!
Great playing, great tone! Did you start with a preset on the Minilogue and work your way around to there? I've got a Minilogue and am slowly puzzling it out
I made the patch from scratch. It's a really easy one to make. Just a saw wave with low cutoff, a bit of resonance, increase attack and release to around 20% to remove the click that the Minologue produces. Just need to use 1 VCO for it and I don't exactly remember the other settings. That should get you mostly there though. It's mainly just a basic low cutoff saw lead and turning up the resonance knob will give it the more nasal sound. Hope it helps! Thanks a lot by the way.
Jesus Christ! Do you think you'd be able to help me with knowing what notes to bend? I'm a grade 8 keyboardist and I fancy buying a synth because I also play guitar and I like the blend of the two instruments in synth because you can bend notes and use a modulation wheel. any runs and licks you love?
Hey! You can bend any notes you want, I usually have my joystick/pitch wheel to bend 2 semitones up and 12 semitones down. This particular video isn't a great example for pitch bending because it's quite a modal and chromatic solo. It's always easier to figure out pitch bending in a basic key like A minor, D minor and so. Just play around and bending up from the 4th to the 5th is always cool (sorta bluesy). That's probably all I can say on a RUclips comment haha.
Your playing is superb one of it's kind Close to the original. However the downside is that corey used both hands for the second part of his solo. Can you do that also? Awesome
I can only improvise in blues scales, how tf can I learn this kind of thing, like other jazz keys in it, that sound kind of dissonant (I can't read music)
You can learn any jazz solo you like by ear as well. Just slow it down and learn it note by note by just listening. This will also train your ears to just pick up music by hearing it as you'll get more used to learning and playing by ear. And anyway, sheet music is really useful and can speed things up dramatically when learning a new song. So it'll definitely help you if you learn at least the basics of reading sheet music.
@@rohankeyboardist well I do play by ear, and if I hear a song I can just play it straight off, but this is a little different aha. But whenever I jazz improv I only know the blues scale in each key. But when I listen to jazz there are so many other keys people improv in before coming back to the blues scale, and I don't know what they are or how to learn them.
@@tobybromfield3664 I understand, so you want to get out of just the blues scale. Research the diminished scales which are very common in jazz soloing. Also check out all the different modes and how you can integrate them. That's a great starting point. Diminished scales, and all the modes like Lydian, Mixolydian, Phrygian, etc.
@@rohankeyboardist I've never done any theory, just figured out the blues scales as I went along, so this might be an interesting experience... Yeah like when you hear bebop or any form of jazz, they come to the blues scale for comfort and tension release, but they also follow so many other scales I've never really tried to replicate. I wanna look at the most similar scales to the blues first, ie the ones that aren't as jarring, then gradually get further out into creating tension etc. So I should have a look at diminished ones and the different modes?
@@tobybromfield3664 Diminished have the weirdest fingering and are the hardest to incorporate tastefully in my opinion, sometimes they can just ruin a solo with too much dissonance so maybe approach them later. So minor and major keys are also modes which have a cooler name as Aeolian (minor) and Ionian (major). They are part of the 7 modes in total and checking out the others will be a really big improvement to your playing. Just like each note for example C, has a major and minor scale, it also has all the other modes too. So besides the C major and minor scales, there are the C Locrian, Dorian, Phyrigian etc scales. Same with each key. You can literally just search up E Phrygian for example, learn the notes and fingering for the scale, then just improvise using the notes, maybe over an E Phrygian backing track or even playing chords which suit the scale. Hope that makes sense!
korg should endorse you for this man, incredible work!
Thanks a lot man!

Is incredibly how much I love the minilogue
It's a lovely little synth!

Awesome work bro! I still don't understand how Cory came up with a solo like that. It's cosmic!
Thanks a lot! Yeah it's amazing.

Also, sorry for being so troublesome, but do you have the backing track you used for this? When I learn the solo I'd love to have this playing too :)
Yeah that's what I used, and this isn't a backing track haha.
this is insane. respect

I'd love to know the settings to the sound! Wonder if I can replicate it on my Sub37.

It's just the original song!

Yes please :)

That section is just a bass line on E, C, A, F and there is a turn around luck back to the E from the F.
