I really appreciated the story about how Surya Bhagwan was so self-absorbed that he didn't even realize that his wife had been replaced by a duplicate! I was in a relationship with someone like this, who always needed so much attention on himself that he couldn't even see the people closest to him. As a way of dealing with him, I found myself creating a sort of 'false self' that was one-dimensional, only listening to him, supporting him, and pleasing his ego. I wasn't being authentically my full self, because there was no room for all of me in this relationship! Eventually like Surya's wife, I too had to leave this man who shone so brightly, because my own psychological health was at stake. Sadly, unlike Surya Bhagwan, I don't think he learned anything about himself from this process, or learned to really see the people who were closest to him, and today we are not longer in communication. But at least I am free.
