I am growing them in hanging baskets along the top of the fence. I don't know what variety, I got them from MI Gardener. I believe its a mix because I have orange and red flowwes. I threw the package away. They are making seeds and I'm saving them for the fall. I didn't know they were a cool weather flower until I watched your videos about them. Your garden is beautiful with all those flowers! Thanks for all the information you share.
The last two years I did good with them but this year only one side germated.mich has been cold.i wonder if I planted them too early. Or will they grow later?
One seed germated
Yes your nasturums are beautiful!
Peach Melba. Window trough. They germinated very well inside.
As soon as she said “they thrive on neglect” I felt that in a spiritual way 😂
Have grew nasturtium for years I've really neglected about 5 somehow this year and they are not thriving....
Lol
Wild nasturtiums suddenly popped up in a patch of very poor soil on our neighbor's front yard that I have literally never seen get watered. They are thriving! The abundant red-orange flowers are just gorgeous! A patch of beauty in an otherwise completely neglected yard.
Nasturtiums are also loaded with lutein which is great for eye health. I grow them for my mom who has Alzheimer's and she loves to look at the beautiful yellow flowers all day. Always thumbs up for your videos Kim!
Hi Mic - great to know, so glad your mom is enjoying them. Thanks for your kind words, appreciate you stopping by to join me on my coffee walk thought the garden!
Anything we can do to help an individual with Alzheimer's is a wonderful thing. My mom suffered with that horrible disease. God bless you for taking care of her and for growing nasturstiums.
Oh luiten.I need that because my eyesight is pretty bad !!
@@sylvestercoffee7212 same...orange and red vegetables can help a little. I'm just dropping off the terms carotenoids, lycopene and vitamin A, here.
It's so nice that your mum enjoys those beautiful flowers. My grandma loved flowers, especially sunflowers!
I’m growing these now!!! They are about 3.5 inches tall and have 3 leaves so far. They are adorable and I love watching them change so fast.
Mine makes it to about two inches and Then Earwigs eat it.
I am, too. One is just shooting out another set of little leaves from the soil. Interesting plant. I hope I get flowers.
The way they grow in abundance and give such a light peppery taste is perfect for anyone who enjoys mixed greens. Nasturtium butter has also become a favorite of mine. Thank you so much for promoting this beautiful and wonderful plant. I'd love some recommendations for increasing the blooming of the flowers - here in Michigan I tend to get mainly the large leaves (not complaining!).
Oh my gosh. I am amazed with those nasturtiums. You have your own backyard super bloom😃 mine are on their way out and yours are taking the heat wonderfully! Beautiful!
You are growing soo much food... that is hot. It is amazing how long it has taken me to see the value of a seed.
Well you just solved the mystery on why I have been struggling to grow nasturtiums which are one of my favorite plants. I live in NC in the mountains and even up here it gets into the 80's pretty soon after spring starts.
I hear that. But those rounded lacy leaves are beautiful too.
They are gorgeous. They grow wild in the coastal groves around here.
My 8 year old is so excited about planting these. She loves to snack in the garden and these will be great.
Going to try growing Nasturtiums for the first time this. I am really adding flowers to attract pollinators this season and heard many good things about Nasturtiums. Thanks for the added information.
I love nasturtiums! The jewel mix you have there gives an amazing color pop to your garden along the wall. I've tried eating them and they are surprisingly very good! Thanks for sharing Kim!
Soo cool, refreshing and tasty flowers
I take coffee walks every morning too!
Rebuilding the cutting garden and figuring where to place my nasturtiums. Hoping spring is slow so I can actually enjoy them. I have a few plants from the greenhouse so I am fingers crossed that also gives me more time
Finally some valuable information .
I always showed indoors and planted in full sun .
No wonder I've had no success with these
The seeds look like chic peas...I love them! I'm growing from seed and trying in a hanging basket!
Grew nasturtiums for the first time this year, completely blown away by how great they turned out, ready to try the other varieties.
Planted some jewel mix and orchid cream - ty for all your help 👍
Stephen, nice job! Way to get it done...Keep me posted and do tag me calikim29 on Instagram if you do the 'Gram. Kim
I live in N. Alabama and keep Nasturtium all summer. I keep them in a micro climate like next to the house and under our awning. They don't get huge here like they did when we lived in Wi, but little bushes about 10 in tall and still quite pretty. Poor soil promotes flowering in these beautiful plants, and rich soil or fertilizer makes them mostly leaves. Just a few morning hours of sun in the south works the best. Also let them get a little dry between waterings. It is a wonderful plant for beginners or people who tend to forget to water...
Great video you did justice to the flowers very positive- I like that 👌
So beautiful and practical (edible!). They fill the garden in such a lovely way. I'm going to try to grow them. Thank you for a lovely video :)
Wow, so much color, so many flowers. Gorgeous!
In tucson, az, I plant nasturtium in October, or November. When the weather drops below 90. It grows all winter!
I love your Nasturtiums! And I love you guys! Thanks for sharing your lovely garden!
First time growing Petunias, Helichrysum, Cosmos, Sweet Williams, third time Sunflowers, Marigold, all in containers. I'll try Nasturtiums next year. They are so beautiful!
Hi Mio - appreciate your kind words - you're going to have tons of pollinators with all those gorgeous flowers! Thanks for hanging out with me in the garden this morning!
I’m in zone 7. Can I plant them late summer early fall sinceI’m just hearing about them, and will they come back next spring? 🙏🏾
Hi Erica, in Zone 7, you can plant nasturtiums in late summer or early fall, but their growth may be a bit slow as the days get shorter and cooler. Nasturtiums thrive in cooler temperatures, but they aren’t frost-tolerant, so once the cold really sets in, they'll likely die back. However, they can reseed themselves, so if you're lucky, you might see some new plants pop up next spring from seeds dropped this fall.
To increase the chances of them returning, you can let the flowers go to seed in the fall, and they might sprout again when conditions are right next year. BONUS... you can collect the seeds and plant them in the spring! Thanks for watching, liking the video and subscribing, please! CaliKim
@@CaliKim29 YESSS! Thank u for your quick response. I’m very happy. Now I can start planting 😃🙏🏾
Thanks for information! I think I will put them in my garden. Alot of benefits!
You bet! Let me know how it goes! CK
I’m doing them right now in a huge bowl to put on my patio. Can’t wait to see these baby’s pop! I have yellow red & white 🤗
I just bought some seeds and I hope they come up. There so pretty ❤️
Wow! Very beautiful flowers😍🏵️🏵️🌹🌷💛❤️
Glad i saw this. first time growing them and the temps hit 100 inthe patio and i had to keep cutting wilted leaves. no matter what i did they where unhappy.
Lovely. I have a spot that needs some color. I'm planting coral peonies. Maybe nasturtium and California poppy would pop behind it.
Stunning! They would make the garden look cheerful even on a gloomy, rainy day.
Yes they really do Jaclyn!! You should give them a try!! Here’s a link to my seed collections, they go fast!! Thanks for stopping by!! calikimgardenandhome.com/seeds/
I'm in NJ and I'm going to plant them this spring, thank you for the video.
Beautiful Kim! 😇
So glad you enjoyed the video definitely consider adding them to your garden, they add such beautiful color and cheer. Thanks for watching!

Just what I needed to know, and as a bonus your enthusiasm reached my happy place > > yes started clapping at the laptop! ✍))
Hi Kim, I grow Nasturtiums, Borage, Zinnias, Marigolds & Wild Flower Mix in my vegetable garden in Northeastern MA. They were so pretty last year and I had high vegetable yields, so thank you for the "bring on the pollinators" advice. Also last year I just put them out there and this year I tried to pay more attention to the placement of them for more of an attractive effect, fingers crossed they will turn out like I am hoping for. Gardening is just starting in my area and my cool weather vegetables are transplanted or sewn but I'm still holding onto the rest of transplants for another couple of weeks before it's warm enough to harden off and transplant. I also tried my own composting this year and was very excited not to have to buy it and it came out so good. Love this time of year and dirty fingernails:) Thank you so much for all your great gardening advice/videos over the last couple of years. I also follow Rustic Garden & Roots and Refuge, good luck on the tomato challenge!!!
I just planted nasturtiums on the 23rd of February. Hopefully I have beautiful growth for Easter Sunday!
I planted some really waiting to see those bright colors 😃
Margot - you'll absolutely love the color pop, keep me posted! Thanks for watching!
You posted this video just in time! I bought a nasturtium because of your previous video.
last year I planted mine too late in the season, and it got destroyed by aphids... this year I started them early may (and surrounded them by marigolds so hopefully that scares away the aphids) and they're already growing like crazy!! I love this flower, great video
I am growing them from seeds I got from you. They are growing wonderfully!
Hi Nellie - thanks so much for ordering my seeds - so glad to hear they are growing well for you! Can't wait for you to experience the color in your garden. Thanks for watching!
Have you ever planted night and day? I bought some seeds and they are just starting to bloom. I love them too!!! Here in Tennessee I can grow them year round in partial shade. I just have to keep their roots cool with mulch. Me and my peeps love munching on them on our walks 🥰
I love to plants these because I see them in your videos. And to be honest I love under 80 degree weather also. Lol.
Hi Kim. Flowers behind you are very pretty. Have a nice day!!! 🌸🌺🌷
Hi I will sow nasturtium tomorrow around my fencing ..thanks for video. I will keep seeds and eat flowers and leaves😊
Great job, Claire! Keep it going! CK
Going to try some after watching your video 🌸🌷🌼
Super! I know they will bring you such joy and cheer as they do me!! Thanks for joining me for my coffee walk through the garden!! Here’s a link to my seed collections or your convenience calikimgardenandhome.com/seeds/

I LOVE watching your videos....and I also got my own garden❤️💚
You can make fake capers from the green seed pods. Delicious in a pasta puttanesca.
I've been watching this channel a week ago i subed so good channel and im watching strawberry and tomatoes
Welcome to our channel, glad you're finding it helpful with your strawberries and tomatoes. Hope you can grow some nasturtiums too, they are just stunning and delicious too! Thanks for watching!
Oh oh, I just planted some and didnt know they are cool weather flowers/plants, it's in the 70-80s right now here in Georgia and will be getting hotter. :( But am happy to hear they are edible since i am wanting to grow edible flowers
Wow, those flowers really look good, even on RUclips. Really vibrant. Sometime the beauty does not come through on RUclips, it did this time.
That color is absolutely vibrant!! Almost looks like you're at a techno rave!
I direct-seeded Nasturtiums in my raised beds (3' high) and in the ground with the cucumbers, last year. None of the ones in the raised beds came up. Five or six struggled in the ground and didn't get much bigger than a small potted plant. They looked ill. Not at all happy (likely due to the heat). This year, one Nasturtiums seed from last year sprouted in the raised bed; it has cascaded over the side of the bed and is creeping along the ground now. The sickly ones in the ground came back (after appearing to have died off???), and they look much happier now...trellis-worthy. In my flower-ignorance, I'd never planted them before and expected they'd likely not get any larger than say a one-gallon pot -- contained, like you see in the nurseries. Imagine my surprise! Note to self: raised beds may not be the best place for Nasturtiums, especially if you intend to use the bed for veggies because they take over the space. Question: Are Nasturtiums supposed to come back every year? How are they to be maintained between seasons - cut back, leave them alone, water, don't water, etc.? Thank you.
They'll die in over 80 degrees - you pull them out, or just leave them. They drop seeds and they come back!
I have 8 hanging baskets of jewel mix. they are gorgeous, but....I"m in the northeast and we just hit over 90 degrees today. I did pretty good with them last year in containers....in the heat....
I have definitely been inspired by your nasturtiums! Planted a whole bunch the other day! Yours are amazing!
Super- they are so stunning and delicious- keep me posted on your progress! Thanks for stopping by!!
I’ve never grown Nasturtiums in Montana. We do get 90 to 100 in late July so my cool growing season might not be long enough. I found seeds at a local hardware store so Im feeling hopeful they will grow. Thanks for the encouragement, I have nothing to loose by trying, only a $1.89 seed package. Well let me confess I bought two seed packages. So $3.79.
Without a doubt they are stunning. What a lovely sight behind you with all the nasturtiums, butternut squash and all the colors from orange-red to white, blue and green and others in between. Even your mug is colorful. That was the second thing I noticed, you mug. It will be 90 degrees here in central SC so I think mine will not bloom, but we will try this fall. Thanks for the lovely video.
Hi Chelin - so glad you enjoy the color as much as I do - the color brings me joy every single time I walk outside. Can't wait for you to plant your own once the weather cools down. Thanks for joining me on my coffee walk, my favorite way to start the day!
I remember planting an Alaskan variety. The leaves had these white markings/stripes.
Yes I have a beautiful bed filled with them
I'm growing Nasturtiums right now, but I know it's gonna pretty hard for them right now because its summer and i live in South Florida. They are kind of dying but they've come such a long way so I'm gonna let them grow. I'm really looking forward to tasting the flower. Also, love your videos very helpful!
I'm currently growing them... I took some seeds from my mothers garden. They are yummy
Even my mom loves plants
Hi, thank you for this video, I am growing Nasturtium first time, already have little plats about 10 cm!
The third leave coming out☺️, very happy about it
Holy heck those butternuts in the back though
Very nice colours I m seen in my garden Chocolate colour is well in insects killer idea come black tiny behind the leaves I m from Birmingham Uk
Those are really nice flowers
They really are stunning and our beautiful addition to any gardening you should definitely give them a try! Thanks for stopping by!
Ive been growing alot of sunflowers, their my favorite, your flowers would look soooooo nice in the background,😁, no problem. Kim ,i love to check out what your upto next!!😍
Cabbage white butterflies seem to like to flock to it.
Hi Kim, your nasturtiums are looking great! I have a couple just getting started now. I just started tomato seeds direct sown into the soil outside for the contest to. I just found out about the competition and it's a little late to direct sow... but well see what happens. I have some beef steaks I grew from seed already planted out but reading the packets didn't impress me...so I found a monster tomato from ferry Morse seeds. Should be fun!
I just put out my April garden tour video...my garden is full and quite overgrown now! I planted tomatoes and peppers around the edges so they will get full sun.
Hello OGNC - you'll love the color pop in the garden just as much as I do! So glad you are entering in the contest, it's going to be a lot of fun - look forward to your entry. You must have started early there in NC if you're garden is already full - good for you! Each year the garden just gets better and better, don't you think? Thanks so much for joining me on my coffee walk this morning!
@@CaliKim29 we had a pretty mild winter this year. So a lot of my stuff overwintered. And the spring was mild to. I probably could have put my peppers and tomatoes out earlier but don't want to take the chance on Frost! Last year we had a super late Frost they killed most of my peaches and two of my fig trees that I had just planted out
Oh wow. I'm going to be planting nasturtiums very soon(the red ones-can't think of the name) and you just taught me a few things that I didn't know. First thing is that they don't like the hot temperatures. That's sad because I live in NC and the summers can be very hot so it sounds like my flowers won't last too long!!😕
I also didn't realize that they were good at cascading so that's pretty cool!!
Thanks for the heads up. I'm actually putting in my flower bed tomorrow so I'm so excited !! I'm starting some seeds too(running a bit behind on that this year because we've been cutting down small trees and clearing out some of our property.)
It's all good though and as usual looking forward to a spring and summer full of flowers and some vegetables too.
I’m growing them indoor now. Thanks for the video
Can you freeze the the leaves like greens and add them to soups or stews?
I loved your video, we grew nasturtiums last year and enjoyed looking at them and eating flowers in salad. I didn’t realize you could eat the leaves though. I’m hoping ours will return soon we live in WA. I’ll definitely grow more.🤗Subscribed.
Wonderful information, very useful.
I started some indoors! Waiting to get them in the garden soon! I will also be direct sowing them this week. Excited to see the beautiful flowers!
Two flower boxes of them going now out here in MA on my porch garden :)
Super- send some pictures would love to see them in the window box!! Thanks for stopping by!
I will! They’re growing like crazy!
I love them so and am always sad when they look how they do today. And when I pull them out, it looks so barren! But every year I have more and more seeds and I literally throw them all over the property and expect new and happy surprises next year.
I’m growing a few types of nasturtiums! I saw them in a few of your past videos and had to get some for myself ☺️ can’t wait to see them bloom
Well, darn. I'm in Texas and I just planted a large amount of these. We just went from 50's to the 80's in the blink of an eye. I'm guessing I probably won't get to see any of them bloom. They're all just a spindly stem with one leaf on the top.
They look nice. Think I will try to grow them in Virginia. Tidewater area.
love nasturtiums !!!! Can you eat the flower without also eating potential seed ?
Beautiful gracias
Thank you for the video! I planted way too late, so once again, next year!
i have for the first time Nasturtiums in my garden i love them .....it will not be the last time thats for sure
That’s super- they are so easy and just stunning!! Thanks for stopping by!!
Oh darn. I planted some yesterday. I’m in Texas. I probably should have started them a lot sooner. Bummer.
Me too, coffee n garden stroll to take stock. I've planted some variety this season. I want to put some around my lemon tree. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
I know Helen, My morning strolls are my garden therapy! Thanks for stopping by!!
I love nasturtiums! I grow them every year. Last year I saved the seeds and grew some instead of buying seeds. I planted some indoors but only one came up. I found I have to soak them for a few hours because the seed is hard then lots grew from the seeds. The leaves taste like watercress and are in the same family.
beautiful indeed.
I grew nasturtiums last year and like you said they reseeded and are now coming up all over my herb garden. My problem is the black aphids that attack them in the warmer part of the season. Do you spray yours for aphids?
I've never grown them before, but started some seedlings indoors this year. Would love to get them planted but in zone 5B and lots of rain here lately. Hopefully soon I'll get them in a container outdoors!
I know you will enjoy Then as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by!
I'm growing yours for a second year in a row, I've been soaking them in water before planting to soften the seed casing. They do well on my deck in the heat of the summer because they get partial sun.
How long do they stay good after you cut them.
Trying to find info on growing them up a wall similar to ivy. Area has not much sun. Is that possible?
How do you get them full? Do they need to be deadheaded?
I don't have any nasturtiums growing; mostly, just sunflowers. My mom did have nasturtiums in the back yard flower bed. They were pretty flowers; but, I don't recall us ever eating any part of the flowers.
Do you really need to nip seed and put in water before puttin in soil?
No, KT, you do not! Kim
Can these be grown in the fall in southern climates?
I adore them , 🤩
Do you get the different colors from one seed?
No, each nasturtium seed will produce flowers in a specific color, typically predetermined by the seed variety. However, if you plant a mix of nasturtium seeds from a multicolored variety pack, you’ll get a variety of colors-usually shades of yellow, orange, red, and sometimes pink or cream-across different plants in the same garden bed or container.
Nasturtiums are easy to grow, and the vibrant mix of colors makes for a beautiful display. Let me know if you’d like tips on caring for them! Hope this helps - and please subscribe if you find my videos/responses helpful! LMK! TY for watching - CaliKim
